CHAPTER 63
JAX’S POV
Seeing Skylar tied up on the couch like that made us all instinctively pull our guns and treat this like any other house or building that we enter while going after a target for William.
Skylar had tear streaked cheeks while her eyes were pleading with us to help her.
We had to clear the immediate rooms before we went into the living room.
Lucas and I kept watch while Harry pulled the gag out of Skylar’s mouth and untied her.
“What happened?” Harry asked.
“Your dad showed up. He had a bunch of guys with him. I don’t know what he wants. They tied me up and said they were going to wait for you.” Skylar said as Harry got her free and he pulled her behind his body to protect her.
“Where are they?” I asked.
“In the kitchen.” She said. So Harry stayed in the living room with Skylar while Lucas and I walked towards the kitchen and we cleared the rooms along the way.
“Hello there son.” William said.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Lucas asked through gritted teeth. Even after seeing his father, he didn’t lower his gun.
“Don’t be stupid boy. You know what will happen if you attack me.” William said.
“Skylar has nothing to do with this.” Lucas said.
“Maybe not. But she is a cute little thing. I’m just wondering, how does that work? Do you do her one at a time or all at once?” William asked.
But Lucas raised the gun higher and his finger was on the trigger. He was fully prepared to kill his own father right now.
Three large men then walked into the room behind William. We knew that he wasn’t alone. He’s never alone when he goes on any mission.
We didn’t think this was a mission though. Not in this house.
“Do you really think I don’t have people watching every move you make?” William asked.
“What the hell are you talking about?” I asked. So William nodded and another man walked into the room with a gagged Liam. The same man that we just let go free.
“I knew you wouldn’t be able to kill him. You really need to learn where your loyalties lie son. And it’s not with my brother. It’s with me.” William said.
“You never told me that Liam was the target. You knew that I wouldn’t do that.” Lucas said.
“Yeah. Which is why I had my people follow you. And I came here and waited for you to come back.” William said.
Liam was then forced to his knees and one of William’s henchmen put a gun to the back of Liam’s head and pulled the trigger.
I heard Skylar scream in the other room and Harry was trying to stop her from running in here.
“It wasn’t us. Keep her out of here.” I yelled to Harry.
“You didn’t have to attack her. Or hurt her.” Lucas said. But William just got this weird smile on his face that I had never seen before.
“Lucas. Do you think that I haven’t noticed the difference in you lately. Ever since that girl came into this house you all want out. And that’s never going to happen. I own you. And I have the proof that I own you. So, if you try to leave the organization or do anything to me, she is the one that’s going to pay for it. Believe me. And I’m not going to be gentle either. I’ll make her feel every second that I am with her.” William said.
We both knew that he was serious and this was just an example of him being able to get to Skylar.
I slowly lowered my gun but Lucas refused to. He was so pissed at his father, but they were ready and these henchmen have been trained a lot more than we have been.
William only surrounds himself with the best. So until we get to their level, we can’t do anything about him. Not until we’re sure that we can take out all of his little bastards with him.
“You made your point William. You can leave now.” I said.
“Good. Lucas, we’ll talk real soon.” William said, walking past us and through the living room to leave the house with his men.
Harry and Skylar then came into the room and she saw the dead body on the ground and froze.
I ran over to her and I made her turn around.
“You don’t need to see that.” I said, holding her close from behind as she was facing the other way.
“Who is he?” Skylar asked.
“That’s the man that we went to see tonight. William’s pissed that we let the guy escape.” I explained.
“Take her upstairs. We’ll deal with this.” Lucas said.
So I slowly took Skylar upstairs and I could feel her sobbing just by holding her arms and I took her to her room and she sat on the side of the bed.
“We never wanted you to see anything like that.” I said, sitting next to her.
“Who was that guy?” She asked again.
“That was William’s brother. That’s why Lucas didn’t kill him. So William did it himself.” I explained.
“And William used me to prove that he can get to anyone.” She said.
I looked at the horror on her face and I nodded my head without saying anything.
She started crying a lot more after that and I pulled her close to me and hugged her until she calmed down.
We eventually heard Lucas and Harry leave. They would have been taking the body somewhere to get rid of it and then Skylar panicked when she heard strange voices in the house.
“It’s alright. They’re just the cleaners.” I said.
“Cleaners?” She asked.
“People that come in and clean up a mess that’s been made by a situation like this.” I said. And her eyes grew wider as she was seeing further into our world. A lot further than any of us ever wanted her to see.
I could see the marks around her wrists and ankles and that made me want to go and find William myself right now and take him out. But I went to Skylar’s bathroom and grabbed her first aid kit and brought it back to the bed.
I started fixing the cut on her head but she started sobbing again.
“Everyone dies because of me.” She blurted out.
“What? What are you talking about? That had nothing to do with you. You weren’t responsible for that.” I said.
“Dad killed people to keep me in line. He made me watch.” She said. And I looked at her in horror at her revelation.
What the fuck? Is she actually serious right now?
She always said that we didn’t know what her father was capable of. I think there’s a lot more to her story than we could have ever imagined.
I couldn’t press her for details, but I knew that we needed to get them out of her eventually.
She’s never going to get over that bastard if she doesn’t talk to us about it. Or talk to anyone. It doesn’t have to be us. But she needs to talk to someone.
