CHAPTER 49
As I turned back around to look at the now calm surface of the water, I got this really eerie feeling while being out here.
“What are you doing? We have to get you to a hospital.” Harry said. But I knew that this wasn’t right. We couldn’t leave it like this.
“We can’t leave just yet.” I said.
I was staring at the water, thinking about my father being under there in the car. Thinking about his whole situation. But Jax and Harry looked at me in confusion. They couldn’t understand what I was going on about.
“Are you alright?” Harry asked, holding my arm as I was a little off balance.
“What are you talking about? We have to get you checked out.” Jax said.
“No. I mean, we have to make this look like an accident.” I said.
“It was an accident.” Harry said. But they didn’t understand what I was trying to say.
“Guys. I have to be found by emergency people. An ambulance and police and that shit. They have to take me to the hospital.” I explained. I knew that they didn’t like this, but we had to do something here to make this look like an accident. If the car is ever found then they will know straight away that someone else was in the car because I cut the seatbelt and I broke the window from the inside.
“Jax. You need to call an ambulance but leave before you do. If anyone finds this later on then they are going to ask questions because it’s pretty obvious that someone else was in that car.” I said.
“I’m not leaving you here like this.” Jax said. But I took Harry’s shirt off and gave it back to him and I put my wet shirt back on.
I wasn’t giving them a choice. This could really come back to bite us on the ass one day. And I wasn’t going to give dad the satisfaction of destroying us even after he’s dead. It’s not going to happen.
Harry’s phone started ringing and it was Lucas so he put it on speaker phone.
“What did you find out?” Harry asked.
“You first. Did you find her?” Lucas asked.
“Yeah. She’s here. We found her.” Harry said.
“Hey Lucas.” I said.
“Fuck baby. You really know how to scare the shit out of us.” He said. But I just chuckled. “Alright. I lost the guys that were at the house. But our people did manage to find some stuff that we should discuss in person.” Lucas said.
“Listen, I know that it sucks right now, but I think we should go along with Skylar’s plan. We’ll leave and call an ambulance anonymously and say that we saw a car veering off the road. We’ll give them the location and they can come for her.” Harry said.
Harry was pretty good at persuasion because he finally got Jax to go along with it.
I knew that this was just something else that Jax was going to feel guilty about, but it’s not his fault. He didn’t know that they were going to show up like that.
And it wasn’t his fault that he couldn’t stop them from taking me. My dad made sure that he couldn’t stop them.
“Alright. So I’ll meet you all at the hospital.” I said, handing Harry the dagger. That was something that I did not want to try and explain to the police when they showed up.
Jax looked at me and cupped my face in his hands and he leaned forward and kissed me.
“I am going to spend the rest of my life making up for this.” He whispered.
“No, you’re not. Because you didn’t do anything wrong. This isn’t your fault. Don’t you dare blame yourself. You saved me. Again. In the same lake.” I said and he chuckled.
“We’ll see you soon.” Jax said, kissing me again.
He stepped back and Harry walked over and hugged me.
“Just stay right here. So they know where to find you.” Harry said and then he leaned in for a kiss.
“I’ll be fine. You guys get out of here.” I said.
Harry reluctantly let go of me and they started walking away. Back to their car that they left by the side of the road.
I heard Jax call the ambulance as they were walking away so I knew that they weren’t going to take long.
I stood there for a few minutes watching them before I leaned down and put my hands on my knees and I started taking a couple of deep breaths.
I walked back to the side of the lake and I found a place to sit down but I leaned forward and splashed water on myself first to make it look like I had just come out of the water.
I was staring at the calm surface of the lake in front of me, thinking about my father in the car.
It wasn’t too long when I heard sirens in the distance, gradually getting closer.
I turned to look towards the road but my head was feeling really funny and weird and I started to feel like I was going to be sick.
My eyes started going blurry and then they started going dark.
I fell back on the ground, losing consciousness next to the lake.
