CHAPTER 70

SKYLAR POV

As soon as I got out of the shower, I dried myself off and I walked out to the bedroom.
I was thinking about what I was going to wear because I didn’t have anything very fancy when I saw a box sitting on my bed.
I walked over to it and I slowly lifted the lid off the box and there was a beautiful dress inside of it.
I then opened the bag and there were matching shoes and jewelry to go with the dress.
I stood there staring at it for a moment and I couldn’t believe what I was looking at.
I didn’t belong in something so beautiful. I don’t even know how to do my hair properly and I definitely don’t have any makeup to wear.
I don’t want to embarrass Jax, but he seemed pretty insistent for me to wear it since he snuck in and left it for me.
I hesitated for a moment before I took the dress out of the box and I pressed it up against my body.
It was a simple black floor length satin gown with the capped sleeves sitting right on the edges of my shoulders.
I slipped on the matching shoes and I put on the dangling diamond earrings and necklace to complete the look.
It seemed so simple, but so elegant at the same time.
I had never worn anything like this. I was afraid I was going to ruin it.
I sat at the vanity in my room and I grabbed my phone to watch a youtube tutorial on how to do my hair.
There was nothing I could do about makeup because I don’t own any makeup. But I could do something with my hair.
When I found a style that I liked, I watched the video step by step so I didn’t stuff it up and it took me a couple of tries to get it, but I finally did.
I then stood up and stood back from the mirror so I could look at myself and see how I looked in the outfit.
When I was satisfied that I wasn’t going to look any better than this, I grabbed the clutch and I walked out of my bedroom.
I walked down the hallway to the stairs and that’s when Jax and Lucas came into view.
They both stood at the bottom of the stairs staring at me, causing me to get really embarrassed.
I had never dressed up like this and I was really self conscious about how I looked.
“I don’t own any makeup, so I couldn’t put any on.” I said.
“You don’t need any. You look beautiful without it.” Harry said, walking down the stairs behind me. And I started blushing again.
He walked past me and kissed me on the cheek before he took me by the hand and he looked me up and down.
“Yep. Definitely beautiful.” He said. But I just put my head down so they couldn’t see me getting so embarrassed.
Harry made me lift my head using his hand and he leaned in and kissed me.
“Stop hiding yourself from us. And you better get used to the compliments. Because that’s all you’re going to get around here.” He said.
When Jax and I finally left, he drove us to the center of the city and we stopped out the front of a restaurant that had people lined up down the road.
But he handed his keys to the valet and as soon as we walked up to the door the doorman let us straight in.
The hostess also seemed to know Jax and she took us to a private room at the back of the restaurant. But everyone was staring at me as we were walking through the restaurant.
Jax picked up on my hesitation so he held my hand as we were taken to the back of the restaurant.
I was relieved when we were taken to the private room, so no one was staring at me except for Jax.
The waitress walked over and wouldn’t take her eyes off of him, so he ordered our drinks for us and told her to come back when we decided what we wanted to eat.
“You seem to be pretty popular wherever you go.” I said.
“Am I?” He asked, looking at me.
“Really? You haven’t noticed.” I scoffed.
“Not right now I don’t.”
I felt embarrassed under his intense gaze and I tried to look away, but of course, Jax wouldn’t let me.
They knew that it was an insecurity of mine to have people looking at me like that, and I really was trying to get out of it but it wasn’t something that I could just switch off.
Jax leaned closer to me in the booth that we were sitting in and he placed his finger under my chin to lift my head up and he slowly leaned across and kissed me.
I didn’t back away from him or want him to stop. It was the opposite actually, I felt like I needed him to be closer.
But the waitress walked back into the room and cleared her throat to get our attention.
When Jax leaned back he had a less than impressed look on his face and he turned to look at her with a little malice in her eyes.
Her former flirty look changed to one of intimidation from the way that Jax was looking at her and she fumbled around to pull out her order book and pen.
“Are you ready to order?” She asked, unable to look at Jax anymore.
I smirked at him a little and he grabbed the menu and we both looked at the same one since he was still sitting so close to me.
“I’ll have the steak and what do you want?” Jax asked. So I looked over the menu again.
“The pasta.” I said. So she wrote it down and got out of there quickly.
“Why are you smirking like that?” Jax asked.
“Because you just scared the hell out of our waitress. I hope she doesn’t spit in our food.”
“She won’t. Not if she wants to keep her job. She knows who I am around here.”
He leaned back in for another kiss but another waiter came into the room and poured two glasses of wine for us and irritated Jax again.
But this time I couldn’t help but laugh.
“I’m glad you find this so amusing.” He sighed, leaning back on the chair as if he couldn’t catch a break.
Our meals were delivered pretty quickly and we ate and drank wine and had a really great conversation.
It was actually a really great night out with Jax. And when we left he paid the check and then we walked outside but instead of walking towards his car, he held my hand and we started walking down the road.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Dessert.” He said, letting go of my hand and he put his arm around my waist.
