CHAPTER 90
BENTLEY POV
Starting a new school is always hard. But I knew that this one was going to be brutal. This school has a horrible reputation for cliques and who is more important than others. And the ones that were more important let everyone else know that they were.
I was dreading having to start school here. But I didn’t have a choice. My dad got transferred so mom and I just had to follow. Like we always did.
My first day when I first arrived, everyone made me for the new kid straight away.
Everyone was staring at me. I didn’t know what I did to get so much attention. But I guess these kids have probably been together forever.
I had to look for my English teacher as soon as I got to school so I found the classroom because I heard that his course was extremely hard. Well, not really hard. He just gave out a lot of work to do. And I knew that I would have a lot of catching up to do if I was going to graduate.
I mean, this was my senior year and the last thing I wanted was to flunk out now. I couldn’t do that. Dad would never forgive me if I flunked out and I didn’t get into a good college. Even if it was his fault that we moved so much.
He never thinks anything is his fault. But it’s up to me and mom to make it all work while he’s off wining and dining clients and living the great life.
Who knows how many women he has on the side.
She’s never said it, but I know that my mom thinks the same thing.
She wants out of this marriage, but she’d be completely cut off and when she met dad he made her quit college to get married.
She wouldn’t be able to get a good job or anything. So it’s basically a marriage of convenience now.
When I got to the English classroom the teacher was waiting for me and he seemed alright. He was nice and really helpful. And he gave me the name of a straight A student that would be able to help me.
“Now, you just have to be careful with this girl. She’s been known to get picked out of a crowd.” The teacher said.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well, she is bullied. Relentlessly. The other kids in this school don’t like her for some reason. From what I can tell, she hasn’t done anything to deserve it but she is targeted a lot.” He said.
“If the teachers know about it then why doesn’t anyone stop it?” I asked.
“Because you don’t mess with the kids that bully her. Their parents own most of the city.” He said.
He took me to the classroom door and we looked down the hallway and he pointed her out to me.
She was standing in the hall with three pretty big guys standing around her.
But as soon as I looked at her, I wondered why the hell anyone would want to hurt her.
She’s absolutely beautiful.
“Who are those guys?” I asked.
“Their new transfers as well. I don’t know what they’re doing with Skylar. But that’s her. So, ask her to help. She’ll get you all caught up.” The teacher said.
As soon as I approached Skylar I was really nervous talking to her. Because I had never seen anyone as gorgeous as her before and because these three guys were standing around glaring at me like I was a problem for them or something.
They were really intimidating. Covered in tattoos and how the hell did teenage guys get muscles like that? They barely seemed real. But they were and they were practically breathing down my neck.
Skylar agreed to help me and when we got away from those three, I felt a bit more at ease.
But she got straight down to business. She helped me with the work that I needed to get caught up on and she was really helpful. The teacher was right. But I felt like she was rushing the whole thing.
At lunch I got to the cafeteria and I saw that she was sitting at a table alone with those three guys. And they looked like they were having a pretty in depth conversation.
But looking at how close they were all sitting to her, it really got me wondering about their relationship. I mean, her and three guys and they all looked protective of her but she already told me that she’s not related to any of them. They’re all friends.
I have a feeling that there’s more going on than that.
I was invited to sit with some other kids and they seemed pretty cool and warned me to stay away from a couple of girls called Madison and Grace.
Apparently they were the ones that thought they ruled the school.
So they must be the ones that I’ve heard about.
Every day after that I got really excited when it was time to go to school. Just to see Skylar again.
But I was disappointed every day. Because every day, she arrived with those same guys and they never left her side.
They almost acted like bodyguards or something. It was really strange. And my new friend group would comment on it as well.
Everyone at school was trying to figure out their dynamic, but no one could.
I was finally getting used to the idea that I was never going to get anywhere near Skylar again when I got this weird text message on my phone.
UNKNOWN - If you want Skylar. Meet me at the Western Side of Centennial Park at midnight.
I didn’t know who sent me the message but I didn’t think there would be any harm in going.
When I got there I didn’t see anyone at first. But then I saw a couple of figures come out from behind the toilet building.
When they came into the light, I saw that it was a couple of girls.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“My name is Nancy and this is Alora.” She said.
“What is this all about?” I asked.
“We know that you want Skylar. We want her out of the way. I want Lucas back and Alora wants Harry.” Nancy explained.
“What about Jax? He doesn’t have a girl waiting for him?” I asked.
“He does. She’ll be along when she’s ready. So, do you want in or not?” Nancy asked.
“Of course I do. I hate seeing her with them. Who the hell knows what they’re doing to her.” I said.
“Probably what we want them to be doing to us.” Alora said.
“Yeah. Probably.” I said.
“Alright. Well, let’s get to work then.” Nancy said.
So we stood there and hashed out the plan to get Skylar away from the guys and how Nancy and Alora were going to get in and get their men back.
I was finally going to have Skylar all to myself. That’s all I’ve wanted since the moment I saw her.
