CHAPTER 50
LUCAS POV
Sitting in the hospital I am staring at Skylar who is still unconscious. The doctors are keeping a really close eye on her and everything she did seemed to have worked. But it still kills me to see her like this.
I was pissed when I thought they had left her there alone but it was all her idea. Which I guess made sense. She didn’t want us getting involved.
But earlier in the night. That was a different story.
As soon as I left the guys to go after Skylar, I took off in the other direction and I was chasing after the men in black.
There were cars everywhere and I was watching them go off in different directions.
I couldn’t help but keep thinking back to that chase. I knew that there was something strange about it.
For starters, these men would have had to know who’s house that belonged to. The house we live in, belongs to my father.
So who the hell would have the balls to attack it the way they did. Even if they were being paid by Skylar’s father.
I know he’s scary, but so is mine. And not many people like to go toe to toe with him. But they didn’t seem to care.
Did they just not care or are they more afraid of Skylar’s father? Because if that’s the case then I think Skylar was telling the truth when she would warn us that we didn’t know who we were dealing with when it came to her father.
As I was chasing those men in the car, I was trying to keep up with them but I couldn’t get all of their locations on my phone so I just had to blindly follow them.
That’s when I realized that something was really wrong here.
I was following two different cars down the same street. The others had dispersed in other directions, but these two cars…I don’t think they were together.
They moved differently.
I was trying so hard to remember their every move. It all happened so fast, but I know that they definitely weren’t together.
They were from two different groups.
Even as we were shooting at them from the house and the way they took off. It was strange but I didn’t say anything at the time because we needed to get Skylar back.
One lot of them had several men that had exceptional counter-surveillance skills. I only realized that because they managed to stay out of the way of the cameras and as I was chasing them, this car was taking all the roads that didn’t have cameras set up anywhere. There weren’t even ATMs to catch them driving past.
This guy knew what he was doing and he didn’t want to be seen.
I only knew what he was doing because that’s the same way that I operate with Harry and Jax.
Whenever we go after someone we know exactly where the cameras are and where security alarms are. That’s how we’ve never been caught before.
So this guy was definitely trained in a way that was similar to us.
But the other guy. He seemed like he was just all muscle. He was the second guy that was holding Jax down and beating the crap out of him.
I had already checked the camera feed at home and they are wearing masks, but we got him on the camera so he wasn’t as intelligent as the others.
And they all took off in different cars with men that behaved the same way as them.
I just knew that they were two different teams.
Thinking back to when we were outside of the house and they all started to run back towards their cars, they definitely split off into two groups.
They stayed with the people that they trusted.
But some of them moved with such precision that I could have easily mistaken them for military. Navy seals or something like that.
I was going to look into that. If they used to be Navy seals or in the military then they could be working as mercenaries now.
It happens a lot more than people think.
As soon as I lost them completely I called Harry to check on Skylar and he told me everything.
How she got away from her father and how she managed to escape the car at the bottom of a lake.
I have to say, I was really impressed by what she did. And so grateful that Harry got her that damn dagger.
I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it saved her life. I’m gonna buy her a whole cupboard of knives if that’s what she wants after all of this.
But once some information came through on my phone from our people I had to meet with them straight away.
As soon as I got off the phone with Harry I turned the car around to head towards a meet up spot with them and I just kept wondering what underworld forces in this city are game enough to go up against my father.
Obviously Skylar’s father is, but those men that attacked had to know who they were attacking.
People like that always do their homework. They don’t walk into a situation like that blindly. And they definitely did surveillance on our house.
And they were good. We never once suspected that we were being followed or watched. Which means, they are good at what they do and we might not find out who they are.
As soon as I reached the meet up spot, Harry and Jax were already there.
“We made sure that the ambulance was near the site before we left.” Jax said.
“Good. So she won’t be there for long.” I said.
“No.”
“Who the hell were those assholes helping her father?” Harry asked.
“I’m not sure. Some of them looked like pure muscle and some of them looked like ex-military. We’ve got a lot of work to do to find out. I know that her father is probably taken care of now, but I’m not letting these bastards get away with what they did.” I said.
“None of us are.” Jax said.
“How did Skylar look when you left?”
“Well, she was pretty shaken up and exhausted. She drove the car into a lake and then had to fight her way out of the car. It wouldn’t have been easy.” Harry explained.
“She’s alive. That’s all that matters.” Jax said.
“Well, I followed a couple of the cars for a while and I came to realize something. I think her father has someone else working with him.” I explained.
“You think someone else hired those guys?” Harry asked.
“Yeah. I think there’s someone else behind this.”
“I’ve been thinking about it as well. One thing that’s been stuck in my mind is that there hasn’t been any news from Grace since our last warning.” Jax said.
“Her dad has a lot of money.” Harry said.
“But do you really think she’s capable of this?” I asked.
“No. But her dad might be. And we all know that she’s dad’s little princess. He wouldn’t have liked us sending our friend in to warn her about staying away from us. And Skylar.” Jax said.
He actually made a really good point. We don’t know what the hell Grace and her father are up to lately because she hasn’t been around.
She was pulled out of school to get treatment or some shit like that after we warned her to stay away.
After we called our friend to warn her because we don’t hit women.
This was someone that had a grudge against Skylar and would definitely do something to get back at her. But her best friend Madison was the one that was leading their little pack.
And it was definitely something that we needed to check out. And Madison as well. They were both crazy and I wouldn’t put this past them. Not with their parents connections.
