CHAPTER 29

HARRY’S POV

After seeing that new kid walk off with Skylar the three of us stood there staring for a while. I looked at Jax and Lucas’ faces only to see jealousy seeping from them.
We slowly followed towards the same classroom and Skylar was sitting in her usual seat and Bentley was sitting next to her while she was explaining the assignment that we were in the middle of doing for history.
I couldn’t help but feel the same way as the others. I just wasn’t going to show it. I was watching them, but I was trying not to say anything to them.
I took a deep breath and stayed as calm as possible and Jax, who was definitely pissed, managed to keep his emotions in check as well. But we were going to have a hard time of keeping Lucas under control. We didn’t want to upset Skylar or turn her off because of our temper. Not after what she’s been through. And after the nightmare that she had last night. She’s already in a fragile state.
Skylar didn’t realize it, but she was the one that managed to keep us calm. Like a sedative just by being around us. I don’t know how she did it, but she did. And now Lucas was swinging back and forth and I could tell that he was going to make a big deal out of this.
We walked closer into the room and Bentley leaned right over near Skylar to see what she was looking at in the textbook and I had to stop where I cracked my neck and tried to stay calm. No matter how much anger and jealousy I was feeling right now.
We sat in the chairs surrounding them and Bentley looked up to see that it was us and he looked at all of us strangely but Skylar didn’t change at all. She was really showing him what he needed to do for the assignment.
“Are these guys always around you?” Bentley whispered to Skylar, but we were too close and could still hear him.
“Yeah. You got a problem with that?” Lucas asked, glaring at him. Skylar looked up at him in shock and I elbowed him in the ribs, warning him to knock it off.
He looked back at me, but the look on his face gave away every emotion that he was feeling.
Skylar turned around and looked at myself and then Jax and Jax wasn’t looking at her either. Because she would have seen the same look on his face.
I just stared at her with the same sullen look that I usually had on my face. Trying to let her think that there was nothing wrong.
I wasn’t sure if it was working though. She was looking at me like she was really concerned about something and she looked back at Bentley who was still leaning over near her while he was looking in her text book, so she placed the book on his desk so he could read it easier.
That was a really long morning for us and at lunch we went to our usual table but none of us were eating or talking or anything. We were just sitting there waiting for the time to pass by.
Skylar walked into the room and she sat at the table with us and she didn’t say anything either. She just looked at all of us. Obviously knowing that there was something wrong.
“Where’s your new bestie?” Lucas snapped.
“What? What are you talking about?” Skylar asked, confused.
“You spent all morning talking to him.” Lucas said. But this time, I didn’t stop him from talking.
“Listen, I’m sorry about this morning. The car ride, everything. I just needed to sort out my own thoughts. And as for Bentley, I’m only helping him with this assignment because the teacher told him to ask me. I didn’t think I could say no.” She explained.
“We didn’t think the teacher even knew who you were.” Jax said.
“He probably doesn’t. He knows my name and the A that I get on each paper I hand in. That would be about it. I’ve never actually spoken to the teacher before.” I said.
“So, he just pulled your name out of thin air?” Lucas asked. And Skylar nodded. Assuming that’s exactly what the teacher had done.
I can’t believe that she was that gullible. There’s no way the teacher would direct a new student to her without knowing who she was. And she was so quiet in class, she never raised her hand, she never said a word, none of the teachers actually know her. They just know the name. And that’s only because she aces all of her exams and assignments that they give her.
“Didn’t you see the way he was leaning all over you in class this morning? That wasn’t normal.” Jax spat at her. And she pulled back a little at his sudden outburst.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize.” She said.
No matter how much she apologized, she wasn’t making me feel any better. She wasn’t making my anger or jealousy go away either.
I know that she doesn’t want to think that she belongs to us, but she does.
Not in a bad way, but in our way. She lives with us. We protect her. We might be a bit possessive of her, but that’s because we don’t want anything to happen to her. Ever since that day we saved her from her father’s house, we’ve all felt that way about her.
I couldn’t stand being here anymore. I needed to get out before I said something that would scare her off completely.
She didn’t know how I felt about her. She only knew that I was letting her live with us. And I wasn’t sure what the hell to do about it now. So I got up from the table without saying anything and I left the cafeteria. I had to get out and get some fresh air.
