CHAPTER 76

FLASHBACK - HARRY POV - TWO YEARS AGO

William and Lucas were doing everything they could to cheer me up and get over the loss of Lizzy. William even offered to take me out to meet some new girls, but I just couldn’t do it. I felt like my heart had been ripped from my chest and there was nothing that I could do about it. I didn’t want to do anything about it.
I’d been driving around the city all day trying to figure out what to do. I knew that I couldn’t survive for much longer here without her, especially not after watching what they did to her. How much she suffered and I wasn’t able to stop them.
I looked up at the cliff face that looked down at the city. A place that I’d been meaning to check out for a while now. I was going to take Lizzy up there, but we never made it.
So I drove out of the city and I started up the steep climb to the lookout and I finally stopped in the car park and I stared out into the forest.
I opened the door and I got out of my car slowly and I stood there staring into the forest.
I looked around and there was no one else here so I knew that I wouldn’t get any trouble from anyone else.
I started walking into the forest and I found my way down the trail to the look out but it was a popular tourist attraction. I didn’t want to do anything here and I saw a different clearing off to the side.
I walked through the woods and I managed to find my way to that clearing. It was closed in by huge boulders and it was more out of the way and it was barely seen by the main look out.
I stood there staring out at the city that was all lit up.
People were going about their business. People were out on dates. Teenagers were hanging out with their friends. And I was standing on the edge of a cliff, waiting for the right moment to step off of it and plunge to my death in the forest at the bottom of the cliff.
I took my wallet out and I pulled out a photo of Lizzy and myself smiling at the camera during our last trip to the beach.
We were so happy. We knew that we were going to be together forever.
She was so beautiful. No one is ever going to be able to fill the gap that she’s left in my life. So there’s no point in going on.
Those bastards won. The same bastards that killed my parents. They’ve won. They don’t need to worry about me anymore.
They’re waiting for me to retaliate but I don’t even have the strength to get out of bed each morning, let alone go after them.
I know that I am going to be alone forever and I just wish that I told Lizzy how much I loved her one more time. Just one more time before she died.
I kissed the photo and I put it back into my wallet and back into my jeans.
I was about to take that step forward to fall to my death when suddenly I heard a girl screaming.
It was behind me and it was in the distance a little way.
I could tell that it was coming from back near the road.
I looked down at the cliff again before I heard more noises coming from the road. I heard a car squeal to a stop and the girl screamed again.
So I turned around and I started running back through the forest.
It didn’t take me long to find the trail that I was on and I followed it all the way back to my car.
I looked around and I saw a car in the middle of the road up away from me a bit.
I saw a guy trying to force a girl into a car and she was fighting him with everything she had.
I got in my car and I turned it on and sped up to where they were and I got out and as soon as the guy saw me, he stopped for a moment.
The girl was bleeding on the face and had blood on her clothes and it just reminded me so much of Lizzy and the men that attacked her last time I saw her.
“What the hell are you doing?” I demanded to know.
“It’s nothing. Just a little lovers spat.” The guy said, fighting with the girl.
He had lifted her off the ground and tried to force her into the car.
“Let me go, asshole. He’s not my boyfriend.” She yelled.
“Get in the fucking car Skylar.” The guy demanded. But she kicked him in the shin and she was fighting with everything she had.
I ran over to them and I grabbed a hold of the guy causing him to drop the girl and once she was free she got to her feet and started running down the road.
I punched the guy in the face and slammed his head into the side of his car, knocking him out.
I saw that girl running down the road and I got in the car and I went after her.
When I caught up to her, I opened the door.
“Get in.” I said.
She looked back at the other guy who was laying next to his car and she realized that she was in the middle of nowhere.
She was hesitant at first before she got in the car and I took off down the road.
As soon as we reached the city she was looking around nervously and she pointed to a street corner.
“Just let me out here.” She said.
“I’m not leaving you on a street corner.” I said.
“I’ll be fine. I don’t live too far from here.” She said.
“Absolutely not. I’m taking you to the hospital. You need help.” I said.
But she looked at me with panic in her eyes the second I said that.
I didn’t think a hospital was that scary. But I knew that there was a lot more to her story than I realized.
As soon as I stopped at the first red light the girl opened the car door and jumped out of the car and started running down the road.
I yelled out to her to stop, but she didn’t answer. She just kept running.
When the lights changed, I turned down that street and I tried to find her but she was already gone. I couldn’t see her anywhere. She was just gone.
I knew that she was in a lot of trouble and I wanted to help her. More than anything. But she was gone. She was gone so quickly.
