CHAPTER 120

When I finally snapped out of whatever shock I must have been in, I looked at the clock and I realized I had been sitting on the side of the bed almost all night.

I got changed and I went to the gym and I closed the door behind me so the guys couldn’t hear me.

I started with weight training and then I started working on the punching bags and the more hand to hand sort of stuff that I needed to practice with.

I knew that I would need it now more than ever.

I finished up that morning with cardio and I went to have a shower before I got dressed in some loose fitting clothes.

When I came out of the bathroom, I heard the guys talking downstairs. I knew that they were talking about me, but I didn’t really care.

I walked back into my room and I closed the door and put my dirty clothes in the clothes hamper.

I sat at the desk with my laptop and I connected everything up so I could look at my emails and so I could see everything that I needed to do for my home schooling.

I got stuck into my school work because I knew that it would distract me and keep me busy. I didn’t want to have to think about anything except my school work right now.

But of course, the guys weren’t going to let me get away with that.

I’d been sitting at the desk working for a couple of hours when the door opened and Jax walked in with some food.

He placed it on the desk next to me. I looked at it and kept working.

“I’ll eat soon.” I said.

“You’re gonna starve if you don’t eat. Especially with the amount of exercise you’ve been doing.” He said.

“Well, I gotta do something to take my mind off of things.”

“I know that it was easier thinking he was dead. And Harry is definitely an ass for what he did. But he’s been deliberately keeping himself hidden. Which means he had something planned, Skylar. I think it’s best that we actually see it coming rather than him surprising us.” Jax explained.

“I know. Alright, I know all of that. But when I thought he was dead I wasn’t constantly looking over my shoulder and I was finally getting some sort of normal life. Not that it was really normal. But it was better than I had before.” I said.

“Yeah. I get that. And you think Harry is the one that screwed that up?”

“I don’t know what the hell to think right now. I know that Harry went there to get his own vengeance, and that almost got all of us killed. But then he tells me that it was my father who called the meeting. He was the only one that didn’t arrive in a car so he’s obviously the one that lives there. He’s controlling everyone.” I said.

“And you know all of them. You wrote their names on the photos. Lucas is researching them all now. To find out everything we can.”

“Yeah. I knew he would be.” I said.

“Harry screwed up. And he knows that he screwed up. He won’t be able to live with himself if you don’t talk to him ever again.” Jax said.

“Well, I’m doing my best but right now I just can’t. I want to be left alone and get caught up on school work.”

“Did you get any sleep last night?”

“I’m not tired.” I said.

“Well, don’t work too hard. I’ll come back and check on you later.” He said. So he stood up and kissed my forehead before he left.

I managed to get several assignments out of the way that day and I did eventually eat the sandwich that Jax brought me.

By the time it was getting dark again, I closed the blinds in my room and I climbed into the really comfortable looking bed and I stared around the pitched dark room for a while. But when I finally got to sleep it was plagued with nightmares of my father’s face.

I only got a couple of hours before I decided to get up and I got changed and headed to the gym again.

I did the same set up as yesterday but by the time I was onto my cardio warm down, my phone started ringing.

“Hello.” I answered.

“Hello Skylar.” A familiar voice said. And I stopped the exercise bike as soon as I heard his voice.

“Dad.”

“I’m surprised you remember me. You did leave me in that car to drown after all.” He said.

“You mean, after you kidnapped me and held a gun on me? Why the hell would I want to save you?” I asked.

“Probably because I am your father.”

“You’re not a father. You’re just a sperm donor.”

“And you’re no better than your mother.” He said.

“Is that why you killed her?”

“Are you trying to get me to admit to something here?”

“Well, you’ve told me in the past that you killed her? I never knew if it was the truth or if you were just trying to keep me in line. Why don’t you stop with these stupid fucked up little games. Why don’t you tell me the truth for once?” I asked.

“Probably because that would be too easy.”

“What do you want dad? You’ve been hidden for so long and now you’re calling me just to taunt me? Well, guess what. I’m not scared of you like I used to be.” I said.

“I can hear that. You’re not trembling as you talk to me anymore. I don’t think those guys have been any good for you at all.”

“What do you want?”

“I want you to know that I’m coming for you. And it’s going to fucking hurt. If you thought I was bad before, you haven’t seen anything yet.” He said and he hung up the phone.

I sat in the gym for a few minutes before I grabbed my towel to wipe the sweat off of me and I went downstairs to the kitchen.

The guys were there but it looked like they had just woken up.

“Hi. Do you want a coffee?” Lucas asked. But I shook my head and I slid my phone across the counter.

“Dad just called me.” I said.

“What did he want?” Jax asked.

“To taunt me. To tell me that when he catches me he’s going to make it hurt a hell of a lot more than before.” I said.

“He’s never going to get his hands on you.” Harry said.

“He’s not going to stop looking for me. And he doesn’t have to hide anymore. Not now that I know he’s alive.” I said.

“What do you want to do?” Jax asked.

“I think it’s time to start playing a little defense. We need to get these assholes before they get us.” I said.
