CHAPTER 15
JAX’S POV
As soon as the guys got back with some clothes, Skylar got dressed and Harry offered to take her to our house while Lucas and I were going to head back to her house and get her things. We didn’t want her going anywhere near the house. So we took Harry and Skylar back to our place and then Lucas and I left to go back to Skylar’s house.
When we got there, we saw that the door was already fixed, which we guess her father did before he even bothered coming to the hospital to see her.
Lucas kicked the door in again and we started looking around the house.
“It’s a nice house.” Lucas said.
“It’s all for show. Skylar always said that it was never really a home. Just a house.” I said. And Lucas nodded his head.
It seemed too sterile to be an actual home. There was nothing about it that screamed home. It was sparsely furnished with really expensive furniture and it didn’t really looked lived in at all.
We found our way upstairs and looked in all the rooms until we found Skylar’s room.
It looked pretty decent. There was a large Queen size bed in the middle of the room, a fireplace on the side wall and a large TV on the wall.
Lucas went over to the window and he would have been looking down at the swimming pool and the massive backyard that came with the house.
“Lucas.” I said. And he turned to look at me. I couldn’t form any words and his eyes followed where I was looking.
It was a door that had an external lock on it and I couldn’t even move my feet. I just stood there staring at it.
So Lucas walked over and he opened the door to see that it was actually Skylar’s real ‘room’. A small closet with a few clothes, a thin blanket on the floor and a bucket.
I slowly walked forward and Lucas knelt down to look at the clothes that were folded against the wall and I knew that it was Skylar who was keeping them folded. She was the one that wanted to keep whatever order she could in this room.
“We aren’t taking any of this crap back to her.” Lucas said. But I didn’t say anything.
Lucas stood up and we stared in the room before Lucas took his phone out and started taking pictures of it.
I don’t know what I expected. We knew that her father treated her like shit, but that was beyond shit. This is way worse than anything we could have ever imagined.
A big house like this and she was reduced to this tiny little closet.
“We’ll buy her new stuff. As much as she wants.” Lucas said, starting to walk out of the room. But I still just looked down at where Skylar had been living. Where she’d been locked inside every night, never being able to leave unless that son of a bitch said that she could.
I could feel my blood practically boiling and I started pounding on the door to that wardrobe and I didn’t stop until it was torn off of the hinges.
The door was just hanging there by a single screw by the time I was finished with it and I turned around and left the house with Lucas.
We drove back to our two story house that was just as big as hers but ours looked more like a frat house.
It definitely looked lived in. But it looked like a bunch of guys lived here because we were the only ones here.
“Where’s Skylar?” I asked.
“She’s upstairs in the spare room. She knows to sing out to us if she needs to come downstairs. We don’t want her falling and breaking her neck until she gets her sight back…Where’s her stuff?” He asked, looking at our empty hands. So Lucas pulled out his phone and pulled up the pictures of Skylar’s bedroom.
I saw his face start changing to a red color as he was getting more and more furious with each photo he saw.
“She was locked in the closet?” Harry asked.
“Yeah. Until Jax broke the door off the hinges.” Lucas said. And Harry looked up at me.
“I would have done the same.” Harry said, handing the phone back to Lucas. “How the hell can that son of a bitch call himself a fucking father? How could he do that to her?” Harry yelled, shocking both of us.
He never showed this much emotion about anything. We were surprised. I didn’t really know what to do or say at first.
I walked into the living room and I sat on the couch trying to come to terms with what we’ve gotten ourselves into.
We were all more resolved now to help Skylar take down her father than we were before. No one deserved it more than he does. And we were going to make sure we were there to see it.
“I did try to escape once.” Skylar said, standing on the bottom step and I got up and raced over to her.
“What are you doing?” I asked, worried that she was going to fall.
“My sight is getting a lot better. I can make it down the stairs.” She said.
“When did you try to escape?” Lucas asked.
“When I was 14. I tried to run away when I was 14. But it started raining and I was exhausted. I hadn’t been fed for a while, and I was weak from the previous beating I had gotten. That’s when I met Jax in the park. That’s where our friendship started.
I felt another pang of guilt in my stomach and my face dropped. I remember that day but she never said anything about running away.
She was just some crazy chick in the rain in the park. I liked that about her. I didn’t know that she was in trouble and she never let me know that she was in trouble.
“I am so sorry. I didn’t know that you had run away. I didn’t know that you were in pain. I definitely didn’t know about that closet.” I said. But Skylar reached out and touched the side of my face with her hand. She then put her arms around me and hugged me, embracing me for the first time.
“I don’t blame you Jax. I didn’t want you to know. I was too embarrassed. And you were this really cute guy that was sitting in the park while it was raining.” She said.
“You never have to worry about that again.” Lucas said.
“Think of us as your guardian angels. No one is going to hurt you again.” Harry said, walking over to us and leaning up against the wall next to where we were standing.
“I’m sorry that you guys had to see that. But I think it was important that you did. So you know exactly how bad it was with him.” She said, a couple of tears streaking her face. So I wiped them away and I hugged her in another tight embrace.
