CHAPTER 88
JAX POV
I didn’t get any sleep at all last night. I was so furious with the guys for how they had treated Skylar and I didn’t know what the hell they were thinking. Nancy is nothing but bad news and Alora is exactly what Skylar said, a slut. But they completely ignored Skylar and treated her like she was just someone to be used for sex until someone better came along.
They had to have known that her self esteem really needs a boost.
As much as we’ve tried, she’s not there yet. Her father beat her down so far that it’s going to take more than a couple of months for her to rebuild it again.
I got up out of bed as soon as the sun started peering through the rain clouds and I got dressed before I headed downstairs.
As I was walking down the hallway the carpet felt wet for some reason. I looked up at the ceiling, maybe we have a leak in the roof.
I’ll have to check it out later.
I went to the kitchen and decided to make Skylar a big breakfast because no doubt she’s already been outside training for hours and hopefully she’s hungry.
I don’t know if she’s gonna want to see the other two, but she needs to eat. No matter what the others say.
I made a pretty big breakfast when Harry came downstairs and Lucas followed not long afterwards.
I just looked at them both before I turned back around to finish what I was doing.
“How is she this morning?” Harry asked.
“I don’t know. Haven’t seen her yet. I’m gonna go and get her now.” I said, still not looking at him.
I headed towards the back door and I put my shoes on as I walked across the yard to the training room.
I opened the door and to my surprise, she wasn’t in there.
She wasn’t training and it didn’t look like anything had been touched this morning. Nothing was out of place.
So I went back to the house and I walked through the kitchen without saying anything to the guys as I went upstairs.
I knocked on Skylar’s door but there was no answer, so I opened it and walked inside.
Her bed was messy like she’d been sleeping in it but the window was wide open and it was still raining.
I walked over and closed the window and that’s when I noticed the carpet was wet in her bedroom as well.
But it wasn’t a puddle.
I couldn’t see the indents in the carpet where it was wet. I could see that they were spaced apart and they were definitely footprints.
But that made no sense.
Why would they start at the window and go towards her bed?
I went into the ensuite and she wasn’t in there either so I ran to look in the wardrobe and there was nothing.
I ran around the top floor of the house checking every room but she was nowhere to be found.
The wet carpet was right outside her bedroom and it was heading towards the stairs.
So I ran down the stairs and unfortunately, that’s where the carpet stopped and I couldn’t see any more wet footprints.
I opened the front door and I ran outside looking around the front of the house. In the gardens and around the side of the house just as Harry and Lucas came out.
“What the hell is going on?” Harry asked.
“Her window was open and there were wet footprints in her room. They led towards the stairs and I can’t find her.” I said.
“She’s missing?” Lucas asked. But I just shook my head because I really didn’t know what the hell to say.
I didn’t know what to make of this.
“Maybe she just went out to clear her head or something? I mean, she was pretty pissed last night.” Harry said.
“She would have told me. She would have stayed away from you two, but she would have told me.” I insisted.
Harry pulled out his phone and he called Skylar, putting it on speaker phone so we could hear her but it just rang out.
“I can put a trace on her phone since it’s still turned on.” Lucas said pulling out his phone and calling someone to trace her phone.
He was only on the phone for a few minutes when he hung up.
“Her phone’s here. In the house.” Lucas said, confused.
So I ran back inside and up the stairs to Skylar’s bedroom.
I started looking around and I saw her phone had been knocked on the bedside table and it was wedged between the table and the bed.
I stood up trying to make sense of where she had gone when I noticed something really small and shiny on her bed.
I leaned over and picked it up and my heart sank immediately. I knew exactly what it was.
I turned around and showed the guys and both of their faces froze as they were.
“That’s a tranquilizer.” Lucas said.
“She didn’t leave on her own. She didn’t leave these footprints.” I said.
“Someone took her.” Harry said.
We went to Lucas’ room and he opened his laptop and got into the security system and we watched from when we got home the previous night and watched all the way through until 3am. When there was a dark figure sneaking through our property.
We’d had a camera installed that was facing towards Skylar’s bedroom and this bastard climbed up the vines on the side of the house to get access to her bedroom.
“Who the fuck is that guy?” Harry asked, trying to get a closer look.
“He knew where her bedroom was. This is a big house. How the hell did he know which one was her bedroom?” I asked.
“He’s been watching us.” Lucas said.
“We would have noticed if someone was watching us. Someone told him.” I said.
“Dad?” Lucas asked.
“Who else knows this house better than us?” I asked.
“William doesn’t need to kidnap Skylar. He already uses her against us. And he knows how to do it. So, there’s no point in going to all this trouble to take her.” Harry said.
“Who else could have done it?” I yelled.
“Well, we’re gonna go and see what he knows.” Lucas said, closing his laptop and we all got ready to leave the house.
