Chapter 10: The Pool
Devis Pov
I dive into the pool, the water was cool and it's cool embrace enveloped me. As I swam I thought about the strange happenings in the house. It was just too much for me to process.
I felt someone was watching me as I swim. I saw a figure standing at the poll. My heart skipped a bit when I realized it was Olivia. She was wearing shorts and a bra. I dived out of the poll. “Hey, have you been watching me?”
“Nah, I just thought I should come here to forget about the happenings and I met you here.” She said, turning to leave.
“This isn't the poll for the maids, weren't you told that?” I asked.
She stood still. “I just saw the poll from my window and thought I could clear my head here, I wasn't told that.”
I looked at her for a while trying to read her intentions but found none. “The poll is for families alone. It's off limits.”
Her eyes cast down as she nodded. “I will make sure I remember that, I apologize.”
As soon as she turned to leave I admired her curves. It was so tempting. I felt a pang of attraction but I had to control myself. I have a lot of things to seek out. And I can't trust her.
“Hold on.” I didn't know when I said that. “What do you think about the things happening in the house?”
“I don't understand.” She said, turning back to me.
“You know exactly what I'm talking about.” Her expressions were unreadable.
“I know nothing about it sir.” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“It's fine.” I let it slide for that moment even if I wasn't convinced.
Her eyes never left mine. She nodded before leaving. There was something about her and I'm yet to figure that out. “I need to keep a close eye on her.” I muttered.
As I turned to dive into the pool, I turned only to see Olivia on the ground. She fell down.
“Are you okay?” I said, rushing towards her direction. I helped her up from the ground.
“Just a little clumsy, nothing much.” her eyes dazed.
Looking into her eyes, there was something there that made me question her words. It seems she was scared. Noticing that I knew I had to keep a closer eye on her than I have been doing.
I couldn't shake the feeling that she was hiding something big from me. “Let me take you to your room. You need some rest.” I knew I had to be close to her to know what she was really up to and scared of.
“No need for that, I can walk on my own. “ She said.
I insisted. “I want to just make sure you're fine, falling like this is very dangerous.” as she looked up at me I saw fear in her.
“Alright.” She said, “Just to my room door, I can take care of myself.” She said, her voice above a whisper.
I smiled within myself. What is she thinking?

As we walked to my room, I wasn't comfortable with him around me. I could feel his eyes on me. I know I have to be very careful.
Rebecca saw him following me to my room and she paused looking at us for a while.
I sighed as soon as I got to the door. “Thank you.” I said, closing the door fast behind me.

I stood outside her door, waiting to hear any sound from within. As my mind raced with possibilities Rebecca's voice distracted me. “Sorry sir, is everything okay?” She asked.
“The prosecutor will be coming today for the investigation.” Rebecca said.
“Alright.” I said, waving my hand for her to go.
“Sir, why are you standing here?” She asked.
I didn't know how best to shut her up. “Just go.” She said
Just then, I heard the click of the door engaging. “Is anything wrong?” Olivia asked. Looking at Rebecca and I.
“Yeah…No, nothing is wrong.” I said, “you were supposed to be resting.”
“I know, I just thought about Emily and I want to check up on her.”
I smiled. “That's nice.” I left her presence. “I don't want her to know I'm trying to get some findings about her.” I said to Rebecca who was following me down the stairs.
“I’m aiming to find out what she's hiding also, we just need to be careful while doing that so she won't know about it.”
It looked as if I was cut in a web of lies. I went straight to my reading desk. I took out a photo of Olivia, she looks just like my wife. I decided to clear the thought out of my mind.
Staring at the photo of Olivia, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there's something about her. I wondered if Olivia was connected to my late wife in a way.
Rebecca's words scattered my thoughts. “The prosecutor is here, should I summon everyone in the house?”
I nodded. “Do that quickly.”
Rebecca went on to gather everyone in the house. The prosecutor came earlier than I expected.
I looked at the photo in my hand before putting it under a file.
I looked from my reading room, I saw Rebecca leading the household staff in the living room. I got up from where I was sitting, and met everyone in the living room.
“Good day everyone. We've not gotten any evidence of the murder in your house Mr. Davis. But I'm here to ask a few questions.”
The room was already filled with noise, everyone denying not yo know anything. “Silence” I shouted, my voice echoing in the wall. “Y'all should let the procecutor speak.”
I gestured a look on the procecutor to continue. “Okay, we have no evidence now, but we believe one of you in this house is the killer.”
The room was filled with denial again. I demanded silence, raising my hands up.
