Chapter 82: Arrival of cousins

Emily's Pov

I angrily left for my room. “He knows how much I love my privacy, why is he still doing this?” I muttered.

Grandma knocked on my door. “Alright we shouldn't argue about this, this is supposed to be a happy moment so don't ruin it. These are your cousin's we're talking about, they aren't staying forever, it's just for a few days, staying with them in your room will only make you know them better.”

I knew I was already defeated, “Alright, but I'm not happy about that, but since that's what you all want.”

“That's my girl.” Grana said, giving me a thumbs up.

I really wished they could just let me have my privacy, I couldn't shake off the feelings that my privacy was invaded.

I slept that night, I wondered what my cousins would look like. I tried to get the thoughts out of my head as I rolI on my bed.

As I woke up the next day it was as if I had run a marathon, I was so exhausted. I got up from my bed and got to the washroom to brush my teeth. Just then, I heard a knock on my door. “Your cousins will be here soon.” Olivia said,

I quickly ran to my mirror, looking at my appearance making sure I'm looking good. I couldn't let them see how tattered I am. I tried to wear a cardigan to cover my tattoo. Nobody knew I had a tattoo. I didn't know how to disclose that to my father because I didn't know how his reaction was going to be. I made sure I adjusted my dress so the tattoo won't show before leaving for the living room.

“Are you feeling cold?” Olivia asked.

“Yes.” I said, even if I wasn't, I had to put on something long to cover my tattoo. We sat on the couch, everyone was waiting for my cousin's arrival. The doorbell rang after a while and I was asked to go and welcome them in. They were full of excitement. I met their beaming faces. I knew I wasn't happy but I tried to hide my resentment.

I frowned, but grandma said that it was supposed to be a happy moment so I don't have to ruin it. I smiled but how could Dad do this to me? My privacy is being invaded. Doris and Rachel entered the living room. The only thing I did when I met them was to smile.

I took them to my room, and they burst into the room happily. “Hey, be careful, my paintings are over there, none of you should go anywhere around there.”

They just stared at me without saying a word. “You're Emily I guess.” Rachel the oldest said.

I raised my eyebrow unsure if I was supposed to answer that question. I ignored them as I concentrated on my phone. I was met with their happy faces. All I could do was to force a weak smile to hide my resentment. I watch them unpack their bags. I watch angrily as they claim my space. Their belongings were now scattered everywhere. For me it looked like a tidal wave of chaos taking the space of my peaceful haven. Rachel on the other hand has a bubbly personality. Her presence made me not comfortable even in my own room and space. While Doris only added to my distress. It was just as if I was becoming a stranger in my home.

We were all called for lunch while they were done. “Hey, Emily, hope you're getting to know them?” My dad asked.

“Yes Dad.” I replied, all concentration in my food.

Doris and Rachel just stared at me. I knew I was actually rude to them. The way Olivia looked at me she knew I wasn't fine.

We enjoyed our meal and after that my Dad reminded me about my cousin brother's and aunties that will soon be arriving. “Make sure you come out to welcome them.”

I nodded. “Okay Dad.”

I climbed the stairs angrily to my room. “Not again.” I muttered.

My cousin came in not long after I entered the room. “Why did you lie to your dad?” Rachel asked.

“Hey, that's none of your business Rachel.” Doris said.

“Let me ssy my mind, why does she hate us? We just arrived here but she's already acting rude towards us.” Rachel said.

I walked towards my drawing as I put all my concentration there avoiding listening to what they were saying.

After a while, Doris walked to my direction. “I love your paintings.” .

“Thanks.” I said.

“I don't know if we are discomforting you, we can move to another room.” She said,

“No it's fine, you both can stay so we can get to know each other.” I said, I have to act nice, that's what Grandma had told me to do.

“Stop acting nice.” Rachel said.

Rachel was very annoying but I wasn't ready to reply to her.

“Ignore her please, that's how she does.” Doris said.

I smiled, “I understand, it's fine.”

Doris asked a lot of questions and I was already tired of answering her. “Can you just leave me alone, let me breathe, let me concentrate.” I shouted.

Doris was shocked. She couldn't believe I just shouted. I walked out of the room angrily, closing the door behind me. I made sure I didn't leave the door. I knew they were going to say something about me.

I stood at the door for some seconds before Doris finally spoke up. “I thought she was a nice person, I don't like her.”

“I told you, let's just tell uncle we will be leaving to another room, I can't stay here with her.” Rachel said. “I never want to come here at first, but mom and dad keep insisting we come.”

“The only reason I'm here is for Uncle's wedding, I can't miss it for anything. If not for his wedding I will just book a flight and leave.” Doris said,

I sighed heavily before opening the door. They rolled their eyes as they saw me walk In. “Are you both done gossiping? Why can't you say all of this in front of me?”

“Oh you think we're scared of you? Come on, you don't know me.” Rachel said,

“And who is this little brat talking to?” I asked, angrily. I knew I didn't want to start a fight but they were pushing me to do so.

“You know what, we will be leaving your room. We know you don't like it when we're here.” Doris said.

There's no way I will let them leave the room even if I want them to really leave. I don't want my parents to have the feelings that I sent them away. “Sorry about my reactions, you know I don't know you guys the way you both don't me, it's hard for me to get along with you guys.”

“I know right, but why are you sad, did something happen?” Doris asked, with a caring tone.

“Nothing really happened.” I said.

“Sure.” I replied.

I sat on my bed. “The truth is that I enjoy my privacy but I can't send you guys out of my room. We need to know each other more.” I muttered.
