Chapter 33: Enemy's
Davis Pov
As Rebecca stood there, I wondered what problem it was. “what is it?” I asked.
“It's about the office, I just got informed that there's an unusual activity on our network and I've been seeing phishing emails, this needs to be attended to, it indicates that it is being tampered with.”
“Could it be that the person is trying to get some information, someone in the office must be working for an external attacker or could it be a glitch.” I said.
“Nah, that's not possible, look at the emails they keep coming in every minute, someone is definitely trying to breach the system.” Rebecca said. “This looks serious sir, I'll call the IT to….”
But before she could finish talking I stopped her. “Wait.”
“Sir we need to do something fast about this, if they manage to access this, the company won't be able to function well.” Rebecca said, with concern.
I quickly rushed outside. “To the office.” I said to my driver, entering the car.
“Can I come with you?” Rebecca asked.
“Sure, isn't that your Job?” I asked.
When we got to the office, everyone was already panicking. “Sir…sir.” I heard from each end as I walked into the company.
I went straight to my office to find out what was really going on. The IT were already informed on what to do. But before I could find out what was going on, the light in my office started blinking and the computers beeped.
“What is going on?” Rebecca asked.
Suddenly all the computer screens went blank then a message came in. “You can't stop me.”
“Turn off the computer, tell everyone to disconnect their device, this is a cyber attack.” my face turned ashen.
Everyone panicked as they quickly disconnected their device. It was just as if I was trapped in a nightmare.
Then to our surprise, the light went off completely, leaving everyone in darkness. “I don't know who the person doing this is up to.”
After awhile the light came back on, the air was filled with tension. My eyes scanned the office as if searching for something. “What can we do now?” Rebecca asked.
“Someone in this office is responsible for this.” I said.
Everyone started looking at each other, not knowing whom to accuse. Suspicion filled the air and I could see the doubt in my employees faces. “Alright, let's stay calm everyone, we all need to find out who is behind all of this.”
As I continued talking, Rebecca whispered in my hear. “What if it's actually someone from the IT, they have access to our system sometimes.”
“Go get me the head of the IT then, I need to speak with him.” I said.
Rebecca rushed to go get the head of the IT, the thought that one of them might be behind it, sent a chill down my spine.
After sometime, Rebecca arrived with John, he was looking frazzled. “Is anything wrong?” He asked, noticing that all gaze was fixed on him.
“You know what is going on, and the only reason you're here is because I want to be sure that none of your workers is responsible for this. If I manage to find out…” I paused.
“I can vouge for my workers, they're not responsible for this.” He said, I could see a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
“Then if it can't be your workers, could it be that you're the one responsible for the outbreak.” I asked, with a questioning eyes.
I knew anyone could be capable of anything, so I couldn't believe that he wasn't hiding something.
“It's better you tell me what is going on now instead of finding out about it myself.” I said to him again.
He was about to say something but he hesitated. “Just tell me who told you to do this, I will let you go.”
“Revenwood Cooperation came to us, they paid us a huge amount of money just to do this. I'm so sorry sir.” John said, kneeling down.
“I see, first they wanted deceive me by investing in my company and now they think this was the best thing they could do because I refused.” I said, turning to John, whose head were bent down.
“He needs to be punished, don't let him go.” Everyone in the office chorused.
The media rushed in as soon as they discovered what was going on. “Sir please, I don't want my family to see this, tell the media to stop recording.” John pleaded.
I sighed. “I can't stop the media, this is their Job, you're meant to be punished for this but I won't do that instead I'll just let the media capture your face so your children can see what their father does outside home.”
Despite his pleas I didn't listen to him, I left his presence, while the media asked him questions. “Why did you do that?”
I left the office, I was already exhausted and tired, the turnout of event and everything put me in shock. “Revenwood.” I muttered.
The driver drove Rebecca and I home. On getting home I just wanted a proper rest, I didn't want any disturbance.
“Where did you go without telling me, I'm now being ignored, Asif that wasn't enough, you leave the house without telling me.” Lisa spat.
I was angry at that moment and Lisa wasn't helping matters. “Why will I tell you I'm going out huh, Are you okay? How dare you raise your voice at me?”
“That's because your attitude towards me has changed. You no longer show me the love you use to.” Lisa said, shouting.
“Rebecca, please go get me a soft drink.” I said.
Lisa laughed. “Oh, it was Olivia in the morning and now it's Rebecca. I see.”
“You talk too much, do you know what had happened as I left this house? Obviously you don't and as my girlfriend what are you suppose to do if you see me in a mood like this? You're just so lousy Lisa.” I said.
She stood there without saying a word, it was as if she was calculating something.
