Chapter 37: Uncovering Truth

I got into Devis' room, I was surprised he wasn't ready for work. I knew this Lisa girl was making him not concentrate on what was going on.

“Good morning.” I said.

“Do you let anyone barge into your room like that?” Lisa complained.

“I knocked, but I didn't get any reply.” I said, she was lounging on the bed.

Davis wrapped his hands around Lisa. “We were just having a good time.”

“This is 9:30 and you have a meeting.” I raised my eyebrow skeptically.

“Leave him, he's not going to the office today.” Lisa said.

“I wasn't talking to you.” I hissed. “Sir, we have a crucial meeting with some marketing team in less than 30 minutes.” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

“Davis won't let some boring meeting get in the way of the plans we have today.” She said, I was about to give a reply to that but was cut shut. “Oh please.” She said,

My voice dripped with venom. “Why are you allowing this lady to control you sir, what plans do you have that can't wait till the meeting is over.”

I left the room slamming the door behind me. What was he even thinking? The company is in a crucial state now and this meeting is important.

Just then Lisa came out, walking in my direction. “There's no difference between you and Olivia, you both are poking your nose in things that don't concern you.”

“This is my Job and I'm doing it.” I said, my voice raising.

“You both have been doing what you want in this house but it's going to end now, I will make the decisions.” Lisa said.

I laughed out loud. “Who do you think you are? I really don't know where Devis got you from, you skinny bone.”

Lisa raised her hands to slap me but I held it. “You want to slap me? You don't dare to do that, even my boss never raised his hands on me in this house so it won't start with you. I know you've been manipulating Davis but you should know it's not gonna work for me.”

“You guys are just jealous, because Davis gives me attention and listens to me, you hate me because of that.” her face twisted in scowl.

“Jealous of you? If it was someone better I would have been jealous but you're nothing compared to me and what you don't know is that you're stopping Davis from going to work, do you think this is about me? Nah, it's about you guys future, the one you want to build with him, it's about the future of his company.” I said, rolling my eyes.

“I have plans with Davis, you don't need to bother yourself, I have plans that don't involve the talk of his company and soon you'll stop working for him.” she said, her expression turning icy.

I don't know what Lisa's plans were but I need to find out about it.

Lisa walked closer. “Don't dare to take a step in doing anything, you won't like what I'll do next.” she warned.

I wondered what she was talking about. Before I could say a word, Lisa gave me a slap. “Don't dare say that to me again.”

Suddenly, Olivia rushed towards our direction. “What are you doing Lisa, you shouldn't slap her, she's not working for you.”

“You both are trying to ruin me right, you're trying to take Davis away from me.” Lisa spat.

“Is that why you slapped her? Huh? Why would you do a thing like that because of jealousy? Where is Davis now?” Olivia asked, turning to me.

I never knew Olivia could defend me after all I've done to her.

“Lisa your behavior is getting worse each day, don't you think before you do a thing, I still don't get why Davis is keeping quiet.” Olivia said, angrily.

“I don't blame you, you turned Emily away from me and now you think you can turn him away from me.” She laughed. “It won't work this time.”

I wanted to hit her back badly. The anger boiling inside of me was too much to bear.

“You're just thinking about your selfish desire, I know you're using him for your own gain.” Olivia said.

The look on Lisa's face made it obvious that she was hiding something. One thing I loved about Olivia was the way she talked and stood her ground. She doesn't care who you are, she will say what she got on her mind.

I followed Olivia as she walked towards Davis' room, she didn't knock, she just entered. “Why?” Davis asked.

We were surprised to see Davis in his office attire. “You're right Rebecca, I should be available for this important meeting, I'm sorry for Lisa's attitude.”

“I know you guys are trying to protect me but I know what I'm doing, I want to play along, I know Lisa is acting strange, she even left the room last night to make a call. I wasn't able to hear the conversation because I don't want her to feel like I'm being suspicious of her, in that way I'll be able to find out what she's up to.” Davis said, with a low tone. Lisa had not walked back into the room with us.

I was relieved. I had thought he was just listening to her, with the way she acts everyone should know she's up to something.

I could say we're just like family to Davis and that's what Lisa is trying to destroy, the relationship Davis had built with his workers.

Just then I received a message that my mother was rushed to the hospital, she has heart failure and we've spent a lot of money on that.

“Oh my God.” I screamed.

Olivia and Davis turned to me asking what was wrong. “I have to rush to the hospital, it's my mother.”

“I'll go with you.” Olivia said.

I held her hands. “I can go alone, you don't need to bother,”
