Chapter 28: Unseen Love
Olivia's Pov
It was the worst night of my life, at that moment I knew I had been wrong. Now my mission in the house is to find out the source of his wealth, I have to ignore my emotions.
I woke up the next morning, my pillow was soaked with tears. “Gosh, was I crying?” I muttered to myself. “Come on Olivia, you can't be crying because of a guy.” my head throbbed with a cold ache as soon as I got out of bed. I just wanted to get all of that out of mind. I have a Job to do and I won't let anything come into my way.
I decided to make coffee and do something to distract myself from the thoughts. I made my way to the kitchen, after making the coffee, I poured myself a cup and made my way back to my room. On getting there I saw a small note on my table. It read, meet me in my study when you are up. “Could it be that he came into my room when I was asleep?” I left the cup of coffee on my desk and headed to his study room. What does he have to tell me, could it be about our discussion last night or he has something to say entirely.
I knocked at the door as I got to the study room. At first there was no response, I was about to knock the second time when he finally told me to come in.
As I got in, Davis was sitting behind his massive desk. His gaze was fixed on me as I entered, I could feel a shiver run down my spine but I know I have to stand my ground. “Good morning.” He said, with a low tone.
“Good morning.” I said, “I saw the note on my desk.”
“Yeah, it's about you, you are hiding something from me.” He said, leaning back on his chair. “You should know that is the reason I asked you to see me.”
My mind began to race, I knew it was time for me to tread carefully and avoid any behavior that will bring suspicion. I can't let him find out that I'm trying to uncover something about him.
“What exactly are you talking about?” I said with a neutral voice.
“Never mind.” He said. “Have you checked up on Emily?” He asked.
“I've not done that yet.” I said.
He nodded, “you should. Let her know about what we discussed last night.”
I nodded before leaving. I met Rebecca at the entrance as soon as I left the room. I tried not to exchange words with her even if I knew she was trying so hard to.
I left for my room, my coffee was already cold. I sat on the bed thinking of how to tell Emily about her father's decision. “What is he a father for? He should tell his daughter himself about things like this.”
Ii walked to her room, she was sitting on her chair with her drawing board facing her
I stood before the wooden drafting table, memories of how I was like this little girl came back to me. I was good at drawing, it was where my dream began before it was shattered into a million pieces. Standing there I remembered the countless hours I spent on my chair drawing. I remember how I poured my pain and soul into my drawings, but while I was sitting and drawing one day, I received news that changed everything. The letter arrived on a Thursday afternoon, it was a blue coloured envelope, when I opened it, it was a letter. The words were written boldly. “We're sorry to inform you that your menu script has been rejected.” I couldn't hold back my tears. That was the only way I thought I could survive. “Rejected?” The word seared into my brain, I felt my passion for drawing leaving, my hopes and dreams were shattered, I needed to take my brother to school. That was the only person I have. I lost interest in drawing and that was when I started working with the FBI.
Emily noticed my presence and she looked up, “Hey.” She said, her eyes sparkled with curiosity on why I've been standing there, lost in thoughts.
“I'm here to talk to you about something Emily.” I said. Her expression changed to that of concern.
“What is it?” She asked.
“It's about your father.” I said, trying to sound casual.
Emily put down her pencil, looking at me with curiosity. I didn't know how to break the news to her. I took a deep breath before starting the conversation, I tried to be gentle.
“Your Dad's girlfriend is coming over today and he wants you to accept her and behave well.” I managed to say.
The look on Emily's face shows that she wasn't happy about that. “Girlfriend? Does he have a girlfriend?” She asked.
“Yeah, daddy has a girlfriend, and soon she'll be your step-mother.” I said.
“Who is she and when is she coming?” Emily asked.
I held her hands. “I have no idea sweetie, but he mentioned earlier that she'd be coming today.”
Emily burst out of her room angrily. “I don't want a step mom.”
Davis saw her approaching him, he knew the reason already. “Calm down sweetie, let me explain things to you.” He said. “You have to understand.”
“Understand? No Dad, you also need to understand that I don't want her.”
“Come on, you haven't seen this lady and you hate her already.” Davis said, trying to calm her down.
“Her name is Lisa and she's a nice person, I know you'll like her, so why don't you wait to see her before you start all of this.” Davis said.
“Lisa.” That name sounds familiar. “Nah, many people bear that name, what I'm I thinking.” I muttered.
But it seems like Emily wasn't ready to listen to what her father was saying. She left the living room angrily.
