Chapter 7: The whispering walls
Olivia's Pov
My heart raced as we searched for Emily in the mansion. We couldn't find any trace of her. “Emily.” Davis kept screaming. Maria and Rebecca looked terrified as they scanned every corner. Davis ' eyes were filled with determination.
We searched everywhere in the house, the rooms, the garden where she usually plays but we couldn't find her. My mind raced with a worse scenario. I knew Vincent and what he's capable of doing. “This must be his doing.” I said to Davis who nodded in agreement.
Suddenly Davis stopped. “Did you hear that sound?” He asked.
We all paused for a while as we listened to Emily's cry. we sprinted through the sound.
“Davis is somewhere in this house.” I said, pointing in the direction of Marcus. “Check that out.”
As we opened the door we saw a figure dragging Emily who was trying to protect herself. As soon as the figure noticed our presence he flew out of the window. Marcus jumped out of the window following the figure but he escaped already.
I and Marcus knew that the night had only turned into a nightmare and we were also running out of time.
I was relieved that we found Emily. “Dad, I was scared.” She said, as Davis wrapped his arms around her.
Davis Pov
Emily had refused to sleep in her room that night, I watched her as she lay on my bed. “Why don't you stay with Olivia?”
“No Dad, I want to stay with you today, I'm scared.” She said, in a low tone.
I looked at my little princess for a while. I sat beside her. Her eyes were still full of fear. “You don't need to be scared sweetie, you know I'm always here for you, right?”
Her grip on me tightened. Vincent had caused all of this. My daughter is now scared to sleep. “I won't let him get away with this.” I muttered to myself.
“Don't be scared, okay? I won't let him hurt youI promise.” I said, my voice reassuring.
I knew I had to do everything in my power to protect her. “But Dad.” She said, “Who is that man and what does he want?” she asked.
“He's an enemy who wants my downfall and I won't let that happen.” I said, with a warm smile. “You know you're my world, and I give anyone the chance to hurt you.”
I could feel her body trembling as she hugged me tightly. I tried to chase away the fear in her, I stroked her hair. She smiled and drifted off to sleep.
I laid next to her, I knew I would do anything in my power to protect her. “Vincent, I will never let you win.” I muttered.
Looking at Emily sleeping, I felt a glimmer of hope.
Olivia's Pov
I was finding it difficult to sleep. I rolled on bed as my eyes were fixed on the ceiling. Vincent was really making things difficult for us. I needed to find out about Davis fast.
I couldn't place what Vincent was really up to. Why was he doing this now, when we need to find out about Davis. All I could think of was little Emily, She shouldn't be experiencing all of this.
My mind raced with thoughts, I got up from the bed, throwing away the over at a corner. My brain was refusing to shit off, it was filled with thoughts.
I stood at the window, staring at the night. Vincent had gone so far by touching Emily. I closed my eyes, as I continued thinking. I heard a whisper outside my room door. I opened the door, wondering who that was. To my surprise it was Rebecca.
“Hey, can I come in?” She asked.
“Sure,” I replied. She sat on the bed. I waited patiently for what she had to say.
“It's about our Boss.” She paused for a while. “What about him?” I asked.
“I don't know your real intention in this house, but I'm here to beg you not to hurt him, after his wife's death it took him a long time to recover and I can't stay and watch anything bad happen to him and that little girl anymore.” Rebecca pleaded.
I stared at her for a while. “Do you think I'm the bad person here? I also care about him and his daughter and I love this family,” I paused, my eyes fixed on hers.
I know she's suspicious of me but I need to make her believe I wasn't up to anything. “I’m not the one causing all the troubles, Vincent is the one threatening this family and not me.”
“Sorry then, I was wrong about you.” Rebecca said. I shook my head in disagreement. “Nah, I can't do that, I'm also trying to protect this family.”
“Sorry for bothering you.” Rebecca said, getting up from the bed.
I forced a smile out of my face. “It's fine, I understand, we've all been blinded by assumptions.”
Rebecca was about to leave the room. “Wait.” I called out to her. I hesitated before speaking. “You need to believe everything I've said to you.”
She shook her head, looking for any sign of deception in my face. She closed the door behind her as she left.
I sat on my bed. Looking at the luxurious room. No one would have ever thought that a nanny would be in a room like this.
“If only they knew I'm just a seeker of truth.” I muttered.
I heard a faint whisper echoing in my ear. “We know Nanny, we know.” I scanned around the room but found no one. I thought it was just my imagination. I dozed off again but I heard the same sound echoing in my ears.
I took a deep breath as I stood up from the bed. “I'll uncover the secret of Davis and this house no matter what.” I whispered back to the darkness.
But as I spoke back to the darkest the whisper grew louder. I tried to shake off the feeling, telling myself it is obviously an imagination that is playing tricks on me.
