Chapter 13: Betrayal
Davis Pov
I took a deep breath as I got into my car, the thoughts of the meeting with Vincent filled my mind as I pulled up the engine heading out of the driveway. But I have to do it for Emily's sake and the sake of my own redemption.
I drove through the city, I knew Vincent won't just agree to the meeting without preparing his men for it, they could be anywhere ready to strike.
I got to the abandoned warehouse. I sighed heavily as I stopped the car. The silence of the warehouse showed that I was really getting into something dangerous. I felt someone was watching me even if I couldn't see anyone.
I got to the entrance of the warehouse, the large wood door creaked, as I pushed the door. As I stepped inside I scanned through the darkness. I reached for my gun so I won't be caught unaware.
The light came on and Vincent appeared. “Welcome.” He said, his voice dripping with malice. “What took you long, I've been waiting for you.”
I was ready for anything as my hand tightened round the gun. But as I looked at Vincent there was something in him that made him feel he had won. Like he got the victory already.
“What is he planning?” I muttered to myself. I had thought I had said that in mind.
“Planning?” he asked. “Are you telling me you don't know? You're just so predictable. You really think I'll make an arrangement to see you just to negotiate. You know what you're just a pawn in my game.”
“What exactly are you talking about?” I asked.
“That you'll know soon, firstly we need to get rid of the baggage.” Vincent chuckled.
His men surrounded me. I wanted to bring out my gun to fight but I needed to control myself. The prosecutor had told me his men will be in a hidden place in the warehouse.
“You just have power, nothing more, why didn't you come along with your bodyguards.” He laughed out loud. “I guess the prosecutor told you not to do so.”
I was shocked. How did he know about my discussion with the prosecutor?
Vincent smiled. “I have the upper hand here Vincent, the prosecutor had deceived you, I sent him to you and I got you this time.”
It was obvious that all hope seemed lost.
“The wire he gave to you to wear is not working, I planned all of this to bring you down.”
Before coming there the wire which the prosecutor had given to me was too long and I needed something that won't be noticeable so I changed it to the one I have.
“I hired some killer to kill your wife but unfortunately she didn't die so I killed had In the hospital.” Vincent was talking when we heard a sound, the sound of footsteps were heard but we couldn't see anyone.
“Did you tell anyone about this meeting?” Vincent asked.
The wrong prosecutor had investigated and betrayed me. But they didn't have any idea about my secret weapon. The new wire for recording which I had changed. I was putting a new one which they didn't know about.
The sound of footsteps grew louder, as the sound was coming closer Vincent men were prepared for who it was. I have no idea who the people coming are, so I knew I had to act fast by leaving there.
The light in the warehouse went off, a figure emerged from the darkness. “Freeze.” His eyes were fixed on Vincent's men.
To my surprise it was Marcus, Olivia must have told him about this and I don't know if he was here to rescue me or not.
“Oh, look who we have here, you think you can outsmart me.” Vincent's eyes twisted in anger.
The warehouse was filled with chaos. Vincent men started shooting. I knew I had to stay close to Marcus even if I didn't know his intention, I needed to make it out alive.
I avoided the hail of bullets as the both men exchanged fire. “You will die in my hand this time around, Vincent.” I said, my gun trained on him.
I slowly moved closer to him, he shot a bullet but it whizzed past my ear, I spun around when I sighted the prosecutor. There was a sly smile on his face.
He laughed moving closer. “Fools, do you think you can take him down without going through me?” The prosecutor said.
Marcus and I both exchanged a glance. We faced the prosecutor, with a shot, but he ran into the darkness.
I quickly ran to the switch, switching on the light. “Where is he?” I asked Marcus, my eyes scanning the area.
Marcus and his men had already escaped. Marcus had come prepared. He grabbed my arms and pulled me out of the exit. Immediately we got out of the car I saw Vincent, he was in his car already, he pointed his gun directly at me.
Before I could run out of there, Vincent threw a bullet while Marcus ran, taking the bullet meant for me. Vincent and his men drove out of the warehouse, leaving us in the scene. I watched as he laid on the floor. My eyes wide with shock on why he had taken the bullet. I knew there was more to this that I needed to know.
Marcus' men rushed him to his car as they drove towards the hospital. I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off.
We got to the hospital, the medical team rushed him into the emergency room. I followed them behind. The doctor came out after a while. “He's lost a lot of blood. We're still trying to see what we can do to save him.”
“Please doctor do anything you can to save me, that man in there saved my life.” I said, pleading.
My mind kept racing with thoughts. “Marcus sacrificed his life for me?” I've never thought of that. I knew Marcus had his reasons. So I waited patiently for him to recover.
