Chapter 8: Enemy within
Devis Pov
I stretched my arms as I got up from bed. I realized Emily was still asleep. “Sweetheart, you need to get ready for school.” I said, tapping her gently.
Rebecca walked in, holding a file. “Sir you have a meeting with Ravenwood cooperation this morning.”
I nodded, “Take Emily to Olivia, I forgot she's supposed to resume school today.”
“Alright sir, I'll be waiting outside.” She held Emily who was not fully awake. “And sir, the meeting with Revenwood Cooperation is also about them investing in your company.” She said,
I raised my eyebrow. “I thought they were never Interested in partnering with the company.”
“I think their intentions have changed.” Rebecca said.
“Alright, let me get ready for the meeting then, and tell Olivia to make sure Emily gets to school safe. The driver will drop them off.” I sighed, rubbing my temples.
She nodded, closing the door behind her. Leaving me to prepare for the unexpected meeting.
I stood under the shower, my mind filled with thoughts of the meeting. The sudden Interest of Ravenwood cooperation in investing in Davis' enterprise was suspicious. “After all these years, asking them to invest, why do they choose to do so now when I'm no longer interested.” I muttered.
I walked out of the bathroom, I dried myself off and began dressing. I knew there was more to this meeting that met my eyes.
I was about to step out of my door when my phone buzzed. “Be careful, Ravenwood's intentions are something else.” I didn't know who the message was coming from. I wondered who it was that knew about the meeting. I know it was only Rebecca that knew about the meeting.
I tried to brush it off, took a deep breath and headed out of the door.
Olivia's Pov
Rebecca had told me Davis was rushing for a meeting with Ravenwood cooperation. So I had secretly messaged him because I knew Vincent's hands were in it.
I had to warn David about Vincent's intention. Vincent has eyes and ears everywhere and if he finds out that I'm meddling with his plan he will make sure he ends my life. I knew I had to be careful.
I know I had to focus on what brought me to the house but I can't stand and watch him walk into any trap. I need to act, even if it's dangerous just for Emily's sake.
I quickly took Emily to school after making sure she ate breakfast. The driver drove me back to the house.
I sat on the couch feeling exhausted. “Hey, we're not allowed to sit there.” Maria said.
I got up from the couch quickly. “I knew nothing about that.”
I waited for Davis' reply, my phone clutched in my hand. After sometime a message flashed on my phone screen.
“Who's this?” Davis asked.
I was unsure of how much to reveal. “It's Olivia.” my fingers on the keyboard. I was about tapping send. “What I'm I thinking? He'll know I'm up to something.” I quickly deleted the message, throwing my phone on the bed.
I collapsed on my bed feeling exhausted. I didn't sleep last night. I guess that's why.
I heard a faint knock on the door. “Who is it? I asked. “Come in.” I tried to act calm.
It was the head Housekeeper. Maria. She walked in, her eyes filled with worry. “Are you okay? Olivia. You've been acting strange all morning.”
“I'm fine, just tired.” I forced a smile out of my face.
Instead, she walked closer, her eyes fixed on me. My mind began to race wondering what she's up to. “Has she noticed anything?” I thought.
“You're hiding something, is it your boyfriend?” She asked.
“I don't have one.” I said, smiling.
Maria smiled back at me. “I was just worried that's why I decided to check up on you. You looked down when you came back after dropping Emily.”
I was taken aback. “Nah, it's nothing.”
Davis Pov
I walked into the meeting room, the team were already seated, their faces stern. I approached my chair as I took a deep breath.
I extended my hands to the owner of the Revenwood Cooperation who was sitting close to me. “Good morning gentlemen.”
But they didn't respond to my greeting. Instead, their leader, who is the owner of the company, spoke on their behalf.
“We aren't here to waste time on pleasantries, I got other things to do.” He said.
I smiled, knowing what they were up to. Rebecca came in. All attention was drawn to her. She said something to me quietly before leaving.
“So what were you saying?” I asked.
“we’re making an offer but it comes with a price.”
I tried to keep my voice steady. “What kind of price are you talking about?”
“We want your company to become a subsidiary to ours, we're ready to provide all the funding.”
I smiled. This was actually a hostile takeover. Do they think I'm dumb?
The owner of Ravenwood cooperation leaned forward. “We're making it Worth it.”
“Do you think I'm so foolish to accept that, you're obviously trying to take over my company. I knew something was off when my secretary told me I'm having a meeting with you.” I laughed, a cold sound.
“We're only telling you, you're In position to refuse the offer.” He said.
I leaned back on my chair. I knew one mistake would be the end of it. “I'm not accepting that offer.” I said getting up from my chair. “And please when you're done having that coffee leave my company.” I said to a young man sitting among them.
Mr. Ravenwood's face turned red with anger. “You're making a big mistake, you should be happy that our company wants something to do with yours.”
“I'd rather sink with my own ship than to be sold out to a company like yours, it can never happen.” I laughed. “You have just the power, but I have both the power and integrity and this is something you'll never have.”
With that I walked out, leaving them soothing with anger.
