Chapter 16: Davis Discovery
Davis Pov
I couldn't sleep last night, my mind was just filled with different thoughts. As the day broke and the sun began to shine, there was a knock on my door. It was Rebecca. She came in with a bright smile on her face. “Good morning, Davis.” Rebecca said. “Do you want your breakfast to be served here?”
“Nah, I'll be eating with my little Emily today.” I smiled.
As soon as I got to the set table, the meal was properly arranged and the aroma of fried chicken and morning coffee filled the air.
Emily had come down with Emily, “so you'll have to eat fast so you won't be late for school.”
Emily made a move to leave but I told her to join us. She hesitated before sitting.
I couldn't help but notice the way she was looking at me.
“So Davis, if you're u don't mind tell me how you made it this big. I always admire you on how you're this successfuL knew she was in for her secret investigation, she doesn't know I know what she's been up to.
I smiled. “I think it's time we have a little chat Olivia.” I said, my voice was cold and hard.
The expression on her face shows that she was scared if I found out about anything. “What do you mean?” she asked, her smile faltering.
“Come on, we should maintain Good table manners. You taught me not to talk while eating.” Emily said
“I'm sorry about that.” I said, reaching for her hands, holding her gently.
After a while, she was done eating. “I'll take her to school then.” Olivia said, standing from the chair.
“Nah, you don't need to worry about that, I decided that I'll take her to school today myself. She needs to enjoy fatherly love.” I said, smiling.
“I suppose that's a good idea, you hardly spend time with her, this could be another way you can spend little time with her.” Olivia said.
“Yay daddy is taking me to school today!” She exclaimed, her eyes filled with excitement.
I smiled at her. “So ready to go? So you won't be late.” her face was filled with excitement, she took her bag and we headed out of the door. I was ready to avoid using my busy schedule and not spend time with her. I got her into the car and drove to her school. She shattered excitedly about her school and her friends.
I listened attentively to her, feeling a sense of love and pride for my little girl.
I waved at her as she got out of the car, I watched her walk into the school building. As I drove away from the school Olivia word came to my mind. “This could be another way to spend time with her.” I knew she was right and I was willing to do that sometimes.
As soon as I pulled up to the red light, there was a beep on my phone, shattering the peaceful moment I had. I didn't check who had sent the message, so I drove back home.
Olivia's Pov
“Welcome.” I said, closing the door behind him.
“Where is Maria?” he asked.
“I have no idea, it seems she's not around.” I said.
“She didn't tell you guys where she was going” Davis asked, I had a feeling he was suspicious of her.
“Nah, she didn't. Is there a problem?” I asked.
“Nothing at all, I didn't see any trace of her that's why I asked, why will she leave this house without telling me or anyone, it seems like she doesn't love her job.” Davis said.
“Maybe she has a personal emergency.” I said, my eyes narrowing slightly. “She’ll turn up soon, you know she's very dedicated to her job.”
“And why are you defending her?” He asked. His eyes flickered at my last statement. “What does he think about her disappearance, does he know anything about her that I don't.” I muttered to myself.
“Nothing, I just feel she's a responsible person and if it wasn't an emergency she wouldn't leave without saying a word. Something might have happened.”
But Davis' gaze pierced through me. “Do you in any way know where she went to? Because I find it strange if you keep talking about her like this.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“Don't play dumb, you know something about her disappearance.” Davis said,
I smiled. “Fine, you got me, I saw her sneaking out of the house as if she didn't want to get caught, but yo be sincere I don't know where she was going to.”
“So why didn't you say that earlier and hey don't trust people that easily by defending them.” David said.
I nodded. “Alright, but are you suspicious of her, it looks like you are.”
“Just let me know when she's back.” He said.
On getting to my room. I wondered why he's so worried about that.
I remembered I was supposed to go see Marcus. “My bad, I forgot about that.”
I took a quick shower, dressed up, put on jeans, trousers and a jacket.
The role in the house was to take permission from Maria before leaving the house but she wasn't around so I had to go knock tell Devis instead.
“Come in.” He said.
I hesitated for some seconds before entering. “I want to go and check up on Marcus.”
“O my God, I totally forgot about that, let's go together.” He said, pulling off his shirt to wear something else in my presence.
“Excuse me sir.” I said, leaving the room.
I couldn't focus, the thought of his broad chest filled my mind. There was a tattoo written on his back, I guess I saw a name. “That might be his late wife.” I muttered.
I waited for him outside his door, Rebecca came passing by, she must be wondering what I was doing outside his door. “Yeah he told me to wait for him.” I said, even without her asking.
She hissed, pushing Devis door open.
