Chapter 30: Battle for Emily
Olivia's Pov
I sat on my bed unsure of what was going on downstairs. I left my room, I tried eavesdropping to hear what Lisa was saying to Emily but it seems they were just looking at each other.
The way Emily fixed her gaze on Lisa was warning her to be ready for war. When I looked at Lisa for the second time, I realized she was my course mate at high school. She was a bully and almost all the students were afraid of her and her crew. “Oh my God, this can't be happening.” I had never imagined I'd meet her after all these years and what makes it worse is that I'm working as Emily's Nanny. I knew Lisa is a lady who won't take nonsense even from Emily. I was beginning to feel pity for Emily. “The poor girl deserves better than this but her father won't listen to her.” I said to myself.
Memories of high school filled my mind as I stood there in shock. I noticed her cruel smile, and the thought of how her crew dealt with anyone who dared to cross them. I was a shy person then, I remember the fear that grips me whenever I see her coming my way. And here she is now, the gaze in her eyes was still the same, it was a gaze that seemed to date anyone who wanted to challenge her. “Hey, why are you standing here?” Davis asked.
That was when I realized I had been standing there for close to an hour. “Come, let me introduce you to Lisa.” Davis said, leading me downstairs.
On getting there, I could see the shock on Lisa's face. “Whoa, see who we have here.”
“Do you two know each other?” Devis asked.
Lisa's eyes narrowed as she looked at me. I could hear what she was thinking. “Yeah, I know her, she was the little mouse who usually cower in my presence. Well, it's a big world, I never thought I'd see you ever again.”
I was ready to stand my ground. I won't let her see me as the shy person she knew, I had changed and grown all these years and I was looking better than her. She was skinny without any curves and I was standing with my perfect shapes. “It's been a while Lisa.” I finally said.
“Yeah, so what brings you here, working as a nanny?” Lisa asked.
“Don't say that to her, she's not just a nanny as you think.” Emily said.
I glanced at Emily and I knew I had to stand up for myself. I wasn't a nanny. I was just doing this job because I had to find out the source of Davis' wealth but I knew I had to pretend to be the nanny they all think I am to get what I want.
“I'm actually here to take care of Emily and as you can see I'm doing a great Job. If I'm permitted to say those myself.” I said.
Lisa laughed out loud. “I guess you are, it's not as if you have any other skill, you must be good at this because you grew up taking care of your little brother, so I think Nannying is the best for you to do.”
I had heard enough from her. “Enough “ I raised my voice, "I think it's time you look in your mirror and I hope you find out that your behavior is going to take you nowhere in life.”
All eyes were on us. Lisa pretends she was overeating. “I'm so sorry dear, I think it's time you know I've changed,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
I just smiled. The queen of meanness, showing a good side? I knew she was pretending. I didn't know what I was going to make of her pretense so I left there.
Emily followed me upstairs, ignoring Lisa when she called her back.
Davis Pov
“What was that?” I asked, expecting a quick answer from her.
“I was just trying to defend myself, I didn't want her to make a fool of me.” Lisa said.
“Olivia is a good lady and I know she won't do something like that, why all this attitude?” I asked.
“Maybe you should just send her away, I'm here now, I should be the one taking care of Emily.” Lisa said.
“What about your work? How will you be there for her always, she's already fond of Olivia, I can't send her away.”
But Lisa frowned. “You won't start this now, I told you about this before you came here.” I said, warning her.
“But I want to be the closest to Emily, there's no way I can win her over if that girl is still in this house.” She said,
“Nah, I'm not in support of sending her away.” I said.
“I don't know why you are not in support of this, I should be the one taking care of her.” Lisa's frown deepened.
“We've talked about this Lisa, you have a career I guess and will you just drop all of that to take care of Emily everytime, I told you earlier that I want someone who will always be there for her and as you can see Olivia is qualified and experienced and Emily loves staying around her.” I sighed, trying to reason things with her.
But Lisa wasn't happy with my decision. She shook her head in disagreement as I was done talking.
“I want Emily to be happy and I'm doing what is best for her. You should find a way to be close to Olivia so you'll find out things you can use to make Emily like you instead of all these rants.” I added.
“I just feel she won't like me if that lady is anywhere around this house.” Lisa said.
I held her hands, hugging her tightly. “With time you both will get along with each other, we weren't expecting her to be happy to see you, I told you how Emily is, didn't I?”
