Chapter 19: The yacht

Olivia's Pov

The yacht glided across the river, I felt a sense of relief. Davis handed me a glass of champagne. I sipped it slowly. “Wow, this is good.”

As I sipped the champagne the bubbles danced in my tongue. Davis stares at me,his eyes crinkling In the corners. He smiled, which brought out his deep dimples. I was lost for a while. I felt a flutter in my chest. I tried not to think about it, but my heart skipped a beat. It was strange how my body awakened.

“Thank you.” That was the only thing that could come out of my mouth at that moment.

“Come on, you don't need to thank me, the important thing is that we are both alive, that's all that matters.” He said.

I nodded, agreeing with him. I observed the environment and I was beginning to enjoy my stay there. “Oh my God, we're forgetting something.”

“What is that?” Davis asked.

“Emily, she's still in school, it slipped out of my mind.”

Davis smiled. “Don't worry, I'll just call Rebecca to go pick her up, I want her to join us here,”

I felt a wave of relief wash over me. “But don't you think I should go, that's what I'm paid for.”

Davis ' smile flattered for a moment. “You’re a friend, not just an employee.” he said with a serious expression. “I don't want you to go pick her up today, Rebecca will do that, she's capable of handling it.”

I smiled back at him. “Okay.” I said,

Just then, he brought out his phone, “Hey Rebecca, can you go pick Emily from school. Bring her to join me on the yacht, you know where I usually come when I want a time alone.” He said, “yeah, thanks.” he hung up the phone after that.

I began to realize that I was falling for him hard, my feelings for him were beyond gratitude.

After a while Rebecca called and said that she was around. Davis and I left the yacht to go receive our little Emily.

“Hey my baby, sorry for picking you late.” I said.

“That apology won't be accepted.” Emily said, frowning her face.

“Come one, sweetie, she apologized already.” Davis said.

I could see the way Rebecca looked at me. There was a hint of jealousy in her eyes. But why was she jealous? She's just Davis' secretary and does she want him to mingle just with her?

“Hey Rebecca, thanks for bringing her back.” I said, faking a smile.

“Yeah, it's nothing.” She said, turning to Davis, "Sir , you have an appointment with some clients tomorrow, don't you think you should start preparing for it?”

I knew she was looking for a way to get Davis away from me.

“That can wait till later, you can just go and prepare for that, read the files and everything, so when I'm back you'll explain for me.” Davis said.

I laughed out loud, as their attention drew towards me. “What was that for?” Davis asked.

“Nah, I just read something funny on my phone, sorry about that.” I said.

We walked back to the yacht, Emily talked excitedly about her day. I noticed the tension between Rebecca and me. It was obvious that she's jealous, so I tried to find out why she should be jealous. “Is it possible she has feelings for him and it looks like she hates it when he's around me.” I muttered quietly to myself.

I tried to forget about what she had to say, my main intention was to enjoy my time with Emily and Davis. But as we got into it , Rebecca's words came to mind. “You have an appointment, so you should prepare for it.” This reminded me that Davis was always a busy man, and it looks like Rebecca was part of his life, because she's always around him. And now this little time I'm spending with him is making her jealous.

The evening wore on, I watched as Davis and Emily chat and play happily, looking at him, he was so attractive and charming. Just then he excused himself as he went to make a call.

I wondered what laid ahead, was I just someone to keep him company, he mentioned earlier that we were friends. “Or is there something more than friendship that is worth fighting for.”

Emily tapped me. “Are you talking to yourself?”

“Don't mind me sweetie, daddy will soon be back and we'll get going soon.” I said.

“But I don't feel like going, I love this place, since when you got to our house my dad started giving me attention, what have you been telling him?” Emily said, with a tiny voice.

I looked into her curious eyes, “nothing much, I just think he decided that he was going to change on his own. Isn't that a good improvement?” I said, arranging her hair. But her gaze pierced through me.

“You're not like the other ladies, right? She asked. I felt a pang of guilt. Knowing that I was suspicious of her father getting his wealth wrongly.

“What do you mean by the other ladies?” I asked.

She's a little clever girl. “What I meant was, hope you're not here because of his money.”

“Emily…” I wanted to say something but my words were cut off as Davis returned. “Sorry about that.” He smiled at us. “So what have you both been up to?” He asked.

“I’m just here enjoying some time with Emily here.” I said, looking at Emily.

“Dad, can we stay here for today? I'm enjoying my stay here, I don't want to go home.” Emily said, with her innocent voice.

“If that is what you want, it's okay with me.” Davis said. “Hope that's fine by you?” He asked, looking at me.

“Sure.” I said, smiling.

“Dad, do you like Olivia?” Emily said,

Her question was shocking to Davis as he looked at me laughing. “Of course, she's our new nanny and like a friend to us, so we should like her.” Davis said.

Why was I expecting to hear more than that? I looked at him, putting on a fake smile on my face.
