Chapter 53: Lonely and Lost

Olivia's Pov

I watched as Marcus drove in, he had stood outside for a while talking to someone over the phone. His eyes kept scanning the surroundings. I didn't tell him I was back so why was he here? After a while, he spotted me standing at the window, his gaze fixed on me as I quickly closed the curtains. I kept wondering why he was here. I took a step back from the window.

Marcus walked to the door, he knocked slowly, I hesitated before opening the door for him to come in. “Hey,” I said, in a low tone. My face was red and puffy because I have been crying.

“How do you know I'm back?” I asked.

“About that, I saw you leaving the mansion so I followed suit.” He said.

“So why have you been standing outside?” I asked.

“I was making an important call.” He said.

I wondered how important that call is that he has to stand out for that long just to take it.

“You.” He said. “Why will you fall for a guy like that, was that what you were sent there to do?” Marcus said.

I took a deep breath. “Marcus please, just stop.” I cut him shut.

“Just shut up Olivia, you had your chance to leave that house without him knowing about this but you were too focused on your feelings for him.” Marcus said.

I fixed my gaze on him. “What do you take me for? Is it a crime to fall in love? I was only used to getting him, but I hope we should all be happy now because that man is innocent, he's a good man.” I said.

“You should forget about him for now, I'm here.” Marcus said.

I knew Marcus and I had been friends but I didn't know what he was trying to say. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“I'm in love with you, you should be with me instead of stressing yourself on that guy.” Marcus said.

“Oh please, what are you saying?” I said. “Stop being ridiculous.” A turmoil was boiling inside me but I tried to be calm. “We are friends and that we'll remain, nothing more than that and it's not your business if Davis loves me or not.”

But Marcus face wax filled with hurt. “Are you choosing him over me?”

“Marcus we are cool being friends, I've never left you on, I don't know why you think we could be more than this.” I said.

“Come on, I know you knew I felt something for you all this while, you've just ignored all of that, I've been here for you, you shouldn't repay me like this.” Marcus said, his words spilling out in a rush.

I sighed. “Can you just stop Marcus, stop it, I'm not in love with you, I see you as a friend don't ask for more than that.”

The tension between us was palpable and I wondered if I had gone too far.

“You're really going to deny it right, you will deny you didn't feel the connection between us.” Marcus said, stepping closer.

His gaze was still fixed on me, I couldn't help it. “Marcus, I think you should leave, I will see you tomorrow.”

“I don't think I can leave without getting an answer from you.” Marcus said. “But if you really don't feel anything for me maybe we should quit being friends.” Marcus added.

Marcus turned to leave but I called him back. “Can you stop that, we've been friends and you won't just let this destroy that friendship.”

But his expression was bitter. “You made it clear to me already that you can only be friends with me, is it that I'm not as cute as Davis huh?”

I don't know if I had hurt him, but I wasn't in love with him. But he left, jamming the door behind him. “Don't tell me I have lost my friend.” I muttered, still trying to process all that has happened.

Just then, my phone rang. I hesitated before picking the call.

“Are you okay, Olivia?” It was Davis.

He had called with an unknown number because he knew I wouldn't pick up. “I'm fine.” I lied.

“Why did you leave?” He asked.

“Because I feel I'm no longer welcome there.” I said.

As I hung up the phone with Davis I sighed heavily, I heard the door creaking open. It was Caleb. “Why are you here?” I asked.

“Can't I come visit my sister again, I've been calling but you didn't pick up, so I decided to come check if you are back. I guess he knows everything now.” Caleb said.

“And I saw Marcus driving out of the house, he was looking like he had lost his last friend.” Calev said.

“Well, he confessed his feelings for me and I told him I'm in love with Davis, that got him really upset.” I said, unsure of how to reveal to him that Davis' dead wife was Lucy, our sister.

“I had no idea he likes you.” Caleb said. “So what are you gonna do?” He asked.

“I'm confused, I don't want to lose him as friends, I feel like I've lost him but I feel he should understand, I can't pretend to feel something I don't.” I said.

“But are you sure that's all, it seems you're more worried about something.” Caleb said.

“Yeah, Davis wants me to come back, he said Emily is really hurt and there is something I also need to see.” I said.

He nodded as if waiting for me to continue talking. I wasn't sure if I should tell him what I found out about Lucy. I hesitated but the look on his face encouraged me to tell him. “There's one more thing, something shocking.” I said.

“And what is that?” Caleb asked, with curiosity.

“Davis' late wife Elizabeth, is our sister Lucy.” I said. But the look on Caleb's face was questioning.

“how is that possible, how did you find out?” He asked.

“I saw the picture when I was searching for something in his room, I couldn't believe my eyes, that was one of the reasons I left.” I said.

“So she's dead? She didn't tell us she was married, I won't forgive her for doing this to us, what did she take us for.” Caleb said, angrily.

I sighed heavily. “I'm just doomed Caleb, I feel we need to talk to David about Lucy, I wasn't able to talk to him about it because he was looking for his daughter then, and I didn't want to make him more worried.”

“And you once told me his wife was killed.” Caleb said.

I nodded. “Then I will need to kill that person myself, the person that dared to kill her, before we get to see her again.” Caleb said in a sad tone.

I looked at Caleb, he was boiling with anger. “I know you really want Justice but we need to be careful, we need to get the whole story about this from Davis before we do anything.”

“Yeah, that's what we will do.” Caleb said.
