Chapter 55: Haunted Heart
Olivia's Pov
Sitting on my bed, I stared at the image of my parents on the wall. Just then Caleb walked in. “Are you going? Why don't you stay with me.” I said.
“You know I'm always busy, even if I'm staying here I won't have your time.” Caleb said.
“It's still better to have someone around.” Is that too much to ask, Its boring staying here alone.” I said tapping his back.
“Okay fine, but I need to get some things at my place, but I think you should get married.” He said,
“Married?” I asked, laughing out loud.
“Yes sis, you need to because you're getting old already.” Caleb said.
“You shouldn't say that, I'm still young.” I said, but Caleb started laughing non-stop.
“Why are you laughing, you're making me feel bad now.” I said.
“But that's the truth.” Caleb said.
I knew all what Caleb was saying was right when I thought about it, I knew he was saying the truth, I deceive myself that I'm still young and have the time to get married anytime I want but I can't just rush into marriage. “This might be my destiny, to stay alone, to remain single.” I muttered.
“There's no way that can be your destiny, you just need to meet new friends, you keep staying indoors how will you find a man?” Caleb said.
“Just stop it Caleb, I will see what I can do about that.” I said. Caleb didn't care how I felt, he continued laughing, he was enjoyed seeing me that way. “But you know that's the truth right? you can't deny it, you are going out on a date tonight.” He said.
“You have no idea how busy I am.” I said. “You're just being cruel, well it's none of your business.” I said, trying to deflect.
“It's my business this time around, you're my sister and I want the best for you, so we are going out today.” Caleb said.
“What? Even if I'm going out, you're not coming with me.” I said.
He raised his eyebrows. “Why not?”
“Do you know if I want to get married? Maybe I just want to remain single.” I said.
“I'm sure you're lonely, that's why you want me around, you're not happy.” Caleb said.
“And who told you I'm not happy, I just needed someone to stay with me. That's why I asked you to stay.” I said.
Caleb sighed. “You and I know that isn't true, because the way I'm seeing it, it's just as if you're settling for a lonely life.”
If only Caleb knew how much I was hurting. “I hate you, don't follow me.” I said, entering the kitchen.
I knew I didn't mean the word I said. I don't hate him. I was really scared of being alone, I needed someone by my side. “I’m scared I will never find love, I really don't want to remain like this.”
I didn't know Caleb was standing at the entrance of the kitchen. I knew I had to search for a soulmate this time. But I was still in love with Davis but I'm not sure if he will ever want to have anything to do with me.
I placed my back against the counter as I stood in the kitchen, I felt my world crashing around me. Caleb's words were deep but I knew he was right. I was scared of facing the truth.
I used my palms to clean the tears that pricked at the corner of my eyes. But it flowed down my cheeks, relentless and hot, it was just as if I was drowning in my own despair.
As Caleb moved closer, I shifted to another corner of the kitchen. I didn't want him to console it, pity me, but a part of me desperately needed that. “You don't need to cry sis, I just feel you're isolating yourself, you can't continue like this.”
He placed his hands on my shoulder but I shook him off. “Just let me be Caleb, you're right, and I'm glad you told me the truth.”
But instead of Caleb leaving, he refused, he stood there m, close to me with eyes full of compassion. “I'm with you, you're not alone. This is my time to be here for you, I'm never leaving you.”
I signed. “You don't get it Caleb, I'm not just scared of being alone, what I'm more scared of is never finding someone to love me.”
I guess Caleb didn't know what to say again, he pulled me close, hugging me tightly, even if I tried so hard to resist at first.
“There's someone out there for you, who will love you genuinely.” He said, holding me tight.
I wrapped my arms around him, still having the feeling that I'd never find love. “Just Davis face appeared in mind.” I quickly removed that thought from my mind.
I left the kitchen but Caleb words still echoed in my mind. “Someone out there for me, who loves me genuinely.” That was easy for him to say, he doesn't know anything about loving someone but the person feels nothing for you.
I got into my room, slammed the door behind me, I tried to shut out the pain but it kept following me. I laid on my bed, burrying my face under the pillow. Davis face appeared in my mind again like a ghost, I could see his piercing blue eyes and bright smile. It was hard to get over him.
My phone rang, I didn't know if I should pick that. I hesitated before picking up the phone. “I'm not picking this.” I muttered. But the person kept calling.
I picked the call but there wasno sound at the other end of the call. “Hey, it's Rebbeca.” She finally said.
“Hey, what's up?” I asked.
“I just wanted us to meet, I'm missing you already.” Rebbeca said.
I wondered why she wanted to see me and why she had to call when I was wallowing in my oen misery. But I knew I had to give her a response, I couldn't ignore her.
“So how are you?” She asked.
“I'm just here, not doing great.” I admitted, there was no point lying, I tried to hold back my tears. I really miss my stay with them even if there were times of misunderstanding, fight and querrel.
“When will you be free and where can I meet you?” She asked.
“I'll get back to you about that.” I said.
“How about your house?” She asked.
I sighed. “That's not okay with me.”
“What about the new coffee shop down town?” She made a suggestion since I was against her coming to my house.
“That's better.” I said, I was in support of us meeting there. We made plans that we would be meeting the next day.
As she hung the phone, Caleb walked in. “Hey, how are you feeling now?”
This was the problem with him. He cares about me a lot. I. Smiled. “Yeah, I'm okay.”
“Hope you're not angry with me?” He asked.
“I was but not anymore.” I said, rolling my eyes.
“Really? You were angry with me?” Caleb said, with shock.
He knew I was but he's just so dramatic. I took a deep breath, stood up from my bed and hugged him tightly. “I love you.”
“Oh now I can sleep well.” He said, laughing.
