Chapter 79: Voice to be Heard

Emily's Pov

I sat on my bed unsure of what to do next. Vivian was still disturbing me. “Come on, spill the tea, don't pretend like you don't like that guy.”

I knew I liked him but I didn't want to come between him and Tiffany. “Vician, can we just talk about something else?”

“Nah, I still don't get why you are avoiding this discussion.” Vivian said.

“And what makes you think I'm avoiding this discussion, there's nothing to hide if I liked him.” I said but it was obvious she didn't believe me.

I hesitated for a while before telling Vivian what I felt. I told her all the details from the abrupt ending to the full stop.

Vivian was happily listening to me. “I knew it, I knew he's into you, he's in love with you Emily.”

“But I don't think I want anything more than friendship from him, what will Tiffany do when she finds out. I don't want the school to think I came between them.” I said, rolling my eyes.

“Come on Emily, we both know we tell each other to go for what you want. This is what your heart wants, not what the school wants for you.” Vivian said, tapping me.

I sighed. What if she was really telling the truth? Do I need to accept my feelings for him? While thinking about that my phone buzzed and I saw that it was Mason calling. My heart skipped a bit. “Why is he calling again?” I muttered.

I left the phone ring without picking up. “You have to pick Emily and I want you to go out on a date with him. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” Vivian said, her eyes were sparkling with anticipation.

“Hey.” I said, taking a deep breath. My voice was barely above a whisper.

“About what I said, don't think about that, Tiffany and I are cool. I just wanted to see your reaction.” Mason said.

I couldn't believe him. I was already accepting my feelings and now he's saying this to me. “Well that's fine.” I muttered.

“But can we still meet, let's just hangout, I enjoy your company a lot.” Mason said.

It was just as if I was punched in the guts. One minute when I was trying to accept him and now he's telling me it's nothing but just a test. “Did Tiffany ask you to do this? Really? Do you enjoy my company? You're unbelievable. You should hang out with Tiffany instead. Why do you need me? Oh you think because all the girls are dying to stay around you I will also?” I said, trying to keep my voice steady as much as I could.

“You're overreacting Emily, there's nothing there if we just hangout, I'm in a relationship with Tiffany already. Are you upset because of that?” Mason said.

“Oh so you were just trying to see how I felt huh? Come on, what do you take me for.?” My voice was full of frustration.

“Stop being too hard to get, I will send the address we will meet up with.” He said.

I really don't know what was wrong with Mason. One minute he's being nice, the next minute he's just something else. Something I can't explain.

“I will be expecting you right?” He asked, his voice low and urgent.

I hung off the call and sighed heavily. “Jeez, who does he think he is?”

Vivian was just looking at me, she didn't have a word to say. “I'm sorry Emily, I didn't know that was what he was trying to do.”

I smiled. “What are you sorry for? Come on, forget him.”

Vivian hugged me tightly. I got up from my bed staring at the window. “You know my dad always says, Don't let your feelings for a guy make you look foolish. “I don't need to be the one chasing him, we should have our pride Coming Vivian. Because others are falling for him does not mean we should. The right person is out there looking for us.”

“Exactly, I just feel so bad, why will he think he can do that. He just wanted to see how you feel. You know I feel Tiffany asked him to do this to pay you back for what you did to her.” Vivian said,

“Do you think she asked him to do this?” I smiled. “Then she should be ready for me.”

Vivian laughed. “What are your plans this time?”

“I will make sure I make this school unbearable for her.” I said, rolling my sleeve up.

“I didn't know it was that deep, Mason is… .” She paused. “Well I think we deserve better, we'll teach them both a lesson.”

“So my focus now is to find someone who really deserves a person like me.” I said, taking a deep breath.

“How are you going to do that?” She asked.

I took a deep breath. “That's a good question. I didn't tell you I'm a singer. I've written lots of songs. I will start my music career in school here, I will make sure I bring Mason down, people will no longer look at him but me and as for Tiffany when she sees how un useful he is she will break up with him.”

“O my God, how did you come out with that? I really had no idea you can sing, I saw a book of yours on your bed where you wrote lots of songs but I didn't know you wrote that yourself, I'm really impressed.” Vivian said,

I knew a part of me wanted to confront Mason but I feel there was no need for that. My actions alone will tell it all.

As she said that I felt a sense of determination. “Yeah, I've been writing these songs for years. My passion then was drawing when I lost my mother. I use painting to make me forget about all the sad moments I spent without her, things were getting better then I discovered I had more passion for singing. I pour out how I feel in a book, singing that makes me feel better, it makes me feel my Mother is right here with me.” Tears dropped down my eyes.

“I can only imagine how you had felt, you are really strong Emily, I am proud of you, you went through all of that and yet you created something beautiful.” Vivian said,

“I know right, Music has always been my therapy, when I feel bad I sing to feel better. Music helps me to cope with and heal my emotions and this is what I'm going to use to teach Tiffany and Mason a lesson, they won't mess with me next time.” I felt a sense of relief as I wiped away my tears.

Vivian held my hands. “I can't wait for your music to be heard and you'll be recognized while those dudes will be left in the dust.”

“You know, having a friend like you by my side makes me feel okay, I feel like I can do anything that seems impossible.” I said, smiling.

I was becoming tired of staying indoors. I and Vivian hardly go to events in the school. My focus was just on the Mason event but I won't be going for that anymore.
