Chapter 42: Painful Exit
Rebbeca's Pov
I noticed I had received a message, so I quickly brought out my phone. “It's Davis.”
“What is he saying?” Olivia asked.
“Why didn't you tell me about your mother's surgery?” I read it out loud for Olivia to hear.
“Davis thinks it's a big deal not telling him about this.” Olivia said.
“We should just leave this place, let's go get some air outside.” I said.
We walked to the car and my mind was filled with Olivia's generosity. “Do you love him?”
“Love who?” Olivia asked.
“You know exactly who I'm talking about, Davis of course.”
Olivia smiled. “I don't know, I don't hate him.”
I smiled. “You know you can tell me.”
“There's no point for that, he has a girlfriend already, moreover you have a feeling for him” Olivia said.
I sighed. “I have been in love with Davis since I started working with him but now, I don't think I am.”
The look on Olivia's face showed that she didn't believe what I was saying. “I'm being sincere Olivia.”
“Are you serious? You're not in love with him anymore?” She paused, studying my face.
“Yeah, a lot has changed, I know you love him, do you want to win his heart?” I asked her.
Olivia was surprised, she wanted to open her mouth to speak but it seems the words weren't coming out. “Win his heart? How?” She asked.
“You are doing that already.” I said to her,
“Nah, I don't want to come between him and Lisa, he loves her and she also loves him so they are the perfect match. I don't want to be the reason why they won't be together.” Olivia said.
I held her hands. “I know how much you love Davis, I see the way you look at him and all, are you ready to ignore all of that just because another woman is in love with him? Will you just give up so easily?”
“You're right Rebbeca, I've been trying so hard to ignore the feeling I have for him but it's not working.” Olivia replied.
“That's exactly what I'm talking about, if Davis is the one you love you should fight for that love.” I said, placing my hands on her shoulder.
Olivia's face was filled with determination. “I won't just stand and watch.”
“That's it dear, that's what you should be doing.” I said, Olivia hugged me tightly, “Thanks.” She said,
“Come on, I should be the one saying that to you. You don't need to thank me for anything.”
I was happy that she had finally embraced her feelings. Even without being told I know Davis feels something for Olivia. We all know a part of him belongs to Lisa but some part of him felt a connection with Olivia.
As time went by, Olivia and I became closer to each other. “You know I've been so blind to see how nice you are.”
“I think you were.” Olivia said laughing. With Olivia around I had almost forgotten about the condition of my mother.
Just then, I received a call from the hospital that my mother's condition had worsened. My mood changed immediately. “What's wrong?” Olivia asked.
“I have to go.” I said, in a worried tone.
We rushed into the hospital ward. “I just received a call now that my mother's surgery didn't go well.” I said, crying.
One of the nurses led me to the bed where she was. “Mom…mom.” I screamed rushing towards her, I hugged her. “You can't leave me now mom, not now.”
“How did you get the money for the surgery? I had a dream that you met with your dad.” She said, with a trembling voice.
“I had to mom, I was looking everywhere for the money for your surgery, but Olivia here paid it all for us.” I said, pointing at Olivia.
My mom held Olivia's hands, telling her how grateful she was.
“You don't have to be grateful for anything ma'am, I'm glad I was able to help.” Olivia said.
“Mom, you have to promise me you'll be fine.” I said. I hope everything will be alright.
My mom held my hands. “Can you promise me something?” She asked.
“Sure, what is it mom?” I said.
“Promise me you won't go back to your dad, you deserve all the happiness in the world and I know it's not with your dad.” She said,
“I promise mom, I won't go back to him, he hates me.” I said. “But why are you saying all of this mom, you're here, so why would I ever think of going back to him?”
I turned to see Olivia crying profusely. The second look in my mom's direction she was already lifeless. “Mom, you can't do this to me.” I shouted.
The doctors rushed in. The only thing they could do was sympathize with me, they couldn't bring my mother back to life.
“This can't be happening.” I screamed. “I'm so sorry.” Olivia said, wrapping her arms around me on the floor.
The nurses removed the drips that were connected covering her face with a white cloth.
I cried like never before, the pain that my father was the cause of everything. I wàs angry that my mom was taken away from me.
I laid still on the floor, it was still hard to believe that my mother was gone. I couldn't feel the grip on me as my heart was only filled with grief.
I freed myself from Olivia's grip, I scanned round the hospital looking for whom to blame.
Just then, my father walked in, he stood at the doorway, his eyes were filled with guilt.
“You, you caused all this, you're the reason she's dead, you shattered her heart into pieces, she wanted you to love her just the way she loved you but what did you do?” I hit him on his chest.
“No daughter, it wasn't my fault.” He said,
I felt like strangling him at that moment.
