Chapter 96: The Unexpected Turn
Olivia Pov
It was morning, makeup was already applied on my face by my personal makeup artist. I looked at the mirror as I took a deep breath. “I don't think Davis is gonna recognize me.” I said, which made the people in the room laugh out loud. My hairstyle was perfect as it was styled perfectly and the makeup was indeed flawless. I felt I was a princess who was ready to start a new beginning.
Emily was my only bridesmaid, she walked into the room as I stood up. She beamed with excitement. “Oh my God, you're looking stunning!” she exclaimed while she helped me to adjust my veil.
There was a broad smile on my face. I felt a mix of happiness and emotions and then I was nervous. It was a big step I was walking into. “Thank you.” I said, smiling. “I'm a little bit nervous.”
My maid of honor Rebbeca gave me a reassuring hug as she walked in. She was looking so beautiful. “You're amazing Olivia. Davis really loves you, you're all he's talking about now.”
I took a deep breath as I nodded my head. It was our day and we were starting a new life.
My phone rang. It was Dave calling. “Hey, my love, I really can't wait to watch you as you walk down the aisle.”
I felt my heart flutter as I smiled. “I also can't wait to see you.”
I hung up the call. I felt a sense of calm. It was going to be a perfect day.
Davis' mother walked into the room. Tears were rolling down her cheeks. “You look so tense.” She said..
I knew I was tense.
“You are looking beautiful.” She said,
“Thanks mom, I'm just nervous,” I said, feeling a lump form in my throat.
“It's okay for you to be nervous but I'm sure you know you and Davis are meant for each other, I know everything you both I've been through. You both are just perfect for each other.” Dave's mom said, hugging me.
I felt a sense of reassurance when she did that.
Not long after, the wedding planner walked in. “Alright, ladies, the ceremony will start soon and I think it's time to get into position.”
I took one last look in the mirror. I could feel my heart skip.
Davis was standing in the altar as I walked down the aisle. He was beaming with joy. When I got to the Altar there was a commotion. A man stood up. I didn't know who it was at first till I realized it was Marcus. “What is he doing here?” I muttered. Marcus was looking frantic.
“There's no way I'm letting you both get married.” He said,in a firm voice.
Everyone's gaze was fixed on him.
As I heard what he said my heart sank. Dave held me tightly. Davis' face was filled with confusion and shook.
“Why is Marcus doing this?” He whispered to me.
Just as I was about saying something, Marcus stepped forward.
“There's something I have to say.” Marcus said. His voice was echoing through the walls of the church. Everywhere was silent.
Davis held me as we waited for what Marcus was about to say.
“This lady here is fake, she kept a secret from Davis and all of us. This lady and I have a history together.”
I was confused. I didn't understand what Marcus was talking about.
“Olivia and I were once business partners. But everything went sore when she betrayed me. She stole from me while ruining my reputation. So if you guys love Davis here and want the best for him I think this marriage should be called off.”
The church was filled with chaos. Everyone erupted into whispers and gasps. “Is she really capable of doing such a thing? How true is this?” I heard someone say this.
My face turned white. “I know that's not true Olivia, this guy is just trying to ruin our happiness.” Davis said.
Marcus heard what he had said. He smiled. “I can’t let you get married to him and get away with this.” Marcus said.
I really don't know what Marcus was trying to do. But I'm sure I won't let him ruin my life this way. I don't know the proof he has so I thought he should show the church the proof.
When he was about to bring out a fake proof. The police men walked in arresting Marcus. “We're so sorry, he's a criminal.” The officer said.
Dave and I finally exchanged our vows. I saw Emily from the crowd. She smiled, giving me a thumbs up. Our wedding day was almost ruined.
After the wedding was over, the party started and we all had fun. I fixed my gaze on Emily as she danced with her cousins. Rachel and Joanna with the boys. They were all happy. I also saw Davis' parents . They were looking happy as they kissed each other shyly.
We didn't wait to pull our dress after the wedding as we rushed to the hospital. We were now tinged with a sense of responsibility.
Our attire was still on, as we walked in all gaze were fixed on us. When we got to the qICU the workers greeted us, while some took pictures. “Congratulations on your wedding, it's the talk of the town.” Ms. Thompson said.
“Yeah, I heard you were going to take responsibility for the little girl but I'm afraid to tell you that her condition is more complicated than we thought.” Ms. Thompson said.
Thompson explained that she was conscious for a while and she asked her for her name. “Her name is Sophia, she has severe injuries and she's still in a critical condition now.”
“But she will be fine right?” I asked, with a trembling voice.
“I don't know for now, there is a possibility she might survive but there's also a possibility that her brain will be damaged.” Ms. Thompson said.
I couldn't believe my ears. Davis looked at me. This wasn't a time for us to turn our back on Sophia. Our honeymoon can wait. We can travel for it after Sophia recovers.
“So what are we to do now?” I said in a calm voice.
“For now I think you both should apply for the custody of the little girl, for her care.” Ms. Thompson said. It was a whole lot to take.
We left the hospital, walking back to our car. Davis was surprised to see tears streaming down my face. “The little girl might have brain damage. I'm not sure I'm ready for this.” I muttered.
Davis held my hand. “Don't worry, you don't have to ruin our day with those tears, okay.” He said, trying to reassure me.
We drove out of the hospital, I had the feeling that our lives were going to have a drastic turn.
As we headed home I felt like our perfect day had turned upside down.
As we got home we put on a brace face. Nobody knew at home about our plan to adopt Sophia in. We tried all we could to pretend that everything was fine.
But the thought of how Little Sophia was in the coma filled my mind. Davis sensed my unease so he held my hands tightly.
