Chapter 64: The Investigation

Davis Pov

“Dad, I want to tell you something.” Emily said.

“What's that?” I asked.

Emily smiled. “It's about Olivia, I've forgiven her, she was here two days ago and we agreed that she'd be coming to see me every weekend but she says she won't come if she doesn't get permission from you.”

“If I'm not mistaken, you were angry with her, why the sudden change of mind?” I was taken aback by her words.

“I don't know Dad, good people deserve a second chance.” Emily said.

“But why didn't you tell me about this before?” I asked.

“I didn't know how you were going to react to this. I begged her to move in and go to work from here but she refused.” Emily said, frowning her face.

I laughed, “You really said that to her.”

“So what are you saying Dad?”

I was okay with Emily's idea since that's what she wanted. “Alright Kiddo, I will talk to her and she will come see you every weekend.” But I thought.m, don't Olivia have other things to do during weekends? Why will she agree with Emily to come see her every weekend?

“Thanks Alot Dad.” Emily grinned, jumping happily.

I watched as Emily jumped happily. I wondered what Olivia had said to Emily that made her change her mind. I decided to call Olivia. “How are you doing, Emily told me about your plans to visit every weekend.”

“Yeah, I promised to come see her every weekend only if you were in support of it.” Olivia said.

“Why did you agree to do that? You have lots of work to do. How is the Investigation going?” I asked.

“We are still on it sir and as for me coming every weekend to see Emily, I'm okay with that, since that is what she wants.” Olivia said.

“Thanks for doing this for me and Emily.” I muttered.

“Don't mention, I enjoy doing it, I want to be a part of her life, I do care about her, I know I messed up, I wronged you but I hope you don't judge me, I had no choice.” Olivia said.

But I didn't want to talk about that so I brought up something else. “Did you see the prosecutor?”

Olivia hesitated before answering. “Yeah, I did, he came over yesterday.”

There was a pause In her voice when I asked if she saw the prosecutor. “Did he say anything to you?”

“Nah, we are working together, if we find anything, I will make sure I let you know or Edward will let you know himself.” Olivia said.

“Alright dear, if there's anything let me know but I trust Edward, you'll enjoy working with him.” I knew she wasn't saying something but I didn't want to push her to say anything.

“Yeah, he's a good person.” Olivia said.

“So what are your plans in spending the weekend with Emily, remember she's not going to leave this house.” I said.

“I haven't forgotten about that sir, we will just do lots of fun things, play games and more.” She said,

I knew I wanted more than that for Emily, I wanted her to see places but I couldn't risk it.

“But why don't you let me take her for Hiking?” Olivia said, as her tone brightened up.


Olivia's Pov

“I wish she can but don't dare take her out, I told you this before now, you don't listen.” Davis said, shouting at me over the phone.

He ended the call immediately after that.

I sighed. “Shhhh, he's just so rude and proud.”

“Who's proud?” Caleb asked.

“That Davis called a guy, he acts the way he wants.” I said.

“Just forget about that guy, let's focus on this case and when you're done, you are cutting off from him.” Caleb said.

“But I will be going to Davis mansion every weekend just for Emily. I promised her.”

“What did I just hear?” Caleb said.

“I'm sure you heard me right.” I replied.

Caleb was shocked. “What is wrong with you Olivia? You don't listen to me, what are you getting yourself into.”

“I know exactly how hard it is, but I promised Emily and it won't be nice for me to break that promise. I'm not doing this for Davis, it's all for Emily's sake
“ I shrugged.

“I don't have a problem with that, I just want you to be careful, Lucy died because she got married to that man, I won't want to lose anyone again and moreover it's hard to believe Davis can forgive you that easily.” he said, rubbing his temples.

I agreed with Caleb, i knew he was right, I need to be careful. “You care about me a lot and I appreciate that, but don't forget your have a noisy fianceé to deal with.”

He laughed out loud. “You just reminded me of my pain.”

“It happens that way.” I signed.

Caleb asked me to promise him I'd me careful, he's scared, he doesn't want me around Davis or anything that belongs to him. “We already have the suspects for the case why don't we start working out on it?”

“I'm waiting for my partner, he hasn't arrived yet.” I said,

“That man is damn not serious.” Caleb said. “I can't just wait for you to be done with this case, Lucy death is still a shock to me, you're potentially in a dangerous situation just as she had been.”

“Remember I told you I'm doing this for Emily not just for Davis, I will be fine you don't need to worry.” Just as I finished my statement, the doorbell rang. “Who's that?”


I walked towards the door, “Hey Edward, you're late.”

“Yes I should be late, I don't knywhy you choose to work on your house instead of the office.” He said.

“Don't talk like you don't know why we're handling, this is a serious case, we don't need to let anyone know we are taking this case serious.” I muttered.

Edward walked in. “So why do you choose to work in your house instead?”

I hissed, sitting on the couch. To my surprise Caleb didn't say a word to him, he just stared at him from head to toe.

“This was the same person that was confessing his feelings yesterday, if anyone had told me you will behave like this after that I wouldn't have believed.” Caleb said.

Edward tired to brush off what Caleb was saying, I had no idea Caleb knew he asked me out on a date. “You were eavesdropping?”

“Of course, I couldn't just watch you leave with this guy outside alone, I didnt know what he was going to do next, but why was he pouring his heart to you yesterday and he's acting differently today” Caleb voice was dripping in sarcasm.

I watched the two men, Edward tried to regain composure even if he was taken aback by Caleb's words.

“I was only trying to do….”

Caleb didn't want to hear anything from him. “Never mind, But Sis, why did you turn him down like that?”

I didn't know when a laughed out. “That's enough Caleb.” I knew Edward was already boiling with anger, he was looking like he had already been slapped, but I did t care even if I saw the hurt in his eyes.
