Chapter 9: Killer in our midst
Olivia's Pov
The sun shines brightly on the school yard. I made my way through the crowd of anxious parents and chattering children. I had arrived at the school to pick Emily up.
I couldn't find Emily in her class. I asked about her from her school teacher but she wasn't seen by any. I scanned the school area searching for the bright blue eyes or curly black hair.
Still looking round I spotted Emily standing close to a swing, she was obviously moody. I got closer to her, it seemed her attention was far away because she didn't notice my presence.
I sat next to her. “It's time to go sweetie.” I tapped her so I could get her attention. She turned to me, her eyes full of sadness. “Nanny. Olivia, school was boring and frustrating.”
I hugged her tight. “It's like this sometimes.” We walked to the parking lot, I saw a figure watching us but when he noticed that I had seen who it was he disappeared into the thin air. “Did you see anything?” I asked Emily to be sure she didn't notice the strange encounter.
“I didn't see anything.” She replied. “It's just that I feel someone has been watching me, I couldn't see who the person was.”
Emily is a sharp girl. “Yes, let's go home, you've been thinking alot lately. It's nothing.” I said, trying to reassure her.
We drove away from the school, I looked at the rearview mirror every second of we were being followed.
Emily looked up. “Why did that man leave in a hurry after seeing you? I noticed him while I was sitting down close to the swing.”
“I thought you said you didn't see anyone.” I rolled my eyes. I knew I needed to just drive fast and get home. “Let's go home and relax, we'll talk about it when we get home.” my mind skipped as I realized Emily had seen the person.
“The man I saw looks exactly like the man who was trying to capture me in the house, I'll tell father when I get home.” Emily said.
I had to accept the fact that she also saw the man. What I wanted at that time was to get home safely.
I sighed as the driver pulled into the driveway, leading us home. As we got out of the car. The driver had told us to wait inside the car while he went into the house to check what was going on. I decided to find out for myself.
As I held Emily's hand I could see the fear in her. “Something seems wrong.” She said, pointing to the blood in the ground.
“Oh my God.” I screamed, pulling her closer to me.
“Let's get inside.” I said, we got close to the door, I pushed the door open only to find a dead man on the couch. It was one of the bodyguards.
Maria came down quickly taking Emily to her room. This was becoming more confusing. Not quite long, Davis came back with his secretary, he was also shocked when he saw the dead body on the couch.
Devis Pov
I quickly remembered I had kept a hidden camera. I went straight to my room, closing the door behind me. I pulled out my laptop. It was surprising that no one came into the house, “so how is it possible that one of my bodyguards was found on top of my couch.”
I rushed outside to meet the rest of the household who were in shock. I looked at their faces. I adjusted my tie. “The killer is in this room.”
Everyone turned to each other. “What do you mean the killer is here?” Olivia said.
“Who could it be then?” His secretary asked.
I sighed. “I don't know for now. But I'm certain that nobody entered this house, the killer is someone amongst us.”
“Could it be that this is a setup?” Olivia asked.
“Obviously and we need to get hold of the killer.”
“Do you think the involvement of the police is necessary?” Rebecca said.
“Where were you when all of this happened Olivia?” I directed the question to her.
“I had gone to pick Emily from school but….” She paused.
“But what?” I asked.
“Emily has told me a man was looking at her while she was waiting for me to pick her up and when I got closer to Emily I cited the person, though still on mask,”
“Around what time was that?” I asked.
“It should be around, Twelve In the day time. ” Olivia said. “The killer must have known I was leaving the house at that time.”
“Twelve? Wow” I turned to Rebecca. You left the office at Eleven telling me you wanted to get something but you didn't come back until it was thirty minutes past twelve.” I said, looking suspicious.
“Sir I really went to get something, It was because of traffic that was why I wasn't able to come back on time.” She said, I wasn't sure she was telling the truth.
I turned to the bodyguard. “And you two where were you guys the whole time?”
I asked all the workers in the house but everyone denied it. “I wasn't expecting the killer to confess now.” I muttered.
As I was about to leave the living room Emily ran down the stairs crying. “Dad I saw blood on the entrance.” I knew Emily was a brave girl but I never wanted her to witness anything like this while growing up.
I rushed to confront her. “Where did you see the blood?” I asked.
“I saw it on the entrance door, close to the front door.” She said, I exchanged a worried glance with Olivia. I was really worried about Emily. Now I'm not sure if this is Vincent doing or someone else.
“Olivia, take her with you upstairs,” I turned to Emily. “You don't need to see anything anymore, we're taking care of it.”
Emily nodded as Olivia took her to her room. “We need to involve the police in this, this is now a crime scene and no longer a suspicious situation.”
Rebecca nodded in agreement.
