Chapter 39: Fear of survival

Rebecca's Pov

I hesitated for a while before dialing my father's number. I wasn't sure if I should call and ask him for the money for my mother's surgery. My finger kept hovering over the dial button. I had to do that since I knew my mother's health was at stake, I was ready to do anything to get the money needed.

I took a deep breath before finally dialing the number. The phone rang and I was scared of what he was going to say.

“Hello.” He finally said. It was good to hear his familiar voice again.

“Can we meet and talk about something important?” I asked.

“Now?” He said

“Yes Dad, right now.” I said.

“You can come to the office.” He said, his tone filled with curiosity.

As I hung off the phone, my heart raced with anticipation wondering what he was going to say if I asked for the money.

I got to the office building, my heart still racing with anticipation. I walked into the company. It's been a long time since I saw my father,so I wondered what he'd look like now.

I pushed open the door after taking a deep breath. As soon as I opened the door, my dad looked away from his desk, his eyes fixed on my appearance. “You look messed, is everything alright?” he asked.

“I'm not fine as you can see, mom needs a surgery, the surgery is tomorrow and I need you to help us with the money.” I said, as the words tumbled down.

The look on my father's face was unreadable. “How much do they need for the surgery?” He asked.

I hesitated before revealing the amount of money needed to him. “$70,000,000.” I managed to say.

“That's a lot of money. Where do you expect me to get that from?” He said.

“Dad I know you have the money, even if you have nothing to do with her again, can't you just save her life, this is the same woman you once loved.” I said, tears streaming down my cheeks. “I wouldn't have come to you if I could afford it.”

“My dear, I told you to work for me in this company but you decided to follow your mother, that bitch and now you're running back to me for help, do you expect me to listen to you?” My dad said, there wasn't a hint of sympathy on his face.

Tears welled up from my eyes but I refused to let them fall. “What do you want me to do, anything at all? I'll do it, just help me save the life of my mother.”

“That's okay by me then, Anything?” He asked.

I knew I had to do anything to save my mothers life. “I'll give you the chance to prove that you can do anything to save the life of that bitch you call mother.”

“Come on dad, she's dying, why do you keep calling her bitch “ I said.

“The deal is that you'll come back to me immediately after your mother recovers from the surgery.” He said.

“Come back to you? I can't just leave my work, I can't leave mom, because of you.” I said.

“Then you should go find someone else to give you the money to save your mother's life.” My Dad said.

My Dad was so heartless. I hated him for that. I left his office angrily without saying a word to him.
“How does he expect me to leave the life I've built for years and come back to him.” I muttered. The thought of leaving all of that for him was unbearable.

I sat on a bench as I tried to find a solution, I can't lose my mother just yet, I need to save her. There was no clear way out for me, I was confused.

My father was just looking for someone to be a pawn in his game of greed and power. “I'm a daughter of a ruthless businessman.” I muttered.

I got into a bar. I needed to drink something to calm myself. I sat alone at the bar, I drank as much as I could, I forgot my troubles for a moment.

A young man walked up to me, “Hey, aren't you Holland's daughter, why are you drinking?”

I spat on his clothes. “You should mind your business.”

I thought the young man would leave as I did that but he used a tissue to clean that off his clothes. “Don't be harsh.” He said, “I saw you earlier today in your dad's office and here you are drinking, is everything alright?”

I waved my hands, I gave him a slap. “I told you to let me be.”

I turned to face the person who has been trying to calm me down. “Who are you?” I asked.

“I'm someone who knows you, you're beautiful, I've always wanted to talk to you, when I saw you at your father's office I knew something was wrong and now you're here in the bar, alone drunk.” He said.

“You don't need to know what is wrong with me.” I said, laughing.

For a moment everything was blank.

After a while, I saw myself in a mansion. I was in a bedroom with my clothes off. “Where am I?” I screamed, getting up from the bed.

I tried to remember the last person I had spoken with, “Oh my God, I was drunk, but what I'm I doing here?”

The young man I had met in the bar walked into the room. “Hey pretty, you're up.” he walked in smiling. I was boiling inside of me.

“What did you do? You had sex with me?” I said.

“You weren't at the state to take care of yourself last night so I had to bring you here and I made you feel better.” He said.

“By sleeping with me? Are you in your right senses, I'll make sure I sue you for this.” I said angrily as I put on my clothes.

He dropped a huge sum of money on the bed. “Take care of your mom with this.”

I rejected the money. I quickly drove to the hospital with no hope of paying for my mother's surgery.
