September 3rd Pt. 2

“Hi Colton, do you remember me?”
She starts cautiously. He stops his pacing and looks up from the ground.
“Luna Arianna.”
His whisper is barely captured by the microphones in the room.
“Yes sir. It seems that you’re struggling. Will you let me come close to you?”
He nods slowly as if he’s uncertain about her involvement with him.
“I won’t hurt you. Can you tell me what’s going on?”
He shakes his head.
“Stay where you are. I’ll come to you.”
He shakes his head again.
“Please don’t. I’m dangerous.”
“Who told you that nonsense?”
Just as Cole tries to answer, several people burst into the room followed by Deven holding a phone. I quickly switch off the two way speaker.
“What are you doing here? Why is she in there? Don’t you know how dangerous he is? Get her out now!”
A female in a white lab coat spits quickly as she moves towards the door.
“No ma’am. You will leave them be.”
My aura is furious as I now know who’s convinced him so easily that he is what he’s never been.
“You will stand and watch. Who is on the phone?”
“Alpha Demetri Black and who might you be?”
“Alpha Cassius Marcellus.”
I barely hold my tone as I’m drawn to what my mate is doing.
“Are you formal or informal?”
“Informal is preferable.”
“You sound distant is everything okay.”
“Cole needs to return to me before returning to you. He has a connection with me and the Shadowlands pack. You don’t see what I’m seeing.”
I can hear him sigh over the phone.
“Actually I do, Cassius. Deven has me on FaceTime. Who’s the lady?”
“My mate. I’m turning on the speaker again. Stay quiet.”
I hit the button on the wall as Arianna continues to encourage Cole to touch her.
“Please Luna. I’m not properly dressed. You shouldn’t be in here when I only have underwear on.”
“I’m aware of how you’re dressed Cole but I need this from you. Let yourself touch me. I understand the awkwardness of it but I promise there’s no trouble here.”
He shakes his head, trying to step away but refusing to use any force to escape the grip she has on his hands.
“Your mate, my mate, they will be angry. I can’t handle the wrath of the alpha.”
He’s struggling hard with her involvement.
“Please Cole. Cassius told me about what little he was able to find out about you and the pack, the life you’re desperately running from. I understand the lack of trust but that’s what I need from you. The touch I’m encouraging will calm you, allow you to connect back to reality. It’s easy to see your struggle between past and present. Connect with me. You’re not going to hurt me and it’s not sexual.”
Something about her reassurance relaxes him, allowing her to place his fingers on the right side of her belly. He remains there with her hand on top of his for several seconds before his breathing stops and he looks up at her face.
“Breathe Cole. Nothing is wrong here.”
It takes several more seconds before he lets his breath go and pants to catch up with the time he wasn’t. It’s as he slows into a normal pattern that she speaks again.
“I need you to follow me Cole.”
For the first time he nods in agreement.
“Keep your hands where you can feel one of our twins moving around. You can move to stay with them if you wish. Cass told me that you’re a protector and you showed us that when it came to Clayton. You fought Beta Braysen when he was doing wrong in a very battered state and I can only imagine that you would be the same way towards a pregnant woman. I have nothing to fear from you.”
“No ma’am. I would die to protect you. The same as your mate.”
I cock my head as that was a very unexpected response.
“I know you would, which is why I’m the best one to ask the hurtful questions.”
“No. Please Luna. Don’t hurt me.” He whispers with a waver in his voice.
“I’m sorry, Cole. I’m going to let go of your hands and place them in your head. I’m going to guide you towards me. Follow my movements. It’s a little strange but I feel it will help you stay grounded as you talk.”
She does exactly as she describes, pulling him towards her until his forehead touches the top of hers.
“Please Luna. Don’t hurt me.”
“We need to know what’s going on. What happened after Martin got you here to Bluetail?”
“The nightmares changed.”
“Can you tell me more? Tell me about the nightmares.”
I’m surprised both by her technique and his response to it.
“I can’t hurt you like that.”
“You’re very sweet to be concerned but I promise I can handle it. We understand that getting so close to being whipped is terrifying and devastating but it didn’t happen. Martin and the council got to you before the first strike.”
“You don’t understand Luna. It did happen.”
“No Cole, I don’t understand. Purple Mountain was stopped. Please. Help me understand.”
“Purple mountain didn’t do it, someone else, a long time ago. I have no memory of it happening but everything that happened at Purple Mountain; getting beat before getting chained, the gathering of people, the announcement of what I did wrong and what I was sentenced to. It was all familiar. It all happened before. Everyone that has seen my back has commented on how it was an old scar compared to my young age. It happened in my teens, I was still just a pup. Yet I was so bad, so dangerous that someone took a whip to me. You shouldn’t be near me. If anything I should be put down, gotten rid of if I’m so dangerous that I deserved the whip in my teens.”
“I don’t believe that, Cole.” I press the button turning off the two way speaker.
“Is that why you have him on a psychiatric hold, you believe he’s suicidal?”
I take a break and ask the others in the room.
“What else could that mean?”
She spits back, frustrated with my control of the situation.
“I don’t know how you normally address Alpha Martin, but you will express respect towards me. I didn’t address it the first time but it will not go to a third.”
She growls lowly but otherwise remains silent.
“Cole doesn’t have a clear memory of what has happened to him. His function is based largely upon instinct and familiarity. For him to believe so strongly that he was whipped even though the details are lost likely means that it happened.” I speak to the group again. “While Alpha Martin and his medical team mean well it’s obvious they don’t have the psychiatric experience that Cole is in need of. Alpha Demetri, I would highly recommend that he gets transferred immediately to either my pack or yours.” I make my opinion clear.
“Yes, sir. I’m inclined to agree but considering he has run twice in an effort to find me, I think it’s time to involve him in the decision. There is a test that I would like to do first. Are you willing to take the phone into the room with you?”
“Yes sir.”
“I need you to take over comforting him. He would suffer immensely if he accidentally hurt your pregnant Luna.” I nod my head not thinking if he can see me.
“Shall we head inside?”
I glance over at Deven as he nods his head. Without waiting for Alpha Martin or his doctor I walk to the door and walk into the room.
