Monday, November 26th Pt. 2
“I’m sorry Jeremy.”
My voice has deepened on account of my partial shift scaring him even further.
“I promise I won’t hurt you. My voice and eyes may have changed but my teeth and hands remain the same.”
I smile at him briefly showing my lack of fangs before showing him my hands, which get larger in a partial shift versus smaller during a full shift.
I reach my arms out to him, inviting him to come closer.
“I allowed him to come forward in the hopes of comforting you.”
I try to explain softly. He nods his head but doesn’t move from where he stands.
“I’d like to pick you up. Is that okay?”
I try again to gain a little of his confidence despite his obvious fear of me. I stand and move slowly the few feet we have between us. I wrap my hands around his chest, under his arms but pause before lifting him, giving him a chance to protest the action. I lift him easily, bringing him to my chest as he finally realizes what’s happening. His screams are filled with pain and fear as I try to calm him. I position him close to my neck as I gently restrain his frantic movements. It’s only as he calms that he caves into his wolf’s instincts, wrapping his arms around me, he balls the fabric of my shirt into his tiny fists and weeps softly against my neck.
“That’s a good boy, Jeremy. I’m not going to hurt you.” I whisper as I hold him.
It’s as I head towards the room he came from that a female in a white coat steps out of the nurse’s station.
“Who are you and of what relation are you to this child?”
Her smug attitude cuts through me deeply.
“I am Alpha Demetri Black. I am the one that contacted Alpha Andrew White and requested immediate admittance to the hospital under Operation Underground. He assured me that Jeremy would receive the best care available but based on his lack of just an IV I believe his parents to be truthful in their complaint that nothing has happened. Now do you wish to continue challenging me out here or shall we continue this conversation of negligence in his room.”
It’s not at all surprising when she takes a step back. It’s obvious that she’s rethinking whatever it is she wanted to say.
“Alpha?” Jeremy’s voice is weak as his body continues to shake within my hold.
“Talk to me, little man. I’m a very good listener.”
I keep my voice soft and encouraging, compensating for the deepness my partial shift has caused while I rub his back.
“I’m sorry I’m a baby. It hurts. I need the bathroom but it hurts to go. I feel sick but it hurts to get sick. I’m sorry, alpha. So, so …”
“No Jeremy.” I silence the pup gently. “You have no reason to apologize.”
I move my hand to his head as he whimpers softly. Entering his room I see two nurses nonchalantly setting up a catheter kit.
“What are you planning to do?” I ask as I turn to face the doctor.
“His parents reported blood in his urine but we’ve been unable to get any from him.”
“Why don’t they have one for a child? That’s for a full grown man.”
I’m shocked that they wouldn’t know the difference.
“This is a child’s kit. Who are you to question what we’re using?”
One of the nurse’s surly attitudes is getting to me quickly.
“I am Alpha Demetri Black. I’m also a doctor but I’m no longer licensed. For the first three years that I was alpha of the Crimson Dawn pack I tried to do both but found myself unable to be the father I wanted to be. Now, this little boy has a need he needs to take care of and I need a sterile cup if you want that sample.”
I’m aggravated but understand what the increasing wiggling of the little guy in my arms means. It takes them longer than I would have liked but I finally get the cup and carry the lad into the bathroom and lock the door.
“Alright, Jeremy.”
I speak as I slowly lower him to the floor. I wait until I’m certain he has his footing before letting him go.
It’s as I start loosening my hold that I feel him tremble. I back up slightly as I kneel in front of him. His breathing is as stiff as his body alerting me to his growing anxiety.
“Let’s adjust this gown so it’s not as long.”
I move slowly as I take the sides of his gown in my hands.
“No!!!”
He screams as he shoves my hands away. He backs away slowly until he hits the wall, horror and pain contort his face as he starts to cry.
“What’s wrong my young son?” I ask softly.
“He…. He….” The young man struggles just to get the words out. “He took my clothes. He locked me in with Kristoph.”
He breaks down completely, hugging himself close as he desperately tries to disappear into the wall he’s leaning on.
“I’m sorry Jeremy. I know being a complete stranger makes this so much harder after your own alpha hurt you so badly. I promise you, I will not hurt you. I just want to lift and tie your gown so you don’t have to hold it and the cup at the same time. Come to me. It’s okay.”
He shakes his head as he attempts to back away from my outstretched arms. I can tell by the smell that the room was thoroughly cleaned only a few hours ago so I decide to take my chances and sit completely down, crossing my legs as I attempt to make myself look less intimidating.
“What do you know about me? About Alpha Dr. Black of the Crimson Dawn pack?”
He shakes his head again.
“You’ve never heard of me?”
I try again. He shakes his head again. He’s relaxed enough to no longer huddle against the wall but he’s yet to come near me.
“What about Alpha Redmen? I know he’s your alpha but do you know if he’s also a doctor?”
I take my chances in scaring him in the hopes that the comparison might help relax him again. He shakes his head again.
“What about doctors? I know your parents have taken you to the doctor when you were sick or hurt.” Finally a nod.
“I want to play a game with you. I’d like to ask you yes or no questions and every time it’s a yes you step towards me, when it’s a no you stay where you are.”
Despite his absolute terror of being in the bathroom by himself with me he steps forward.
“Good boy.” I smile gently.
“Do you still need to use the bathroom?” A step forward.
“Are you afraid to go?” Another step.
I knew his answers to those so I’m not surprised. This next one is unknown to me.
“Would you like my help?”
