Monday, May 13th Pt. 6
The file was nearly a year old and had a lot of pictures included. He had been hit dozens of times with the buckle end of a silver lined belt. He had an extensive second degree burn on his left thigh that had been allowed to become infected and he had evidence of being injected with multiple drugs. Alpha Black ended up putting him in the ICU for a week when it was discovered that he had both silver and blood poisoning.
When she went through the evidence given for the ferality trial the first thing she noticed was that the submitting alpha included a lot of very grainy black and white photographs of the rape of children by what was obviously an adult. Upon closer inspection she was able to tell about a dozen photos were garbage as they held the telltale signs of being photoshopped. She didn’t throw them away though. She wants them as a different type of evidence. Once those were sorted out about a dozen of the pictures contained the same individual and there were a good handful or two that were of different men. None of those pictures matched the picture and physical profile of the individual being accused of some very horrific crimes.”
“You’re telling me that the case is an obvious forgery?” I can’t believe what I’m hearing.
“Not exactly.”
Marcy shakes her head as we all hear the sickening pops of multiple bones shifting back into place. The room falls completely silent as Aaron stops the traction device from going any further and turns on the fluoroscope. He goes through a brief lesson, asking a variety of questions about Colton’s wrist. Several students were able to point out there are three fractured carpal bones and two more on the ends of both arm bones, classic evidence of him being in a fight.
“Would these fractures show up on standard X-rays?” I can’t help but ask.
“No.” I’m surprised yet relieved that the previous hospital may not have purposely neglected his arm.
“I’ll send the disk home with Dr. Leroux so he can show you the difference. I believe that the collapse of his wrist likely hid the fractures. I will need to run him through the mri to find out if he has any ligaments or tendons torn. Jordan you’re doing the cast, above the elbow to his wrist.”
The young lad steps forward and immediately starts instructing Aaron on what he needs. It appears the biggest challenge is maintaining the position his wrist is in while releasing it from traction to get several cloth sleeves over his arm. After a few brief minutes Jordan is situated and his cast is slowly being created with layers of cotton, gauze and plaster.
“Marcy, when I asked about the application being forged you said ‘not exactly’. Why doesn’t she think it’s forged?”
“The alpha submitting the application definitely falsified the evidence but all she would tell me is that over half the pictures are real. These kids are being raped by members of the pack and the alpha knows about it.”
“Did she indicate what her plans were?”
“I don’t ask questions when it comes to the different cases she encounters. I’ve been her confidant for a long time and I’ve learned to let her come to me. She did say that she would be pushing the case forward as every note she found from previous members that had reviewed it said the same thing. This is beyond the council’s enforcement. The committee needs to be involved in removing this alpha from power.”
“Did she say anything else?”
I press as I know our time together is coming to a close.
“She told me that she spoke with Alpha Black and after her conversation with him she believes that the he-wolf that’s being abused is trying to protect these kids from the nightmare their pack has become. She believes that he has information that will help remove this alpha from power and, for his protection, he needs to be removed as quickly as possible. Although it’s rare, she hopes to convince everyone involved to reunite him with Alpha Black. His pack has already gotten to know him. He trusts them.”
I nod as the session concludes. I became so engrossed with the conversation that I didn’t realize that most of the students had already left.
“Cass, Cody’s school called Sheila. There was an accident on the playground and he hit his head. I’ve got to go.”
“Yes, of course.” I agree immediately.
He closes the laptop, leaving it on the table near the door as he quickly leaves the room.
“We still have an hour before we hit Dr. Leroux’s two hour limit. I’d like to put him in the multi scanner. He needs an mri on his wrist. I can get it set up so we can do multiple areas. If he was involved in a life threatening battle four weeks ago and has a dormant wolf then he’s going to heal like a human which means we will be able to pick up fractures and tears that are still healing.”
“Yes sir. I think that’s a good idea if it’s immediately available.”
“I can reverse the anesthesia and give him Valium instead.” He offers an alternative.
“No. Considering his level of fear, keeping him asleep is better as long as his breathing isn’t compromised.”
“He’s doing very well breathing on his own so I think he’ll be safe during the scan. Let me make a call.”
“Yes sir.”
I agree as he heads to the door picking up the phone hanging on the wall beside it. I walk over to Colton until I’m beside the bed. For the first time since I met him he appears relaxed and without pain or fear. I glance over at Jordan’s finished work. The cast is a solid piece from the palm of his hand to about three inches above his elbow. Only his fingers and thumb can be seen. I smile as I lift the cloth of the sling. Jordan chose a multi-colored blue plaster for the outside of the cast. For reasons I can’t explain, I lift the sheet revealing his left leg. Half way between his hip and knee there’s an obvious scar, about an inch wide that appears to circle his thigh. I shake my head. There’s no way.
“Marcy?”
“Yes sir.” She stops her walk towards the door.
“Did your mom mention anything about his character? Perhaps something Alpha Black told her about him.”
“He’s a protector. She mentioned that Alpha Black inquired as to what it would take to register him with the council as a protector.”
“Similar to how empaths and intuitives are tested and registered.”
“Yes sir.”
“That’s good to know Marcy, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” She nods as Aaron returns with two hospital workers.
“They are going to help move him down the hall for the scan. I was able to set up mri’s on his head, neck, left wrist, both shoulders, chest and spine.”
I pause as I’m shocked to hear so many.
“Are you certain the machine is capable?”
“The one that’s available right now on this floor has the newest technology. It will run all of those at the same time. We may go over the two hour mark but that’s only because of moving him and setting him up. I’m bringing the reversal for propofol with us so I can reverse the anesthesia as soon as he comes out of the machine.”
The hospital aides have Colton out the door by the time he finishes explaining his plan. I promised the lad he wouldn’t be left alone so I hurry to gather my laptop into my bag and follow them down the hall.
