Monday, April 15th Pt. 3
“Stay with me, Cole.” Andre hisses as I collapse back against him.
“Amos, are the locks off.”
“Yes, I just haven’t removed the cuff with the needles in it.”
“Oliver and Ashley, I need the two of you to take over for Amos. Maximus, do you remember the training I did with you and Amos in Alpha Julian’s rage room?”
“Where we threw everything he allowed just to clean it up?”
“That would be it. I told you there was a reason for the training and this is exactly why. I need it to sound like we’re beating Cole. Anything you can bang or throw against the wall, just do it without hurting anyone. Cole, I need you to let loose this time. Yelp, scream, cry, beg. Give me everything you have. Getting you on that bed is going to be painful and I want to hear all about it. Oliver, Ashley, are you ready to remove that cuff?”
I tense up at just the thought of that cuff coming off my wrist even though I know the relief its removal will bring.
“Yes.” They speak in unison.
“Everyone start now!”
The sudden sound of an unknown object crashing into the wall causes me to startle, giving me a cascading effect of pain through my entire body. I turn my head away from Andre’s neck and let out everything dad has expected me to keep quiet. My screams mix with the echo of objects bouncing off the walls. Without warning the second cuff is pulled off my wrist. It doesn’t matter that it opens like a clam shell, the act of opening it pulls the needles out of my skin causing my screams to turn into pain filled yelps that I just can’t stop. Things are now moving at a lightning pace as the wounds on my wrist are burned, something that I’m unfamiliar and unprepared for. My yelps are starting to quiet involuntarily as the onslaught of pain that my rescue is causing overloads what my brain and body can physically handle. I cringe and whimper in pain as I hear my father’s cruel remarks of encouragement through the crude link he forced upon me.
‘Andre, my boy. I knew you wouldn’t disappoint.’
“Hold your hits Amos and Maximus. I can’t hear him over his cries.”
‘Well I’ll extend my compliments since they are helping.’
I cringe and grasp the shoulder of Andre’s shirt as Dr. Johnston and Ashley continue working on my wrist. I can feel a very soft fabric being wrapped around it, crossing over the palm of my hand several times before one of them places a soft, squishy ball into my hand. I immediately squeeze it as hard as Andre’s shirt as my dad continues.
‘I was wondering when you would return to the pack and be the alpha you need to be. That scream, those yelps. Beautiful son. None of us have gotten that much sound out of him in the week that he’s hung there. I’ll call my upper ring off as well as Kristoph and his upper ring. I’ll be happy to let them know you finished him off. You each get ten minutes. Take a ten minute break between each of you. Lock up the internal door tight and go out the back. Leave it open so that night air gets to him. Let me know when you leave so I can set an alarm. I’m tired and heading to bed. I’ll alert Dr. Carter that he can come find him in the morning. Dr. Carter can take him anywhere he wants to if he survives the night. I don’t care. I’m done with the pervert and I want him dead.’
Everyone remains still until his link ends and his aura fades.
“That was a lot better than I had planned.” Andre is the first one to express relief in what was said.
“I am so sorry Cole. You don’t deserve what you have received and what was said but at least he’s not going to come after us when he discovers this room is locked and empty.”
“He will check big brother.” I wheeze a warning to my brother.
“The camp taught us about that as well. I’ll take care of that on my laptop once you’re safely at the hospital. Now, we are supposed to be on break time. We need to keep things relatively quiet. I imagine some whimpers or yelps from Cole are to be expected at this point just from his own movements. We need to get a robe on him and get him laying down on the gurney for transport. When we leave, I will link dad letting him know that Cole is knocked out cold and the two of you are leaving in five because it isn’t any fun when he’s not howling. Leave the door propped open as he’s instructed. Did you put your bags in my car?”
“Yes.”
They manage to chorus together. I can’t hold back my whimpers as Dr. Johnston and Ashley maneuver my arm through one of the sleeves of the robe.
“Good, the two of you are to go to the Whitesfield Grand Hotel just outside of the White Moon territory. Check in and stay the night. In the morning you check out and head to the Ridgeline Grand Hotel in Vermont. I have a last minute meeting with Alpha Whiteman and I reserved the room with dad’s card so he will be expecting us to be there. Winston has already worked out a business excuse for me to be there under. I’m sorry, Oliver. I know when I spoke with you and Alex about your plans with the underground you said his hospital stays will be in groups of three but he cannot stay at White General. If dad finds him there he will know he survived and will try to get to him before we have a chance to move him.”
“What do you propose?”
“Red General is the closest hospital. We need to take him there, get him stable. While they are working on the basics needed for survival I’ll call Alpha Julian. We’ve already talked at length and he told me he will send a helicopter over to life flight him to West Highland General Hospital. Red moon shares a hospital with their neighbor. Julian assured me he would receive the best care. Once he’s stable enough to travel two hours by ambulance, we will then move him to Ridge General in Vermont. Alpha Whiteman has agreed to keep him there for a month and he’s already familiar with Alpha Moore, the medical director there.”
I whimper lowly as my arm is gingerly guided through the second sleeve. It feels dislocated at the wrist but the amount of pain coursing through my body has made it impossible to determine one pain from another.
For the first time in days my skin is touched by soft warm fabrics and I know that Andre is right, this is the end of this hell. My hearing is starting to fade and while I can hear Dr. Johnston, Ashley and Andre as they help me lay on the gurney I also know that I’m not going to last much longer.
‘Jamie’ I whisper through the link.
‘I’m so glad to hear from you. We thought he had killed you.’
‘No time to explain.’ I start off knowing he will pipe down and listen.
‘Trust Andre. Get my bag to Red General. I won’t be there long.’
It’s as I finish that sentence that I’m barely phased by the band wrapped around my calf and the needle prick into my leg. Everything is getting fuzzy as I feel some sort of medication creeping into my vein. Soon my agonizing pain is reduced to a dull roar and I lose my endless fight to stay awake.
