Wednesday, October 31st Pt.3
(Dr. Andrew Moore’s POV)
“Excellent, that’s exactly what we need in this case. I’m leaving to get him now and we will be there in an hour.”
I can barely contain my excitement that we were able to pull this together so quickly.
“I’m sorry for such a late reply to your request. I hope the lateness of the evening doesn’t prevent him from leaving.”
Alpha Whiting of the White Wolf pack apologizes.
“He was ready to go around four this afternoon and was very disappointed when I wouldn’t take him with me after I brought him some clothes to change into around eight. Although he’s doing well at Ridge General there was something that spooked him bad before we left so I’m certain this will be a relief.”
I start the engine and pull quickly out of the driveway.
“Just send me a quick text or even call when you’re on your way so I know when to expect you.”
“Yes sir.”
I speed up quickly as I get on the highway heading towards the hospital. It’s only a twenty minute drive but it’s obvious as I pull up that all hell has broken loose at the normally peaceful hospital. Multiple police cars surround the entrance to the underground garage leaving me to find a spot much farther away.
I stop at the elevator on the first floor after a brief jog through the parking lot. One of the benefits of being the director of the hospital is not having to stop at the front desk unless I don’t know which room the patient is located in.
The elevator dings before opening and I press the number five for Cole’s floor. It’s only when I reach his floor that I realize the extent of the chaos that has ensued. Police are swarming around the nurse’s station, several are interviewing those not currently helping patients. I walk up to the desk.
“What’s going on here?”
I ask no one in particular hoping that someone will answer. To my dismay, nobody does. With the ding of the elevator a hefty police officer steps out. It’s obvious by his looks that he’s a werewolf.
“I thought I placed this hospital in lock down. What is he doing here?”
The floor goes silent with the boom of his voice.
“I’m Dr. Andrew Moore, medical director of Ridge General. I have my own key card that allows me to access the building at any time. I guess that’s why I didn’t realize it was locked down. Will you please tell me what’s going on here?”
He studies me closely before making his decision. I can tell that my scent and aura are helping him form it quickly as the young alpha knows he’s not nearly as experienced as I am.
“We received several calls about a nasty fight in the corridor of the underground garage. The few people that were in their vehicles while it happened were too scared to get out. My officers arrived within five minutes of the call but everyone involved had already left. The amount of blood found in the corridor as well as the trail it left behind was disturbing to say the least.
It took some time but we were able to conclude that whoever was involved in the fight left the hospital through the stairwell, got jumped before making it outside of the garage and was taken away from the hospital. I ordered the hospital to be shut down when we discovered a patient was missing.”
The officer concludes my worst fear.
“Cole.” I whisper in shock.
“How do you know the young man that was taken from here before I told you?” He asks suspiciously.
“No. No! It can’t be?!”
I’m in a full panic as I push my way past the chief.
“Cole!” I call out as I force my way into his room.
A good half a dozen officers are in the room I left him in just an hour and a half ago. I quickly look over the room, knowing there are limited places for him to hide.
“Cole!” I can’t help but desperately shout.
“What is going on?” The police chief asks again.
“Follow.” Is the only thing I manage to spit as I pass him.
I nearly run back to the elevator with him close behind. We both board the next one that opens and I quickly punch the one and close buttons nearly at the same time. I make my way to the security office, swiping my card to let me into the room unannounced.
“I need footage of the fifth floor room twelve and the stairwell brought up now!” I command without hesitation.
Three of the five member security crew manning the cameras know me and start working immediately to bring up what I need. Fortunately the chief stops asking questions long enough for the footage to be brought up.
The first video shows Cole leaping out of bed and making a dive for the bathroom. I can tell by his body language that he’s scared, taking his time to slip out of the room. Next is the footage of the stairs. Unfortunately, this is a bit harder to piece together as there are several cameras that have to be gone through.
Soon enough it becomes apparent that three wolves, including one that looks nearly identical to Cole, enter the stairwell from the fourth floor just after he gives up trying to open it. His panic is high enough that it can be seen on the cameras as he runs down the stairs. His weakened state is obvious as these wolves are much faster and catch him easily despite his two floor lead.
I cringe as I see the first hits to his face before he’s physically picked up and restrained. I curse the cameras not having the ability to record sound as a lengthy conversation occurs before Cole is let loose. Whatever has been said has angered him as he fights fiercely for several minutes. His weakness is cruelly used against him as the largest wolf plants a hard hit against his temple slamming him into the concrete.
Despite his submission it’s not enough as the two smaller wolves jump into the fight, kicking and slamming his body into the concrete well beyond his loss of consciousness. He is unrecognizable as the biggest wolf, the one that could be his twin, picks his limp body up off the ground.
The other two leave ahead of the one carrying Cole. A black Cadillac Escalade pulls up a short time after. I watch as Cole’s body is carelessly thrown into the back through the large back hatch before the obvious leader of the trio climbs into the driver’s seat, speeding away just as the first police car arrives on the scene.
“He knew.” I blurt out, incredulous towards the turn of events that just happened.
“Knew what?” I take several deep breaths before addressing the wolf behind me.
“I never caught your name.” I’m trying to keep my cool despite the deep anger welling up inside me.
“Chief Evan Locken.” I nod as I turn to face him.
“Cole told Alpha Whiteman and I that he wasn’t safe here after Alpha Demetri explained the discovery of an amendment to laws governing abused and tortured wolves. My presence here was due to finding alternate arrangements for him while he waited for his mate and Alpha Demetri’s delta to retrieve him and take him back to Crimson Dawn while he waits for his ferality trial to take place.”
I know I’m sharing too much but it’s important that he has the entire picture.
“Which one is the accused feral?”
“The one that was kidnapped.” I sigh, uncertain about what can be done now.
“Excuse me. I have several calls I need to make, starting with Alpha Demetri.”
