Tuesday, December 31st Pt. 7
“To show him the effects that abuse has on others. To prove to him once and for all that what his father taught him is wrong. Besides, Charles has been extremely cruel to Andre as well.”
“How so?”
“Well, I just learned tonight that Alpha Redmen gave each of his sons permission to have sex, to even rape, at the age of sixteen but lied about the penalty for getting the lady pregnant. Andre has been beaten multiple times for pregnancies. The first two were not his, yet he was mercilessly beaten three times during both of those pregnancies. He was forgiven a fourth when the pups came back not his. The beatings got worse when he got three others pregnant just to be denied the ability to be their father. The two older ones with two different ladies are in better packs than Red Fang but the two with him now. Well, their mother isn’t much of a mother.”
I state sadly as I pull into the garage, turning off the motor as the door closes behind me.
“I need your help. These pups are terrified and social services contacting me to get these pups to their dad has triggered something deeply disturbing. While he did tell me some of what happened I think there’s something bigger, deeper than what’s been spoken of.”
He nods his head as he listens.
“You need to be neutral. Andre is not our enemy and the pups are innocent. They have nothing to do with the issues between packs.”
“Yes sir. What would you like from me?”
“I contacted Kiara to relay the message that I need everything turned down and I need a path from the garage to the med wing. Hayden’s fear, unlike Harper, makes him a flight risk. I need your help in keeping him from the outside doors.”
He nods as he follows my lead, opening his door as I step out of mine. I walk around the back of the vehicle to Andre’s door carefully opening it to prevent him from falling out.
“Andre.” I rub his shoulder roughly as I call his name. He stirs lightly.
“Andre, we’re home. We need to get you and the kids inside.”
I speak at a normal volume but slow my speed in an effort to be as clear as possible. After a minute of effort what I’m saying finally hits him. He yelps suddenly while trying to wrap his arms around the pups still wrapped around his legs. I take his hands gently in mine, preventing him from waking them harshly.
“Red Moon, Andre. It’s as much your home as it is mine.” I whisper near his ear as he slowly calms his breathing. “Take a minute to gather yourself. You’re on a difficult edge right now and the calmer you are the calmer your kids will be.”
He nods as he continues his attempt to calm down.
“Who’s the other wolf?” He asks cautiously.
“Field officer Abram. I picked him up on the way in.” I respond casually.
“What I would like to do is wake the kids enough that you can hand them out the door. I’ll give Harper to Abe then I will take Hayden so you can get out of the car.”
“Hayden won’t go to you.”
“I anticipate as much but that is the best way to do this.”
“Yes sir.” He finally agrees.
He gently brushed the hair out of his little girl’s eyes. The touch is enough to cause her to whimper as she stirs.
“I know princess, I promise this is the last wake up tonight.”
He picks her up gently and placed her on the floor, guiding her to me. She yelps and starts to cry as I pick her up.
“I know. I’m sorry.” I try to console her as I hold her in an awkward position. “I understand you’re scared but I need you to go to Abe.”
She handles the hand off well despite several yelps. I watch Abe patiently try to wrangle the young pup into a position they both can handle.
“Are you Marcus?” She whispers through her whimpers.
“No ma’am. I don’t know who Marcus is?”
“Do you spank?”
“What do you mean?”
“Marcus gets mad when we don’t obey. Mommy holds while Marcus hits. It hurts us.”
“I’ve been spanked before but nothing like what I see on your back. Nothing like that happens here.”
He tries to console her as she cries against his shoulder. He looks at me with worry and sorrow. Such a young pup shouldn’t know such pain. I turn my attention back to Andre. Getting Hayden out of the expedition is proving difficult. Harper yelps from behind me as her brother starts screaming. Occasionally he manages a word but for the most part it’s a shrill scream emanating his deeply held fear of the pack house, something we were not prepared for.
Andre hurries himself out of the car as I gently juggle the kicking and screaming pup. I can’t help but realize how light he feels in my hands, making me wonder if he’s growing properly. It’s only after the door is shut that Andre takes Hayden from my hold. His screams increase briefly before he manages to quiet.
His father holds him tightly against his chest as the pup bawls into his neck. Through his tears I can hear him beg not to be spanked for screaming. Andre remains silent as he sways gently. I use the moment of calm to contact Alexis, our resident pediatrician.
‘I don’t know if we’re going to make it back there to you without the young boy getting sedated. He’s showing a high level of fear associated with the pack house.’
I warn her of my concerns.
‘Do you know their ranks? I can bring some medication out to the grand living room.’
‘Andre is their father, he’s alpha but I don’t know what their mother is.’
“Andre, do you know the birth rank of your kids?” He shakes his head.
“Dad doesn’t test for birth rank. His kids are the only born alphas. All other members have to test for their rank after their first shift. If you don’t shift by eighteen you’re automatically an omega.”
I nod as I get back with Alexis.
‘Were you able to hear his explanation?’ I ask.
‘I will treat both as alphas until blood tests on genetic rank reveal what they are as alpha pups tend to be the most sensitive to medication.’
‘I’m getting ready to bring them inside. Are you ready?’
‘Yes, we’re ready.’ I touch Andre’s face gently. He opens his eyes and looks into mine.
“We need to get them inside.” He nods easily as he walks towards the stairs. I stop beside Abram. I feel guilty as the little girl has accepted Abram holding her without much fuss.
“Even though she has settled nicely, I feel it would be better if I carry her inside.”
Her eyes open quickly, expressing caution and fear without making a sound.
“I won’t hurt you.” I reassure her quietly reaching my hands out to her.
She transitions back to me with only a few whimpers. Andre has reached the top of the three steps and is standing on the small landing leading into the pack house as he slowly opens the door. I quickly follow behind him with Abram just two steps behind me.
