Saturday October 27th Pt. 2
“Can you handle me talking to you?” He asks quietly.
“Yes sir.” I respond just as quiet.
His scent is calming despite not having any pups of his own but surprisingly, there’s not a single hint of his aura present.
“It was heartbreaking to do but we had to force Jamie to leave. It was difficult enough for us to alert your father to the fact that you were unconscious in the hospital again without the added fight that would come from Jamie not returning as well.”
I nod my head, understanding the circumstances that they are under.
“You have received no sedatives while you’ve been here. Honestly, I don’t think you’ve had any medication at all but I’d have to verify that the next time Emily comes in.”
He pets the side of my head with a predictable rhythm that is slowly putting me to sleep.
“They did another CAT scan and MRI. They were concerned that they had missed an aneurysm while you were here the first time. They occasionally occur with head trauma.”
“Was there?”
His confession has me concerned considering the amount of head trauma I’ve suffered this year.
“No. There was no obvious reason for your seizure. It would be helpful if you could remember what was going on when you had it. I’ll give you a couple days to think about it. Alpha Demetri is very concerned and I know he’ll want to talk with you.”
“I do too. He is home. I want to go home.”
My voice cracks as I try to express my needs as simply as I can. He hums gently before speaking.
“I’ll contact Alpha Demetri today. I need to head back to my house and take care of a few things for a few hours but I promise I’ll return. I didn’t want you to wake up alone. I’ll speak with Dr. Boyter and tell him what you told me. I’m certain he’ll keep you heavy on the pain meds until at least Monday. I’m going to schedule a time for Demetri to call and speak with you. This incident has caught the attention of a lot of people and I think we may have made some headway in getting you where you want to be.”
His words are as reassuring as the gentleness of his touch. It’s the rhythm of the room, where the heart monitor beeps steadily and the clock on the wall ticks that I find a peace I rarely find and allow myself to drift asleep.
Wednesday, October 31st
The last several days have gone by in a blur. It was a little unnerving to wake up without Dr. Moore being there but at the same time I understand him having other things to take care of. He’s still spent more time with me than he has back at the pack’s medical wing. I tried to insist that I was okay on my own but he insisted that there’s other doctors in the clinic than just him.
The nurses caring for me this week have been consistently rotating between Emily and Saraha during the day and Saraphina and Ian at night. They are all very patient and kind with me. Each of them empowered me instead of expecting pure submission. Emily picked up on my hesitation with allowing her to see me without apparel but also understood how much the catheter bothered me.
She sat with me Monday, talked with me for a long time explaining a lot of things in order to get me comfortable with removing it. I understand that she sees everyone naked but it’s nothing I’ve ever been comfortable with. In the end, I let her do it as my only male nurse wouldn’t come in until Tuesday night. They removed my IV the next day and switched me over to the oral Vicodin. My exploding migraine has managed to tone down into a dull roar and for the most part I’m able to handle being awake with just tylenol in my system.
My physical therapy has literally become walking down to the cafeteria three times a day for my meals as they discovered that I won’t eat anything brought to me. I’m doing fairly well now but that only serves to increase my anxiety as the better I get the closer I am to returning to my constant hell.
I remember Dr. Moore saying that things have finally started moving in the right direction but he hasn’t updated me and I’m not completely certain what exactly it means. He’s scheduled a phone conference with Alpha Demetri for this afternoon and that’s where I’m at now, waiting for Dr. Moore to come.
I’ve taken care of all my needs and just got back from having lunch. My meals tend to be small so the nurses keep a stock of prepackaged foods for me to snack on in the dresser beside my bed. At the moment I’m trying to relax with a color by number game that’s downloaded on the phone Alpha Demetri gave me. Unfortunately the brightness of the phone still bothers me so I’m only able to play five minutes before I have to put it down and that’s with the brightness turned all the way down.
I close my eyes and lay my head back on the pillow, the sting behind my eyes has just started and I know to stop before it turns into a raging migraine. A soft knock on my door alerts me to someone coming in. For the first time since waking, I’m not concerned about who it is.
“Cole, are you awake?” Dr. Moore’s voice is soft and cautious.
“Yes sir. I’m just resting my eyes before my migraine starts back up.”
“I’m sorry whatever happened has caused such long term effects.”
His statement is genuine as I nod my head in appreciation.
“Are you up for this phone meeting with Demetri?”
“Yes sir. It sounds weird to me but the only way to express my feelings is that I need to hear him.”
“Considering what you’ve been through and what you want, it’s not weird at all.”
I open my eyes as another set of feet enter the room. Another wolf I haven’t met walks in. I can’t keep myself from stiffening up as his smell and aura are obviously both alpha in nature.
“Try to relax. I know you haven’t met Alpha Whiteman but he’s here because he needs to know what the plan is now that your seizure has very much caught the attention of the council.”
“Why…” I start to speak but I’m interrupted but Dr. Moore’s ringing phone.
“Good day, Alpha Demetri.”
He greets as he switches his phone over to the speaker for all of us to hear.
“Good afternoon Dr. Moore. Are you with Cole?”
I’m shocked at how relaxed I’m able to become at just the sound of his voice.
“Yes sir, and you seem to have a positive effect on him.”
He pauses a moment allowing Alpha Whiteman to get settled on the love seat positioned several feet from my bed.
“Why has my seizure caught the attention of the council?” I try asking my question again.
“How are you doing Cole?” I growl with a huff as I sit back against my pillow.
“I’m sorry, Cole. I have heard your question and I will answer it. Just be patient with me. I need to ask a few questions to get a basis for the council’s reaction to you having a seizure the day you’re scheduled to leave.”
“They think I faked it?” I whisper.
“You would be quite the actor to fake a seizure and be unconscious for three days.” He speaks softly and patiently. “Have you ever had a seizure before?”
“No sir. At least not that I’m aware of.”
“We didn’t think so. Can you walk me through what happened that day, before the seizure happened?”
