Friday, October 18th Pt. 6

I loosen my hold as he bows his head, finally nodding his acknowledgment that he played no part in the danger she’s currently in.
“What happens after you give her palliative care?”
“I give the three of you time together. You can speak to her about what little I just told you about empaths and hopefully she will be able to comprehend the painful and dangerous therapy that she will need to recover.”
“Painful and dangerous?” He’s hushed in fear. All I can do is nod.
“I will give more details once the antiemetic and Vicodin has kicked in. It’s best if I go over the details just once as it’s a complicated process and if you try to repeat what I’ve said and get confused then it will become harder for her to understand.”
To my relief he nods silently. He watches as I walk to the other side of the room. I type in the PIN code to the cabinet I’m in front of as the medication Jessa needs to start the reversal of her silver poisoning is highly dangerous and thus highly regulated. Only empaths registered with the council that have undergone extensive training in detoxing other empaths are even able to get their hands on such medication.
I remove the vial from the cabinet and carry it to the counter, placing it in the tray with two pre-drawn syringes of medication, alcohol wipes, an empty syringe and everything I need to do a blood draw with IV conversion.
“You told her that you’re forcing the palliative care and those two medications are already drawn. What about this third one?”
“This isn’t something I will force. Even though morally it seems to be the right thing to do as she will die without it, historically if she doesn’t agree to accept it her wolf has a fifty percent chance of rejecting it as well.”
He cocks his head but remains silent. It’s clear that he doesn’t fully comprehend what it means.
“Are you ready?”
I break the momentary silence. He nods as he stands. It’s easy to feel the relief he’s already experiencing from his shot despite his arm feeling like I just punched him as hard as I could. I stop at one last cabinet and place a disposable cold pack into the tray.
“If you’d like I can grab an ice pack for your arm as well. Wolves with higher sensitivity, like intuitives and empaths tend to react to that medication a bit harsher.”
He shakes his head as he follows, grabbing his bottle of water as we head out of the room.
It only takes a minute to make our way back to the living room. I’m grateful to see that Cole has reclined the chair the two of them are sitting in. Jessa is now wrapped in a blanket and it’s only the subtle movements underneath that tell me he’s delicately rubbing her back where her shirt and pants meet.
“Cole.” I call his name gently as I stop beside him. My presence causes Jessa to tense and fight with what little energy she has available. He immediately adjusts his hold, gently hushing her whines as she begs not to be harmed further.
“I’m very sorry Cole as I know this has become a trigger word but I need you to be brave. She needs these shots and while they will make her feel better the first one can be painful to receive.”
“What is it?” He asks cautiously.
“As we discussed before I left for the med wing, she needs strong antiemetic and Vicodin to combat the intense pain and nausea she’s experiencing. The antiemetic is the one that hurts. Alpha Demetri allowed me to give him the same medication before coming out.” I explain calmly in the hopes he can keep her calm.
“Are you okay, alpha?” Cole asks as he looks at Demetri.
“Yes sir. It has a decent burn but he gave it in two doses which made it a bit easier. I still yelped with the second half but the burn subsided quickly. It’s barely been ten minutes and I already feel like I can breathe without holding my stomach.”
“Is it worth the pain of receiving?” He asks.
Despite his obvious lack of recognition there is something that Cole finds inherently comforting about Demetri. Enough that it appears he’s seeking guidance on what’s best for Jessa. Demetri nods his head.
“That’s why I’m over here. While I don’t normally force medical treatment in very serious situations I will step in.”
“Submission.” He whispers.
It’s easy to hear the fear that he has for his mate.
“I’m sorry.” Demetri responds as he nods.
He looks at me as he stands from the couch.
“Are you ready?”
I nod as he slowly starts adjusting the blanket so we can get to her arm.
“No.” She whines as she squirms.
“Jessa, baby. I can’t handle you fighting in my lap. I’m not certain what I did but my lower back is very painful.”
He explains near her ear as he sits up causing the blanket to fall from her shoulders.
“I can’t do this. I can’t handle more pain.”
She cries into his neck. To our benefit she reacted to Cole sitting up exactly as we needed.
“I’m sorry Jessa.”
Demetri whispers as he places his hand gently around the back of her neck. It doesn’t take being an empath to see the care he’s taking with her. She squirms even harder knowing the next step he’s going to take.
“Jessa Abigail Stoneman I command you to submit.”
His alpha aura is out as he speaks. Both are gentle and kind with a fatherly comfort. He’s struggling with what’s happening as much as she is and refuses to be anything outside of kind with her.
“Grab my arm like I’m holding yours.”
He adds to his instructions to submit. She cries quietly as Cole and Demetri hold her in his lap. She weakly struggles to pull her arm away as I wipe it down with alcohol.
“Deep, even breathing Jessa. I break this up into two doses. It’s important that you don’t fight as the needle will stay in your arm until you’re calm enough to receive the second half.”
I explain as Demetri starts helping her control her breathing. I pick the first syringe up as Demetri positions himself against her legs. I know this is the antiemetic as I placed a clip on it so the plunger will stop halfway through the dose. I look at it in the light, verifying that there’s no air bubbles before uncapping it. I wrap my hand around her arm, gently holding it in place as her fear grows to a terrifying level. I close my eyes and take my own deep breath, letting it out slowly as I feel everything that’s going on with this young lady.
“I’m sorry, Jessa. I know you’re not ready.” I whisper. “Three, two, small pinch with a big burn.” I state quietly as I inject the first half of the medication.
She yelps several times as she goes into a frantic fight or flight. I firmly believe that it’s how close she is to death's door that gives the three of us the upper hand as she collapses shortly after she fails to get away.
“I’m sorry. I truly am for not speaking to you first but I researched Dr. Leroux and Alpha Cassius. What I found is the reason I allowed Cole to come back here to them. Deven is a registered empath and doctor. My only regret is not bringing you here sooner.”
“Why did you bring me here?” She hiccups through.
“Because we ran every test we could and came up blank. The only thing left was to get an empath involved and Deven is the only registered one within a ten hour drive. He is what you need right now. His skills are your only way out of the mess you were forced into. I’m sorry I haven’t been the father you’ve needed while at Crimson Dawn.”
His short conversation has calmed her surprisingly well as I flick the clip off the syringe.
“Deep breathe in, slowly push it out. Second half will be as quick as the first. I need you to stay still as I’m not going to warn you about the second shot. The burn of this one will hide anything you feel from the second.”
It’s a surprise when she nods.
“Three, two…”
