Chapter 103 Two Billion Dollars
Meanwhile, the two folks in private box No. 1 on the left were eyeing Fergus.
The woman in the dress swirled her wine glass and smirked, "Think Fergus will keep bidding?"
The middle-aged guy in the suit replied, all serious, "Fergus is cocky, but he's not dumb. He knows who he can mess with and who he can't."
He didn't think Fergus would dare to keep bidding. Honestly, he didn't think much of Fergus at all.
The woman in the dress shrugged, "I don't know. Some people don't learn until they get smacked down. They're just lowlifes."
The middle-aged guy nodded, "Let's wait and see."
Downstairs, the crowd was buzzing.
They all knew the kind of people who could sit in the private boxs. In all of Golden Valley City, only the big shots from the State Capital could.
And this was private box No. 1 on the left!
They started chatting about it.
"Based on how the Treasure Pavilion's private boxs are set up, the left and right sides are equal, and the central box is the top. So, the private box on the left is second only to the central one. Who the heck is here today?"
"I knew there were people in the private boxs, but private box No. 1 on the left? That's wild!"
"Fergus, keep showing off! If you have the guts, keep bidding. If not, you're a coward!"
Fergus glanced at them, unimpressed, "Calling you losers wasn't wrong. I don't get why you're so excited. No matter how powerful the person in private box is, it's still him, not you."
He paused, "Besides, how do you know that what you think is powerful means anything to me?"
He was about to raise his paddle, determined to get the Night Pearl.
But before he could, another voice rang out, "Right side box No. 1, bid $1.05 billion!"
The place went nuts.
"What? There's someone in private box No. 1 on the right too?"
"What is today? Why are all the big shots in Golden Valley City?"
"I bet since the Treasure Pavilion opened, this is the first time both private box No. 1 on the left and right have had guests at the same time. It's unheard of!"
Everyone's attention shifted to private box No. 1 on the right, forgetting about Fergus. This had never happened before.
The young guy in private box No. 1 on the right swung his legs and laughed, "Why are you all looking at me? The glass is one-way; you can't see me. No need to worship me; I'm just a legend."
He turned to Master Dusk, "Think Fergus will be grateful if I take the Night Pearl and then make him my subordinate? He's pissed off so many people in Golden Valley City. Without me, he'd be leaving on a stretcher."
He imagined Fergus being cornered by the crowd, and him swooping in to save the day. Fergus would be so grateful he'd swear loyalty forever.
Master Dusk shook his head with a wry smile, thinking, 'You just want to show off.' Yet he said, "I think he would be, but we need to figure out who’s in private box No. 1 on the left. They're our real competition!"
Before coming, they knew someone was in a private box, but not which one. They didn't expect it to be private box No. 1 on the left!
"Sitting in private box No. 1 on the right?" The middle-aged guy in the suit frowned, feeling the weight of the situation.
"Interesting," The woman in the dress swirled her wine glass. "But no matter who it is, we must get the Night Pearl. Keep bidding!"
As she spoke, another voice cut through the air, "Left side box No. 1, bid $1.1 billion!"
The crowd went wild. Sure, Fergus had just bid $1 billion, but everyone knew he was just flaunting stolen cash. The VIPs in boxs No. 1 on the left and right? They were the real deal.
Two big shots going head-to-head? Now that was a show!
"Right side box No. 1, bid $1.15 billion!"
"Left side box No. 1, bid $1.2 billion!"
"Right side box No. 1, bid $1.25 billion!"
"Left side box No. 1, bid $1.3 billion!"
Neither side was backing down.
Soon, the price hit $1.45 billion!
Fergus sat there, feeling pretty annoyed. He had already raised his paddle, but everyone’s eyes were glued to the private boxs, even Jennifer's. No one noticed him.
So he decided to wait it out, hoping one of them would drop out before he jumped back in.
Up front, Jennifer stood on the stage, her eyes locked on private box No. 1 on the left, waiting for their next bid.
The middle-aged man in the suit frowned. "Who the heck is in private box No. 1 on the right, not backing down at all?"
Money wasn't the issue; the Night Pearl just wasn't worth that much. Bidding higher was pointless.
The woman in the dress smiled, "Why don't you go out and see what's up? Might save us some trouble."
The middle-aged man thought for a moment, then nodded and walked out of the private box.
He stepped out and stood by the railing, coming into everyone's view.
The crowd gasped.
It was Master Thunder, ranked seventh in the Mountain State Combat World!
No wonder he had the clout to sit in private box No. 1 on the left. The title of Grand Master was on par with the heads of major families in the state! A Grand Master's power could ensure a family's safety for a lifetime!
Master Thunder didn't look down but turned to private box No. 1 on the right and shouted, "I have my eyes on this Night Pearl."
Everyone turned to private box No. 1 on the right.
Who would dare to compete with Master Thunder for the Night Pearl?
The door of private box No. 1 on the right opened.
An old man slowly stepped out.
The crowd was stunned.
"It's Master Dusk! My God!"
"Master Dusk is ranked sixth!"
"Master Dusk!" Paul was so excited he was about to cry.
Master Dusk didn't look down either but looked at Master Thunder and smiled, "So it's Master Thunder. Long time no see. Looks like we have similar tastes. I want this Night Pearl too."
Master Thunder's face turned serious. Back when they competed for rankings, he had fought Master Dusk and lost after hundreds of moves. Now, facing Master Dusk again, he wasn't confident he'd win.
After a moment, Master Thunder said, "This Night Pearl is very important to me. I hope you can give me some face and let me have it. If we keep bidding, it'll just lead to mutual destruction!"
Master Dusk smiled, "I was thinking the same thing. I hope you can give me some face. I want this Night Pearl!"
Master Thunder's face darkened, and he asked coldly, "Master Dusk, are you planning to disrespect me?"
Master Dusk's smile vanished, and he squinted. "Master Thunder, are you determined to fight me?"
As the two stared each other down, the temperature in the Treasure Pavilion dropped.
Everyone in the hall shivered.
Jennifer was no exception. Even though she knew it was them, seeing them face off still made her hold her breath in fear.
Fergus saw the two staring each other down and shook his head in frustration. It was just an auction; why so much drama? If face could solve everything, why would they need money?
He raised his paddle and said, "Two billion dollars!"
