Chapter 91 An Old Man and a Young Man

At Sky Palace, Violet and Fergus had just walked in when Violet's phone buzzed.

"Dad? Why are you still up?" Violet answered, surprised.

Declan was usually in bed by now, always mindful of his health.

Declan chuckled. "I heard you have some good news, Violet. How could I sleep? The person you picked knows medicine and whipped up an elixir worth at least ten billion dollars. You've got a good eye!"

Violet's hands shook, her eyes tearing up. This was only the second time he'd praised her. The first was when she snagged Plot 140.

And this time, his praise was even higher.

Choking up, she said, "Dad, you already knew? I thought you were asleep and planned to tell you tomorrow."

Declan laughed again. "Silly girl, good news should be shared right away. Even if I'm resting, I should get up. Now, your assets not only surpass the richest person in Tarynville but by a long shot. Everyone in the family has shut up. Violet, the one-month deadline is off. I won't pressure you anymore. Come back whenever you want."

Declan's voice had a hint of pride, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

Violet bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. She no longer had to marry for the family. "Thank you, Dad. You must have shouldered a lot of pressure for me. Don't worry, I will make you proud!"

Declan paused, then chuckled. "Alright, I believe you."

"One more thing, Samuel came to me asking for the medicine. Violet, I know you feel wronged, but the medicine isn't for Samuel; it's for the soldiers on the front lines. This is a big deal, so give it to him."

Violet nodded firmly. "Yes, I will talk to Fergus!"

Actually, even if Declan hadn't mentioned it, Violet would have convinced Fergus. They couldn't let soldiers suffer over a personal grudge. Some things were bigger than personal grievances.

They hung up.

Violet rushed to Fergus and hugged him tightly, crying. "Fergus, thank you. I feel so happy right now!"

She had lived under the shadow of an arranged marriage her whole life. Every time she thought about marrying someone she didn't love, she felt utter despair.

Now, she was finally free.

Fergus tensed up from the hug. With his sharp hearing, he couldn't help but overhear the entire phone conversation.

After a moment, Fergus raised his hands to hug Violet back. "You'll be even happier in the future. This is just the beginning."

They already had the Eternal Lamp, were about to get the Thunderstruck Wood, and only needed to find the Night Pearl. Once they found the Night Pearl to help Violet change her fate, her life would be completely different.

"Yes!" Violet nodded vigorously, then looked up at Fergus, her face suddenly turning red. She whispered, "With the one-month deadline gone, the engagement is history. I can be your girlfriend now."

Seeing Violet's shy expression, Fergus suddenly felt a rush of blood to his head. He remembered what those guys in prison had said. 'When a girl says she wants to be your girlfriend, it means she's ready to give you everything!' In other words, they could have sex.

Fergus tentatively said, "Why don't you go take a shower first?"

Violet yelped, seeing the look in Fergus' eyes, and immediately understood what he was thinking. Her heart raced.

She was still a virgin.

But seeing Fergus' eager eyes, she couldn't bear to refuse. She gritted her teeth and said, "Come up in ten minutes!"

With that, Violet turned and dashed upstairs.

Fergus swallowed hard, never expecting happiness to hit him so suddenly.

"The old guy left me in prison for three years and didn't come back. If I do something passionate, he won't blame me, right? We're even!" Fergus thought, hearing the sound of running water, which made him even more restless, not knowing what to do.

Just then, Fergus' phone rang.

"What's up!" Fergus answered quickly, mainly to distract himself.

"Your fiancée Jessica is in my hands. If you don't want her to die, come to State Capital Davenport. Don't tell Ms. Gray. If she finds out, I guarantee Jessica will wish she were dead!" The voice on the other end, processed to sound strange, was Thomas.

Fergus looked at the number; it was unfamiliar.

He casually said, "Idiot, didn't you investigate before kidnapping? Our engagement has been called off. We have no relationship. Kill her if you want. By the way, I don't like Jessica either. Slap her for me."

Using Jessica to threaten him was laughable. Only two people in the world could be used to threaten him: his mentor and Violet!

Thomas was furious. "I'm not joking. If you don't come, Jessica will really die!"

"I'm not joking either. Slap her for me before you kill her. Thanks!" Fergus said and quickly hung up.

He didn't want to waste time talking to someone who couldn't even kidnap the right person.

Thomas was speechless.

He turned and slapped Logan. "Useless!"

Logan, dazed from the slap, weakly said, "Mr. Zimmerman, I think maybe the threat wasn't enough. How about I have my son make a video with Jessica and send it to Fergus?"

"Good!"

Fergus didn't think much of it. He used to have a good impression of Jessica, but after today at the construction site, he was only angry and considered Jessica a stranger. There was no need to care about a stranger's life or death.

Hearing the water stop upstairs, she was applying body wash.

Fergus was getting anxious.

The doorbell suddenly rang.

Fergus opened the door to find Colin. "What are you doing here?"

"Mr. Yost, please save Jessica!" Colin said anxiously, "If you don't save her, Jessica will surely die. I've already sent people from home, but they might not make it in time!"

Fergus frowned. "Thomas kidnapped her?"

He hadn't thought much about it before, but seeing Colin made him think more.

First, they wanted him to go to State Capital. Second, Colin had Aaron, who was quite skilled, but he didn't dare to fight against the Zimmerman Family.

Colin hesitated, then said, "Yes, Jessica is currently in a small house in the suburbs!"

Fergus heard the location and nodded.

If Jessica had been kidnapped by someone else, it had nothing to do with him. But if Thomas did it, it was likely because of him.

He took out his phone and sent a message to Violet.

Then quickly left.

Five minutes after Fergus left Sky Palace, two people walked up from the mountain—an old man and a young man, one in front, one behind.

"Stop!" The bodyguards hidden around Sky Palace blocked their way, warning, "Sky Palace is private property. Outsiders are not allowed. Please leave!"

With Fergus in the villa, there was no need to worry about anyone approaching.

The young man in front, dressed in a white suit and wearing a white hat, sneered. "Kill them!"

The old man didn't hesitate. Moving like a ghost, he attacked the bodyguards. They had no chance to resist and fell to the ground, lifeless, in seconds.

The two continued walking towards Sky Palace.
