Chapter 40 Throw Them Out
"What? he's paying just like that? No haggling?"
"You're such an idiot. This stone is worth at most a few hundred dollars!"
"Serves you right for getting scammed. You deserve to be taught a lesson!"
Seeing him pay directly, the people around started pointing and laughing, and the other vendors also made some sarcastic remarks.
The vendor didn't expect him to be so straightforward. In fact, the stone was priced at only eight hundred dollars, and if haggled, it could be sold for ten thousand dollars.
Selling it for ten thousand, the stall owner almost made laugh out loud!
He quickly said, "You're a straightforward guy, but we have a rule here; once sold, no returns or exchanges. If you make a profit, it's your skill; if you lose, it's your poor judgment."
"Not my problem!"
As soon as he finished speaking.
"Crack!"
Fergus used his fingers to peel off the stone's surface, making a crisp sound.
The people around were stunned. This guy had such strength? But the next second, they were even more shocked because a bright green light shone from the peeled surface.
"Imperial Green!"
"Holy crap, he hit the jackpot. Just this one cut is worth at least ten thousand. If the whole thing is green inside, it's worth at least a million!"
"The last time someone found Imperial Green was ten years ago, right?"
Everyone was dumbfounded. It had been years since anyone found Imperial Green here; not even glassy jade! They thought Fergus was just a young guy, but it turned out he was skilled!
Fergus smiled slightly; he was right. Carving a cross from such high-quality jade not only brings good luck, but could also ward off a life-threatening disaster.
If given to Violet, at least until the jade breaks, he wouldn't have to worry about her being in danger.
However, it could only ward off one disaster.
To change fate, other methods were needed.
He put away the jade and prepared to leave.
"Wait!"
At that moment, the vendor suddenly spoke up. He was holding a rough stone similar to the one in Fergus's hand, saying while smiling, "Buddy, you must be mistaken. The stone you bought is this one; the one in your hand is mine."
"Yours?" Fergus was taken aback.
"Of course, they look similar, so you took the wrong one. Give me the stone, and you can have this one!" The vendor reached out his hand.
Xavier, who had been quietly playing the role of a loyal follower, knew it was time to step in.
With eyes wide open in anger, he said, "Are you trying to play dirty? Believe me, I'll throw you into the river to feed the alligators!"
The vendor showed no fear. The Imperial Green in Fergus's hand was worth at least fifty thousand dollars. If he could get and sell it, he could bank on that cash to coast through life without lifting a finger.
With a cold sneer, he said, "Watch your mouth. Leave the stone, and you can go. If you don't, you won't leave either!"
"I'll make you crawl out of this street!"
As he finished speaking, the people around gasped.
They advised, "Leave the stone. You can't fight him."
"This Imperial Green is worth tens of thousands of dollars; you can't handle this kind of wealth. Just consider it a loss to avoid disaster."
"This is the vendor's territory, so just think of the consequences."
Hearing the crowd's advice, the vendor became very smug, crossing his arms and sneering, "I don't want to repeat myself. Leave the stone and get lost. And you, slap yourself twice for cursing at me!"
He looked at Xavier and snorted coldly.
Fergus looked at Xavier suspiciously and wondered, 'Isn't Xavier an underground big boss? How is he being threatened in public?'
Xavier's face turned red with anger as he shouted, "I'll kill you!"
Saying that, he picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at the vendor, hitting him hard and making him bleed.
The vendor covered his head and ran back, threatening. "Just you wait. Someone come quickly, I've been attacked!"
His shout was very loud.
"Who dares to hit you?!"
A roar came from the crowd. "Get the hell out of my way! Who dares to cause trouble on Gemstone Avenue?!"
Then, a few burly men with machetes rushed over.
Seeing this, the people around quickly distanced themselves from Fergus and Xavier.
"It's them! They robbed my jade and attacked me. Make them crawl out of here!" The vendor covered his head and howled.
"Damn it, you've got some nerve to mess with me..."
The leader, Third Brother, charged over aggressively. But when he saw Xavier, he was scared witless and went silent. While others couldn't recognize Xavier, he could. This was the underground big boss, Xavier Quinn!
The vendor didn't notice Third Brother's change and shouted, "Keep being arrogant. If I don't make you kneel and call me Grandpa today, I won't be able to show my face around here."
Slap!
Third Brother slapped the vendor hard across the face, furious. "Shut up!"
Then, he bent his knees and knelt, his face full of flattery. "Grandpa, you're here."
Everyone was dumbfounded. Third Brother was the toughest guy on this street, able to handle any problem.
'It was said he even knew the underground big boss, Mr. Quinn. Now, he's kneeling?' They thought.
"Third Brother?" The vendor was stunned.
"Don't call me!" Third Brother shouted in frustration, "This is Mr. Quinn. Kneel and show some respect!"
"What!"
In an instant, the air seemed to freeze. Everyone knew Mr. Quinn, but few had ever met him. No one expected that this was him!
The vendor was so scared he almost fainted. He immediately knelt and begged, "Grandpa, I'm sorry. I didn't know you brought your kid here. I'm sorry!"
He thought Fergus was Mr. Quinn's child, and everyone else thought so, too.
Xavier shivered in fear. How dare he call Mr. Yost a kid?
He immediately said, "You fool! This is Mr. Yost, my master. Today, I'm going to throw you into the river as alligator feed!"
With that, he walked over menacingly.
'What? Master?!' Everyone was stunned.
"Forget it."
Fergus suddenly said, "Don't waste time. This small matter isn't worth a life. Break his limbs and throw him on the street to beg for the rest of his life."
After saying that, he turned and left.
"Got it!" Xavier agreed wholeheartedly, quickly taking out his phone to give orders. Amid the vendor's pleas, he followed Fergus, chuckling, "Mr. Yost, many people haven't seen me, so..."
"It doesn't matter."
Fergus didn't care about these things. "Where can I buy carving tools?"
The jade needed to be carved into a cross.
Xavier cautiously asked, "You want to carve it yourself? I know a place. Just ahead is the Treasure Pavilion, owned by Nathan Smith, a master in the jade carving industry. His craftsmanship is renowned nationwide."
"Many big shots from other places pay him handsomely to carve their stones."
Fergus originally wanted to carve it himself, but it was fine if someone else could do it. The carving was simple; the main thing was the quality of the material.
Fergus nodded in agreement.
Ten minutes later, the two arrived at the Treasure Pavilion.
Inside, various jade carvings were on display, including a 10-foot-tall Soapstone sculpture of Parthenon figures, lifelike and vivid.
"Scammers, you're all scammers! Compensate me for my ebony!"
Suddenly, a tearful shout came from inside the store, "Not only did you scam me, but you also took advantage of me. I gave you everything, and you... let go of me, you won't die a good death!"
As she spoke, a woman was dragged out from the back by two men.
Finally, a young man walked out and said in a low voice, "Throw her out. If she dares to spread rumors, sew her mouth shut!"
