Chapter 81 Mutual Bickering
Fergus bolted out, still rattled. That David guy was just too intense, always bugging him to be his apprentice. He figured it was best to steer clear of David from now on.
Fergus had planned to head back to Sky Palace and whip up some dessert for Violet, hoping to get closer to her. Even if she could just be a bit like the old Violet, that'd be great.
Funny thing, though—Violet seemed like a whole new person now, but she was still awesome, just like before.
He thought both sides of her had their own charm.
But halfway there, his phone buzzed. It was Sarah. "Fergus, you're the manager. Do you even care about the company? You've been MIA all day. Do you have any idea how much we're losing because of you?"
"Why haven't you jumped into a manure pit yet?" Fergus shot back.
He realized Sarah really needed a good scolding; she was always giving him grief.
Sarah was stunned.
She was about to blow a gasket, feeling the urge to shove Fergus into a manure pit herself!
She couldn't fathom what Violet saw in Fergus, that she'd give up everything for him.
Taking a deep breath, she said, "Mr. Yost, I still have to serve you wholeheartedly, so I can't die. By the way, Plot 140 has already started construction, and you need to get there ASAP to oversee it! You don't want to let Ms. Gray down, do you? That's it!"
Sarah hung up, a sly smile on her lips, muttering, "Ms. Gray has already snagged samples from Red Pharmaceuticals and will land the supply contract from Ironclad Defense Ministry tonight, so she doesn't need to come back. But you two? No way. Go on, there's a surprise waiting for you."
Plot 140.
At Plot 140, construction was in full swing, with hundreds of workers hustling around.
On the site, Jessica was in work clothes, a white hard hat on her head, holding a supply list, checking materials one by one. This was the Henderson Group's biggest order, and she couldn't afford any slip-ups, so she came in person.
Next to Jessica stood a young guy in a custom-made suit, looking all sharp and important, with a watch worth three million bucks on his wrist.
He was holding a huge bouquet of roses.
With a wry smile, he said, "Jessica, here we are again. Can't you give me another shot?"
Behind him were eight bodyguards in suits, keeping a close watch on everything.
Jessica acted like she didn't hear him, continuing to check the materials.
The young man grinned. "I know you're all about your career and don't want to waste time on me. But I, Colin Lawson, can make the whole world stop and wait for you!"
After saying that, he glanced at the bodyguards behind him.
The bodyguards got the hint and immediately climbed onto the steel frame, grabbed a loudspeaker, and shouted, "Everyone on the construction site, listen up. From now on, the site is shut down, and everyone will be paid three days' wages, courtesy of Mr. Lawson!"
Hearing this, all the workers stopped, their eyes lighting up with excitement. Who wouldn't want to get paid for three days without lifting a finger?
Jessica finally snapped, angrily saying, "Colin, what are you doing? Do you know this will delay the project? Let me tell you again, we are never going to happen. I already have a boyfriend!"
The two were college classmates. Colin had been chasing Jessica for four years, and on graduation day, Jessica was ready to give him a chance. But that night, she saw Colin coming out of a hotel with another girl.
Colin smiled. "For you, I can take any loss. It's just pocket change! Jessica, actually, before I came, I did my homework. You've been single all these years. But I still choose to believe you. Now, if you can bring your boyfriend here, I'll back off voluntarily!"
Jessica was fuming. Back then, she believed in love, but Colin shattered all her dreams, making her think no man was worth it.
In the whole world, Jessica hated Colin the most!
But now, it was Fergus!
Jessica was about to come up with another excuse to brush Colin off when she suddenly saw someone walking onto the construction site. Her eyes filled with burning anger, her fists clenched so tight her nails almost dug into her flesh.
That person was none other than Fergus!
Colin noticed her gaze and looked over, seeing Fergus dressed plainly. He asked, "Do you two have a grudge? No problem, I'll make him kneel before you!"
Saying this, he raised his hand, ready to signal the bodyguards to handle it.
"No need!" Jessica suddenly spoke, coldly saying, "He's my boyfriend. No matter how much I hate him, it's an internal matter, and it has nothing to do with you, an outsider!"
Although she hated Fergus the most, they did have a substantial relationship!
Using Fergus as a shield wasn't a bad idea.
She walked towards Fergus, directly linking arms with him, saying, "You still remember to see me? Just because we're having a cold war, someone wants to take advantage. You should handle it!"
Fergus was wondering why the construction site had stopped when Jessica suddenly linked arms with him, leaving him a bit confused.
Colin's face turned grim, but he quickly regained his composure, walking over slowly, not even looking at Fergus, and said with a smile, "Jessica, I know you're trying to anger me, but I'm also very angry. If you had found a decent actor, it would be fine. But finding someone like him, you're degrading yourself!"
Jessica immediately said, "Fergus, he's insulting you! His words and demeanor show disdain for you; he's not taking you seriously!"
Fergus was speechless.
He could see Jessica was using him as a shield.
However, ever since the Twilight Ridge Estate incident, he had a good impression of Jessica. So he decided to help her.
He said calmly, "Hey guy, watch your words. The tongue cuts the throat!"
Colin sneered, looking Fergus up and down, and said playfully, "Trash, do you know who I am?"
"Don't want to know you trash," Fergus replied.
"Then I'll tell you, I am... you insulted me?" Colin realized halfway through, his eyes widening in anger.
Jessica laughed out loud, realizing Fergus didn't just retort to her, but to anyone,. Sometimes, it wasn't so bad.
Seeing Jessica laugh, Colin's face turned even more unpleasant, and he said darkly, "I'll give you a chance. Now, immediately, get out of here, or don't blame me for being rude."
Fergus felt a headache and thought Colin was a fool.
Imitating Colin's tone, he said, "I'll give you a chance too. Now, immediately, get out of here, or don't blame me for being rude!"
"You!" Colin's eyes narrowed into slits, "You guy, you're arrogant. But have you noticed how quiet it is here? That's because with one sentence from me, hundreds of people stopped working. Do you understand my power?"
Fergus suddenly understood, having wondered why the work had stopped. He looked at the foreman and said, "Resume work!"
The foreman quickly directed the workers to resume work.
They couldn't give up their jobs for three days' wages.
Fergus then looked at Colin and said, "You said one sentence to stop the work, but I only said two words to resume it. Do you understand my power?"
Colin was stunned, then angrily said, "I'm the son of the owner of InfiniCure Biotech!"
Fergus blurted out, "I'm your dad."
Jessica laughed again, suddenly feeling that Fergus really liked her. Maybe that night was just a moment of passion?
