Chapter 27 Bought a Hotel
Compared to the guys in prison, a small-time tycoon from Tarynville was nothing.
He was not even good enough for Shadowgate Penitentiary.
"What did you say?"
Sophia was livid. No one had ever called the Johnson family ordinary in Tarynville. She snapped, "Fergus, I've been polite. Don't mistake my patience for weakness. No one in Tarynville talks to me like this!"
Her outburst caught everyone's attention.
"Who's this guy?"
"Maybe a newbie!"
"He dares to mess with Sophia? Is he nuts?"
Fergus thought it over and decided arguing was pointless. He said calmly, "We don't get along, so let's just part ways. Give me the stuff, and we're done."
"No way!"
Sophia was even more annoyed by his calmness. No one had ever talked to her like that.
She exploded, "Explain yourself! Why this attitude? What did I do? If you don't explain, you get nothing!"
He was the one who called off the engagement.
At the racetrack, she had warned him not to gamble for his own good.
At last night's meeting, she was looking out for him, asking him to apologize.
The only reason he was here was pure luck. If he hadn't partnered with Violet, Tyler would have crushed him.
Fergus casually said, "You didn't do anything wrong. I just don't like the way you talk..."
Before he could finish, a voice came.
"That's called building a personal image!"
A young man in a suit walked over, concerned. "Sophia, don't get mad at this petty guy. His existence is just to annoy people. If you take him seriously, you'll lose!"
Sophia ignored him, still fuming.
The young man didn't mind, used to Sophia's coldness. He looked at Fergus condescendingly and said, "Fergus, Ms. Gray's partner, huh? You must feel pretty invincible to upset Sophia in Tarynville Hotel."
"Have you thought about how you're going to leave?"
"He's Fergus? Ms. Gray's partner? Who's this guy?"
"Keep it down. That's Max Ortiz, heir of Tarynville Hotel and a big fan of Sophia!"
"No wonder he dares to say how Fergus should leave. He's the Boss."
The diners started whispering, watching the scene.
Fergus sneered. "What?"
Max raised his wrist and said smugly, "Two years ago, someone disrespected Sophia here. I pulled out his teeth one by one and made him crawl out."
"Then I hung a sign at the entrance with his name and 'No Idiots Allowed!'"
"It stayed up for a month. He lost his teeth and his dignity!"
The diners gasped. "That's harsh."
"So, you're going to break my teeth?" Fergus laughed.
Max mocked, "Not quite. You're lucky to be Ms. Gray's partner, and I respect her. But I can put up a sign saying, 'Fergus and Idiots Not Allowed.' Imagine what Ms. Gray would think if she saw that?"
"If she knows her partner can't even enter Tarynville's biggest hotel, how can you stay her partner?"
"If she fires you, what then?"
Max liked winning without a fight. Seeing his opponents pale and sweat from his threats gave him a sense of control.
"No need!"
Sophia suddenly spoke up, knowing Max could really do it. If the sign went up, Fergus was done for.
Sophia thought, 'Violet wouldn't want someone causing trouble everywhere. If she knows he is clashing with the Johnson family in Tarynville, she will drop him immediately.'
Even though she was mad at Fergus, losing his position would be a disaster, and they weren't there yet.
She added, "Max, this isn't your business. I'll handle it."
Max saw a chance to show off. He smiled, "Sophia, it's fine. Leave it to me!"
He turned to Fergus and threatened, "Last chance. Apologize to Sophia now. Don't think I'm joking."
"In Tarynville Hotel, I'm the boss. My word is law!"
He leaned in aggressively.
Sophia frowned, knowing Max was serious. The more she tried to intervene, the worse it would get.
The diners were excited, waiting for the drama.
Fergus didn't take the threat seriously and smiled. "You're the big boss? What about your dad? Is he the old boss?"
"You really are the outstanding heir of the Ortiz family."
The restaurant fell silent for a few seconds, then erupted in laughter.
"What did you say!"
Max was furious. He never expected Fergus to insult him. He snarled, "A nobody living off Ms. Gray, calling himself a partner. You're just a scumbag, and you dare insult me?"
"Fine, if you want to die, don't blame me!"
"Someone, put up the sign immediately!"
"Make sure he can never enter again!"
Sophia quickly stood up, anxious. "Max, don't be impulsive. There's still room for negotiation. Fergus, apologize now!"
"This is Tarynville's biggest hotel. High-end events are held here. If you're banned, your company will suffer, and Ms. Gray will never forgive you."
Fergus thought for a moment. Since this place was high-end and he needed it for work, he couldn't afford to be banned.
He took out his phone and called Xavier. "No matter what it takes, buy Tarynville Hotel within ten minutes. For the money, call the number I gave you, and he'll provide it!"
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone looked at Fergus like he was a fool.
Even the waiters' expressions changed.
Although Tarynville Hotel's assets weren't as valuable as the Johnson family or the newly rich Logan Group, it was still Tarynville's most luxurious hotel, valued at over $300 million.
The main point was that it was a stable moneymaker, and the Ortiz family would never sell it!
Fergus wanting to buy it in ten minutes was pure fantasy.
Max laughed in anger, mocking, "I've seen many upstarts, but you're the most arrogant. Fine, I'll wait here for ten minutes to see how you buy it!"
Sophia looked at Fergus in disappointment, not bothering to persuade him anymore. She used to think his sharp tongue was about character, but now it seemed he was just not right in the head.
Sophia thought, 'Does he think Ms. Gray's money comes easily? Buying a hotel just like that? This is reality, not a story!'
"He's so damn arrogant."
"I think Ms. Gray will kick him out immediately."
"Who does he think he is? Buying Tarynville Hotel? If he buys it, I'll crawl out on my knees!"
The people around started whispering.
Max looked at his watch and teased, "There's one minute left. You better hurry. Should I give you an extra thirty seconds? Haha!"
Just as he finished speaking, the elevator doors opened, and a group of middle-aged men in suits rushed in. They were the hotel's legal team. They ran up to Fergus and respectfully said, "Mr. Yost, here is the acquisition contract. Please review it."
In an instant, the entire room fell silent!
