Chapter 111 Eat the Food Like a Dog
After Fergus left the Treasure Pavilion, he headed straight back to Tarynville.
It wasn't too far, just about an hour's drive. He didn't go back to Sky Palace because it was late, and Violet's amnesia might stir up some unnecessary drama.
He figured he could handle it the next day.
Fergus went back to Serenity Springs Resort. Even though everyone thought Violet had kicked him out, no one could stop him from staying in the Resort since he had actually bought the place himself.
He asked for a presidential suite.
Gotta admit, the place was super fancy. It was a whopping 2,100 square feet, and the bathtub alone was 75 square feet with pure gold faucets.
"People out here might be a bit basic, but they sure know how to live it up," Fergus muttered to himself as he soaked in the tub. "Still, I miss the waterfall in the mountains."
As nice as this place was, it felt cramped. The lake under the mountain waterfall was huge, like tens of thousands of square feet, perfect for a good swim.
He wondered, 'Where the heck did my mentor go? Why haven't I heard anything?'
Nights like this always made Fergus feel a bit nostalgic. He'd been learning from his mentor in the mountains for as long as he could remember, over twenty years.
Three years ago, they parted ways for the first time, and it had been three years since then!
Just then, Fergus's phone rang.
"Hello," he answered casually.
"This is Frank!" a strong voice boomed from the other end. "Where are you right now?"
Frank?
Fergus instantly remembered the State Capital official from Violet's meet-and-greet, the one who "accidentally" spilled the beans about Plot 140.
"What do you want?" Fergus shot back.
Frank frowned. It had been ages since anyone talked to him like that!
He replied slowly, "Tomorrow, I'm visiting Ms. Gray in Tarynville. I hope you can come back and clear things up."
Frank had known about Violet and Fergus's situation for a while but kept it under wraps. He'd done some digging but found nothing useful.
So, he needed Fergus to get to the bottom of it.
"What do you mean? Are you trying to pin this on me?" Fergus asked, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
After dealing with Samuel's betrayal, he didn't think much of Frank either.
"Fergus!" Frank's voice was heavy with anger. "Don't give me that attitude. I deal in facts. If it was you, I won't let you off easy. If it wasn't, I'll clear your name!"
The incident happened in Frank's jurisdiction. Without a proper investigation, he couldn't explain it to the Gray Family.
"Alright," Fergus chuckled. If Frank was really about the facts, Fergus could roll with that. "I'm at Serenity Springs Resort, waiting for you anytime."
Frank was taken aback. The word on the street was that Fergus had skipped town. According to his investigation, Fergus had last been seen in Golden Valley City, but now he was back. Maybe Fergus really had nothing to hide?
"Alright, when I get to Tarynville, I'll have someone contact you!"
The next day, Fergus planned to go to Sky Palace and make breakfast for Violet, but since Frank was coming, he decided to wait at the hotel to see what he wanted.
He went downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast.
As soon as Fergus walked in, he heard people whispering.
"Fergus? Why is he still in Tarynville? Didn't they say he ran away?"
"Oh my God, is this guy not afraid of anything? How dare he still be here?"
"Tyler said if Fergus steps into Tarynville, he'll tear him to pieces!"
The customers started buzzing, sneaking glances and whispering.
Everyone knew about Fergus's botched attempt on Violet and his supposed escape. They thought they'd never see him again, but here he was.
Fergus didn't care about their chatter. He found a seat and ordered breakfast.
Soon, a young guy in sportswear came over with breakfast, followed by a girl with a plastic surgery face.
When they reached Fergus, the guy let go of the tray.
It crashed to the ground, shattering, and breakfast spilled everywhere!
The guy smirked, "Mr. Yost, my bad. My hand slipped, and your breakfast hit the floor. If you still want to eat, I can..." He paused.
The girl asked, surprised, "Mr. Ortiz, what can you do?"
The guy cleared his throat and spoke loudly, "I can make Fergus act like a dog, get on the ground, and lick up the food!"
The girl trembled with excitement, "Act like a dog? Awesome, I love that. Mr. Ortiz, make him act like a dog and lick up the food!"
Their words caught everyone's attention. The customers all looked over. When they saw the guy, most recognized him and started chatting.
"It's Max Ortiz, the former heir of Serenity Springs Resort!"
"I heard Fergus used shady methods to take over the hotel. This is gonna be interesting!"
"Max is definitely stirring up trouble."
Everyone was intrigued, putting down their utensils to watch the show.
When people first saw Fergus, they didn't dare say anything, just whispered among themselves. Fergus was known to be a tough fighter. But now that Max was here, things were about to get spicy!
Fergus looked at Max and calmly asked, "You want to trample on my dignity?"
The saying "everyone kicks a man when he's down" was timeless.
"I do want to trample on your dignity. What can you do about it?" Max sneered. "Fergus, you used to have Ms. Gray backing you. Even if you took Tarynville Hotel, I didn't dare do anything. But now, you're nothing. I could squash you like a bug! I'll give you a chance. Get down and eat the food like a dog, or I'll make you crawl out of Serenity Springs Resort like a dog!"
The girl puffed out her chest and sneered, "Didn't you hear Mr. Ortiz? Don't just stand there, start licking. If you don't, there will be consequences!"
Fergus leaned back and sneered, "Alright, I'll give you two choices. Either eat the food like a dog or crawl out like a dog!"
Hearing this, the people around laughed. Did Fergus still think he was Violet's partner? He really dared to say anything! Now, he was just an outcast that everyone wanted to hit.
What right did he have to talk big?
"What did you say? How dare you insult Mr. Ortiz? Believe it or not, I'll tear you apart," the girl said, trying to please Max, defending and flattering him.
Before she could finish, Fergus looked at her coldly.
The girl's voice stopped abruptly. She felt like she was being stared at by a beast, as if saying one more word would get her torn apart. She quickly shut up and hid behind Max, her heart pounding.
Max snorted and sneered, "Fergus, sometimes I really admire your reckless confidence. You still dare to give me choices? Fine, I choose nothing. What can you do about it? Let me tell you, today I will not only make you eat the food like a dog but also make you give up what you took. Tarynville Hotel, one hundred million dollars, sell it to me!"
Fergus shook his head, looked at the restaurant door, and ordered, "Call security up here and watch him eat this plate of food!"
