Chapter 116 You're Asking for It

"Violet," Fergus called out, his heart sinking when he saw her. He couldn't shake the regret, thinking if he hadn't left that night, maybe all this mess could've been avoided.

"Uncle Frank, how do you know him?" Violet asked straight up. Lately, everyone around her had been badmouthing Fergus, making her think he was just a selfish jerk.

Frank knew Violet had lost her memory, but seeing it in person was still a shock. Despite Fergus's tough exterior, he wasn't a bad guy. The Ford Family's success in Tarynville was mostly thanks to him.

Plus, Fergus had cured Frank's long-time illness, so Frank felt he owed him.

Frank sighed, "Seeing you're almost back to normal, I'm relieved. I do feel bad about all this. Let me explain about Fergus."

They all sat down on the sofa.

Fergus stayed quiet, letting Frank do the talking.

Frank started, "Actually, your business partner is..."

But before he could finish, his phone rang.

His secretary handed it over, "It's Thomas Zimmerman!"

Frank was stunned. The call was clearly to stop him from spilling the beans. Thomas had put out a gag order, smearing Fergus and boosting Tyler.

Violet's phone rang too.

She answered, "Hello, Uncle Dane!"

Hearing the name, Frank's heart skipped a beat. Dane was the power behind Thomas and a big shot in the Gray Family, second only to Violet's dad, Declan.

His full name was Dane Gray!

After a few words, Violet handed the phone to Frank, "Uncle Dane wants to talk to you."

Frank took the phone reluctantly and heard Dane's voice, "Frank, didn't expect you at Sky Palace. What a coincidence! We haven't talked in ages. You haven't forgotten me, right?"

Coincidence? Yeah, right. He called on purpose!

Frank forced a smile, "Dane, don't joke. How could I forget you? It's my bad for not keeping in touch. I owe you an apology."

Dane replied with a hint of menace, "No need to apologize. You're the Governor now, not just a secretary. I get you're busy. But don't forget why you're Governor today!"

Frank's face turned serious. This was a clear threat. Even though Declan was above Dane in the hierarchy, if Dane wanted to stir trouble, it could get ugly!

Suppressing his emotions, Frank said, "I understand."

Dane chuckled, "Next time you're in Capital City, drop by the Gray Family. We shouldn't lose touch. Talk later."

After hanging up, Frank handed the phone back, looking pale.

Violet sensed something was off. She asked, "Uncle Frank, what did Uncle Dane say? Is it because of me that you're in trouble?"

She thought Dane was scolding Frank because of her injury.

Frank brushed it off, "No, just some work stuff. Don't worry about it. Even if he did, it's my fault for not doing my job right."

He changed the subject, "I need to take another call."

Taking the phone from his secretary, he stood up and walked out, giving Fergus a look. Fergus got the hint and followed him.

Outside Sky Palace, Frank hung up on Thomas, looking defeated.

"I'm sorry, I can't help with this," he said, feeling the weight of the situation. "I knew I'd face pressure from the Zimmerman family, but this is way more complicated than I thought."

Frank felt a deep sense of guilt, remembering how Fergus had helped him before.

"It's fine," Fergus said with a smile. "Everyone's gotta handle their own fate. I'll take care of the rest."

He'd already pieced together the implications from those calls. He was ready for this. What mattered to him was Frank's willingness to help.

Frank was surprised and a bit moved. In all the time he'd known Fergus, this was the first time he'd heard him speak so gently.

After a moment of thought, Frank said, "If you want my advice, you should leave. The Zimmerman Family, the Shaw Family, and whoever's really behind Ms. Gray's assassination won't let you go. Staying in Tarynville is—"

"No!" Fergus cut him off. "Wherever Violet is, that's where I'll be. The Zimmerman Family and the Shaw Family are just clowns. As for the real culprit, I hope they come again. Even if they don't, once Violet gets her memory back, I'll hunt them down!"

No one could hurt Violet and get away with it.

Frank was furious, glaring at Fergus. He had just started to find Fergus's speech more pleasant, but the next thing Fergus said was so off-putting. "Since you're so stubborn, all I can say is take care of yourself! Tell Ms. Gray I'm leaving!"

Fergus shrugged, not feeling he was being unreasonable. Whether it was Plot 140, the formula, or even Violet, they were all his. Why should he leave?

He turned and walked back into the villa.

"Why are you coming in alone? Where's Frank?" Violet asked, looking nervous and on edge, her phone ready to call for help.

Fergus felt a bit helpless and stood still, smiling. "Governor Frod had some urgent matters and went back to the State Capital. You don't need to be afraid. I've already shown that if I wanted to harm you, I could do it anytime, and no one could stop me."

He continued, "Please, give me a few minutes! Violet, try to remember. Do you really have no memory of me at all?"

Violet seemed to relax a bit and looked at Fergus carefully. He did seem familiar, but she couldn't place him.

Fergus tried to jog her memory. "The first time we met was here. I walked into the villa, and you had just finished your bath and came downstairs. I even mistook you for Ryan Cox's mistress."

Step by step, he tried to help her remember.

Ryan Cox?

Hearing that name, Violet frowned, and a scene flashed in her mind. One day, after a bath, she walked slowly down the stairs and saw someone standing in the living room.

Just as she was about to clearly visualize the person's face in her mind, a sharp pain shot through her head, like it was going to explode.

Seeing this, Fergus rushed over. "Violet!"

But at that moment, a voice came from the door, "Stop!"

Tyler appeared, accompanied by a man in his thirties.

Tyler's eyes flashed with malice as he shouted, "Fergus, you dare to attack Ms. Gray again? You're asking for it! Drag this scumbag out and hack him to pieces. Now!"

As he finished speaking, the glass around Sky Peak shattered. Hidden guards broke through the windows, far more skilled than the previous bodyguards. They surrounded Fergus!

Fergus glared at Tyler, filled with murderous intent. "You're the one asking for it!"
