Chapter 30 Who Dares
The card was all black with gold cloud patterns, giving off a mysterious and luxurious vibe.
"Is that the Supreme Member Card from the Tarynville Hotel?"
"Oh my God. I've heard there are only seven of those, reserved for VIPs. They're all in the State. I can't believe Mr. Shaw has one!"
"This card gets you free dining and a 90% discount on the presidential suite. The Tarynville Hotel must really value the Shaw family!"
People around started buzzing.
Jessica stared, stunned. She'd heard of it but never seen one. With this card, one could get treated like royalty at the hotel!
Tyler felt super proud hearing the chatter. He'd won the card in a bet with Max and hadn't used it until now.
"Do you get what this card means now?"
Tyler mocked, "Fergus, this card isn't just about discounts; it's about recognition. Do you have one? Try getting one?"
Tyler thought, 'If he even tries, the Tarynville Hotel will kick him out.'
As people said, the rest of the cards were all in the state besides his!
Fergus would be totally humiliated.
"No need. Asking for a discount just to eat is embarrassing," Fergus said calmly. "Did your family spend so much on land that you can't afford a meal without this card?"
"If that's the case, I get it. You're poor."
Jessica glanced over, thinking, 'This guy's got a sharp tongue.'
"What did you say!" Tyler was furious. What was a status symbol was being called poor. He thought of using the card's privileges to have security throw Fergus out.
Then he had an idea!
With a smug smile, Tylersaid, "Trying to provoke me? Well, you did it!"
"Mr. Yost, you call me poor. Let's see how rich you are!"
He snapped his fingers at the waiter, "Bring me a bottle of Golden Dawn, and I'll pay!"
Hearing this, the customers got excited.
"Golden Dawn? From Sunshine Vineyards?"
"Yeah, where else would it be from?"
"Everyone knows 1982 Lafite is pricey, but Lafite is only tens of thousands. Golden Dawn goes for $150,000, and it's $200,000 a bottle at the Tarynville Hotel!"
The waiter brought the wine and said nervously, "Mr. Shaw, due to the high price, we need prepayment to prevent dine-and-dash. Please understand."
"No problem!"
Tyler waved grandly and handed over his bank card. "Use this one. No password!"
Then he looked at Fergus. "Calling me poor? I drink $200,000 wine. Can you? You, a poor guy relying on Ms. Gray, earning peanuts, dare you order one?"
"Do you dare?"
"So he's Fergus? Ms. Gray's partner?"
"Yeah, but he's just a worker. He uses Ms. Gray's money and can't afford it!"
"Mr. Shaw spends his own money. Fergus is still poor..."
People whispered, finally figuring out who Fergus was.
Fergus sat across from Tyler, calm and smiling, "Sorry, I'm not poor." He then said to the waiter, "I'll take two bottles of this wine!"
"Swipe the card!"
He tossed his card out.
"Fergus, spending hundreds of thousands on a meal. You're nuts. Ms. Gray will kill you!" Jessica couldn't help but warn him.
'Spending thousands is one thing, but $400,000 on two bottles? How could Ms. Gray tolerate that?' she thought.
"No problem. Just pocket change," Fergus said casually.
"Impressive!" Tyler gave a thumbs up, thinking, 'This guy's fallen into my trap!'
He wanted Fergus to overspend so Ms. Gray would fire him. Then he'd be nothing.
Tyler laughed. "I don't like losing. If someone humiliates me, I go all out. Waiter, bring two more bottles. I want one more than him!"
Fergus immediately said, "Bring four more bottles!"
Tyler raised his neck. "Bring four more bottles!"
Fergus countered, "Five more bottles!"
Tyler quickly said, "Five more bottles!"
They went back and forth, making everyone gasp. "That's a lot of money!"
Jessica tried to stop Fergus, but he wouldn't listen.
"Six more bottles!" Fergus said.
"Six more bottles!" Tyler's excitement grew. Just as he finished, the waiter reminded him his card only had enough for five bottles.
"Five bottles it is!" Tyler didn't feel embarrassed. He clapped playfully. "Mr. Yost, spending $300,000 on a meal, impressive."
"But if Ms. Gray finds out, what will she think? Will she fire you?"
Tyler stared at Fergus intently.
Everyone else watched, waiting for Fergus's embarrassment.
Jessica was furious. "You're too arrogant. I warned you, and you still fell for it. Now how will you explain this to Ms. Gray?"
Jessica thought, 'If he had been cautious, he might have kept his job. But he had to show off. Breaking off the engagement was the right call. An impulsive man isn't reliable!'
"You're right."
Fergus nodded. "No way to explain it. Let's return all the wine. Waiter, please return all the wine!"
"Unopened wine can be returned, right?"
Gasp!
Tyler's smile froze.
Jessica's expression stiffened.
Everyone was dumbfounded.
The waiter's mind was buzzing.
Everyone present thought, 'Does that make sense? He returns all the wine and gets the money back?'
"Fuck!"
Tyler was furious. If Fergus returned the wine, Ms. Gray would have no reason to scold him, ruining Tyler's plan. "Are you chickening out? You can return the wine you bought?"
"I just wanted to prove you're poor. Not gonna drink the wine. Why can't I return them?" Fergus replied.
"You..." Tyler's eyes bulged. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. "You're the poor one!"
"Poor!" Fergus said calmly.
"Stop spending Ms. Gray's money. You're a freeloader!" Tyler shouted.
"Poor!" Fergus replied.
"Don't return it if you have the guts!" Tyler yelled.
"Poor!" Fergus replied.
Tyler was going crazy. No matter what he said, Fergus only repeated that one word. And he had indeed lost the money battle earlier, being utterly defeated.
Suddenly, he remembered the Supreme Member Card's privileges. He pulled out the card and slammed it on the table, going berserk. "Alright, Fergus, you dare insult me. Today, I'll show you what privilege means!"
"I'm a supreme VIP of the hotel. No returns for him!" Tyler said to the waiter.
Fergus casually took out the acquisition contract. "I'm the boss. Who dares?"
