Chapter 13 Wait for Me
Everyone was buzzing about Fergus and thought, 'Why is he with Ms. Gray? Does he really just get out of prison?'
Some folks were smirking, thinking Tyler tried to show off but picked the big shot!
Most were trying to cozy up to Fergus, raising their glasses to him.
"Mr. Yost, I'm sorry," Mr. White said, crawling up from the ground, tears in his eyes.
He'd regret it big time. If he knew, he'd be sucking up to Fergus instead of dissing him.
"Get lost!" Fergus snapped.
Meanwhile, Logan dragged Tyler over to Hayden, fuming. "Hayden, we've known each other forever, and Sophia and Tyler are tight. Why'd you set me up like that?"
Logan thought Fergus was almost Hayden's son-in-law. How could he not know Fergus's real identity? It was all a trap to make Ms. Gray mad and refuse to cooperate.
"If I knew, would I have threatened Fergus?" Hayden regretted it, too. If he knew Fergus knew Violet, he wouldn't have kicked him out and would've set up Sophia and Fergus's marriage right away.
"It was a setup. My loss is bigger!" Logan insisted.
"We really didn't know!" Linda was anxious. She worried Violet might retaliate, especially since Linda had just threatened her.
"But I almost died!" Tyler clenched his fists.
"It was all a coincidence!" Sophia suddenly spoke, glancing at Fergus surrounded by people, then back with a determined look. "Fergus and Violet doesn't know Fergus!"
Everyone looked at Sophia, puzzled.
Sophia stayed calm. "Remember, Fergus defended Violet and let her reveal her identity. He was stunned too when she did!"
The four of them recalled and realized it was true. They'd been too scared to think straight!
"So, he's still a jerk. He probably just bumped into Ms. Gray at the door and got lucky!" Tyler gritted his teeth. If Fergus hadn't met Violet, he'd have been begging for mercy today.
"So it was a misunderstanding." Logan was the first to laugh.
Just then, a group of well-dressed people walked in. Everyone knew they weren't businessmen; they were big shots from the State Capital, including officials and military commanders, with the mayor of Tarynville trailing behind.
They were here to back Violet!
Their presence signaled the official start of the party.
Sure enough, as they took their spots, the lights dimmed, and a spotlight hit the stage. Violet, in an evening gown, walked on, stunning everyone.
In terms of beauty, Violet was on par with Tarynville's top beauty, Sophia.
Sophia glanced at Fergus, who was also stunned, deepening her frown.
Violet stepped up to the mic. "Good evening, everyone. Thanks for taking the time to attend my meeting..."
She gave a brief opening speech, earning thunderous applause.
Violet continued, "I'm here in Tarynville for an investment mission, and I need an excellent, wise, and outstanding partner. I hadn't found one, but just a day ago, I think I found my answer."
"He is..."
