Chapter 42 This is What Carving Really Means
"You dare to take down my sign? You'll kill yourself!"
Nathan almost spat blood from anger. This wasn't just any sign; it was the glory of Treasure Pavilion, the culmination of his decade-long hard work, and a symbol of generational legacy!
And now, it had been destroyed!
"Mr. Yost..." Xavier was terrified. He thought Fergus was just bluffing, but to his surprise, Fergus actually took down the sign. This was going to cause a huge uproar, and Nathan's long-time connections would surely be furious.
Fergus, however, felt no burden at all. This deceitful old man's shady business deserved to be shut down.
He casually said, "Just a quick lesson for you. If you dare to deceive people again, I'll send you to meet Hades. Take care of yourself."
With that, he prepared to leave.
His jade couldn't possibly be carved in such a shady shop.
"Stop right there!"
Nathan was seething with rage. "You took down my sign, humiliate me, and now you want to leave?"
"Today, either one of us will die!"
As he spoke, Nathan took out his phone to call for help.
"Nathan..." Xavier tried to persuade him.
"Get lost!" Nathan wouldn't listen and continued making calls. He was going to use all his connections to crush Fergus.
People around them started mocking.
"Who let him act so arrogant? I knew this would happen. Arrogance always leads to trouble!"
"Nathan has been famous for decades. It's said he has connections with the most mysterious Twilight Ridge Estate in Tarynville. If Twilight Ridge Estate wants him dead, it would be done in an instant!"
"He'll be begging for mercy soon."
Fergus ignored the surrounding chatter. Since they wanted to play, he'd join. He looked down at Mary, helped her up, and asked, "Is your husband suffering from a stroke?"
He guessed this from the smell of the medicine on her, but he needed to confirm.
Mary nodded. "Yes, Mr. Yost. Am I causing you trouble? I..."
"It's a minor issue."
He smiled faintly, "Go buy some tPA and aspirin; these can effectively alleviate his symptoms. Go get the medicine. As for the future medical expenses, you can find Mr. Quinn. We'll cover all the costs."
When he he said this, people around them started mocking again. "Is Fergus pretending to be a doctor?"
"A stroke is a global medical challenge. Unless you're a millionaire, an average person can't afford the full treatment. What is Fergus talking about?"
"What a joke!"
Mary was stunned for a moment, then said, "Mr. Yost, I remember the medicines, but... I can't leave now. You're in this trouble because of me. If I leave, what kind of person would I be?"
"I'm willing to take responsibility with my life!"
Fergus was moved. He nodded and said no more.
Kyle sneered coldly and thought, 'Leaving? Not so easy. You would all die together.'
At this moment, a voice came from the door. "Fergus, do you know how much trouble you've caused?"
Everyone turned their heads.
Fergus also looked over. It was Sarah speaking, and in front of her was Violet!
He thought, 'Why is she here?'
Sarah walked up to Fergus angrily. "If I were you, I'd bash my head in to avoid causing Ms. Gray any more trouble!"
"Shut up!"
Violet's face was very grim. She had just received many calls, all wanting to give Fergus a lesson, which she had to fend off.
Seeing the sign on the ground, she felt very troubled.
She took a few steps forward, forced a smile, and said, "You must be Nathan. I've heard a lot about you. About today's incident..."
Nathan interrupted coldly, "Ms. Gray, say no more. This sign is my life. I have only one demand: he must die. If you use your influence, I'll fight to the death!"
His words left Violet speechless. Taking down the sign was indeed a serious offense; worth fighting to the death over. Moreover, Nathan had many friends who all wanted Fergus dead!
But since Fergus was hers, she naturally had to protect him.
She was about to respond when Fergus suddenly said, "Ms. Gray, I'll handle this myself."
He then looked at Nathan and smiled faintly, "Old bastard, if you want to fight to the death, come on. I'm right here. Don't waste time."
Since Nathan was unreasonable, he saw no need to be reasonable either.
"Fergus!" Violet immediately spoke up sternly, "Don't say more. Taking down the sign not only ruined Nathan's reputation but also destroyed his work, angering many people. Let me handle this!"
Nathan's work used to be worth two million dollars. With the sign gone, it was only worth three hundred thousand. That was the power of a brand. Fergus taking down the sign devalued all the jade pieces owned by collectors, naturally causing widespread anger.
Fergus smiled. "I'm not the type to hide behind a woman. Besides, his work is all junk. It's no loss if it's destroyed!"
When he said this, the surrounding crowd started cursing even louder. Nathan was the most famous sculptor in Tarynville, renowned even nationally. No one had ever dared to call his work junk.
"You..." Violet was speechless.
"Ms. Gray, I suggest you fire him immediately. This shameless person is just using your reputation to act recklessly!" Kyle quickly criticized.
"I've seen it all today. You dare call my work junk? Then show me what good work is!" Nathan was breathing heavily, agitated. "If you can show me something better, proving my work is junk, I won't hold you accountable!"
In the whole country, only a few people were better sculptors than him.
"Show it!"
"Hurry up and show it!"
Fergus didn't want to show off initially, but he didn't want to leave Violet in a difficult position any longer. "No problem, I'll show you something impressive today!"
With that, he took out a piece of jade from his pocket.
He raised his hand. "Bring me a carving knife!"
The place fell silent.
Then, everyone burst into laughter. "What is he doing? Carving on the spot?"
"Is this guy crazy? He wants to compete with Nathan in carving?"
"I don't know why Ms. Gray choose him!"
Violet's face turned red, while Sarah was so angry she was grinding her teeth. 'Fergus must've been beaten in prison until he turned stupid, no?' she thought.
Kyle sneered, "You dare carve in front of Mr. Smith? It takes five years to learn the basics, eight years to master, and twelve years to be considered a professional. Do you even know how?"
"How dare you make a fool of yourself?"
Fergus said calmly, "Are you bringing it or not?"
"Fergus!" Violet called out again, biting her lip. If worse came to worst, she would have to take the blame herself.
"Give it to him!"
Nathan said coldly, "I want to see what he can carve that makes him dare call my work junk!"
At Nathan's command, a carving knife was brought over.
"Be careful not to cut yourself!"
The crowd laughed again.
Fergus couldn't be bothered to respond. Amidst the mocking gazes, he turned the jade in one hand and moved his fingers swiftly with the other, letting stone chips fall continuously.
The crowd was shocked to see that the material was actually emerald!
What a pity; it was being ruined in his hands!
The surrounding curses grew louder.
In the blink of an eye, half an hour had passed.
The jade in Fergus's hand had turned into a round ball. He nodded in satisfaction, held it up, and said calmly, "Open your eyes and take a good look. This is carving!"
