Chapter 113- His Protective Best Friend
“ And don't even think that's the only shocking thing,”
“ There's more?!” she asked as she moved closer to me,
" Miss Miller asked me to arrange a meeting with Claudia,” I said,
" You're joking right?” She asked and I shook my head,
" How can I joke with something like that Vera? After telling her I already talked to her she still insists on seeing her and she wants it to be before our flight tomorrow,”.
" Oh shit, which means you have to look for a way to speak to Claudia tonight,” she said with disgust,
" That's the fucking thing, why the hell is this happening to me Vera? I just want a normal life and everytime things just keeps going south,” I said with a sigh as I ran my fingers through my hair,
“ What are we going to do?" She asked,
“ I don't know, I'm not thinking right now," I said as I looked at her before turning away as I placed my head in my hands.
“ I think I know what we should do?" Vera said,
“ What?" I asked as I turned to her waiting for her to speak,
" Do you have any means of reaching her?” She asked,
" She called me some days ago and I block the number,” I said,
" She called you and you didn't tell me?” She asked as she looked at me with a frown,
" I wanted to, it just slipped my mind and it wasn't important,” I said as I brought out my phone from my pocket,
" So you're saying I should call her?" I asked,
“ Yes, we'll meet her together," she said and I nodded before I unblocked the number Claudia used in calling me then I dialed the number. It rang several times before she finally pick up,
“ Hardin, you called," she said sounding relieved,
“ Let's meet," I said, going straight to the point,
“ You want us to meet?" she asked,
" At least you don't have hearing problems,” I said and Vera chuckled,
" Meet me at the twenty four hour cafe at the grand square,” I said and without waiting for a reply I ended the call.
She'll come.
“ Do you think she'll come?” Vera asked,
" Well, we have to go to find out,” I said as I removed my suit jacket deciding to go with just the shirt I was wearing,
" Let's go," I said as she removed her glasses and stood up then we both walked out of the house,
“ I'll drive," Vera said and I turned to her with a glare,
“ Not gonna happen," I said as I opened the driver's side door and got in and she entered the passenger's side with a pout,
I started the car and drove out of the garage heading to the cafe.
When we got to the cafe I parked the car as we both stepped out of the car and shut the door.
“ Are you sure she'll come?" Vera asked,
“ Let's wait and see," I said,
“ I'll wait outside here, you go in first," she said,
“ No, I can't leave you out here it's late," I said and she just rolled her eyes waving me off,
“ Go, I'll be here," she said,
“ Are you sure?" I asked,
“ Yeah, go ahead," she said and I nodded before I walked into the cafe and looked around. There were about two or three people sitting around but I didn't see any sign of Claudia.
I walked to a chair and sat down as I patiently waited,
After about ten minutes of waiting I finally felt a presence behind me and I turned to see Claudia looking at me with a smile.
What did she think this was? A date?
I couldn't help but notice the way she tied her hair up just the way I liked.
“ Have a seat,” I said as I grudgingly stood up and pulled out a chair for her to seat and she sat down muttering a ‘thank you’
“ I was so happy when you called me, you have no idea," she said and I just looked at her with a raised brow,
" Whatever you're thinking, I want you to to wash it out of your head," I said and immediately her smile dropped,
“ Oh," she mumbled as she looked down in sadness and I couldn't help but think back to when we were at the orphanage. She'd look down like this when she was sad.
I came here to talk to her and not to let her manipulate me. My friends weren't wrong and I knew I was always weak when it comes to her.
It's a facade that I can only hold for a little period of time. And now that I was seeing her look sad I wanted to protect her, I wanted to reach out to her.
“ Oh look who it is," I suddenly heard Vera's voice, and I couldn't help but breathe in relief.

VERA'S POV
I couldn't help but kick into protective best friend mood after all the rubbish I've been watching,
I've been watching them since she walked into the cafe and I knew that witch was going to try to manipulate my friend, she always has and I just don't know what he sees in her.
“ Oh Vera, you're here,” she said in a sweet tone completely different from our interaction the last time she met with me,
" Of course, I heard there was a witch in town and I'm just making sure my best friend doesn't get bewitched,”
" Vera,” Hardin cautioned but I just rolled my eyes before I sat down beside him,
" We're not here to have friendly conversations with you or chitchat, so the thing is our boss wants to talk to you tomorrow and it's important,” I said as she looked at me trying to look as innocent as possible and it irked me.
“ Listen up, I do not want you to go there acting like you know Hardin because you don't," I said,
“ But I do," she said and I scoffed,
“ Oh really? You know him as what? Your friend or the man you abandoned because he didn't have any money?” I asked as I glared at her,
" Vera, calm down I've got this,” Hardin said as he took my hand and dropped a kiss before dropping it and then he turned to Claudia,
" I need you to meet with my boss tomorrow, she'd like to talk to you about the jewelry you wore,” Hardin said,
“ Why?” she asked, God, I just hate the way she tries to look innocent in front of Hardin,
“ There are a few things I can't disclose to you but you're not in trouble, she just need to talk to you," He said,
“ So I just have to answer her questions?" she asked and he nodded,
" Alright, for you I'll do it,” she said,
" Hey listen, stop acting like you're saving his life, it's just a simple thing, there's nothing special there, so stop… What, Hardin?! Leave me alone to say my mind,” I snapped when Hardin squeezed my leg trying to stop me.
“ It's just…”
" Claudia! —” I stopped when I heard a man's voice call as the man walked to us and then without warning he held Claudia's hand and forcefully made her stand.
“ Time's up," he said and then without another word from him he started dragging her out of the cafe and I just watched in shock.
