Chapter 78- In The Elevator

HARDIN'S POV

“ What is happening? Say something!" My boss yelled in fear as she looked around the elevator like we were suddenly not the only people in it.

“ I think the elevator just stopped but please you need to calm down so I can call for help," I said as she turned to me shaking her head. She looked like she was about to have a panic attack.

“ No, I can't stay calm, Hardin, I can't, I don't think…” she stopped as she slowly slid down to the elevator floor.

“ Miss Miller please it will be alright, I'll just call for help and we'll be out of here in no time,” I said as I brought out my phone and tried calling security but the problem was they couldn't be reached because there was no reception in the fucking elevator.

Just great.

“ What? Why do you look like that Hardin?’ My boss asked as she looked up at me.

" Everything is going to be fine,” I said as I slowly went down to where she was on the floor.

“ You always act like some superhero Hardin, don't you ever get scared of dying?’ She asked and I couldn't help but chuckle. She thought I was acting like a superhero because I wasn't panicking? She was doing enough panicking for the both of us.

" That's because I know nothing is going to happen,” I said as I stretched out my hand to her as she placed hers in mine and then we slowly stood up.

She took in deep breaths trying to calm her raging nerves.

“ Have you been able to call anyone?" She asked and I shook my head truthfully.

“ There's no service in here," I said as she searched through her bag and then brought out her phone and handed it to me.

“ Try mine, hopefully it works," she said as she opened her phone and handed it to me and I dialed security but it was the same thing.

Fuck, how do I tell her to calm down when I was finding it so hard to calm down myself?

At least someone should know that our elevator got stuck and come help us or something, is there no security here? The CCTV camera should show that people got in the elevator and were taking so long to get down, they should be able to figure out that something wasn't right.

“ It's not working too?" She asked and I shook my head.

“ Oh God, no, please, at least someone should know that something is wrong, we're going to run out of air and without air we're going to die Hardin, why do I have to always face an unfortunate situation?" She asked as she started to shake.

What the heck? How am I supposed to deal with this while trying to keep myself calm?

" Look Miss Miller, please just be positive okay, try taking deep breaths to distract your mind from what is happening now, think of something, close your eyes, think of something that makes you happy, please,” I said as I moved closer to her.

“ Okay, okay, happy thoughts, I'm going to think happy thoughts, only happy thoughts," she said as she closed her eyes nodding to herself like she was trying to convince herself that whatever it is she was thinking of was the reality.

“ There, just keep thinking happy thoughts," I said as I sent a message hoping that it would be miraculously delivered and then I kept calling from both my phone and hers.

Even after several tries there was still no reception and it didn't look like anyone was yet to notice that we weren't coming down. How fucked up can things get?

The elevator made another sound as it shook and my boss screamed in fear and then without warning she wrapped her arms around me like her life depended on it.

At the moment it felt that way.

“ Shhh, we're going to be just fine," I said as I ran my fingers through her hair but it didn't look like she was calming down as her shaking increased. This was all because of fear.

“ Look at me, look at me," I said but she shook her head refusing to look at me and then when I tried to pull away but she only held me tighter.

“ I'm not going anywhere okay," I said and she nodded but still she refused to look at me.

“ I don't do so well with enclosed spaces, they just don't do me well, I don't know why, but I just don't like it," she said as her voice broke like she was going to cry.

“ We're going to be out of here in no time there is nothing for you to be scared of," I said.

“ But we're stuck in this damn elevator and we can't reach people from outside, how can you be so calm? I literally feel like this elevator is closing with me in it, the only thing keeping me sane right now is because you're here with me,” she said as she finally pulled from me a little to look into my eyes.

Vulnerability. That was what I saw there, she was showing me the unfiltered side if her.

" Thank you for being here for me Hardin, thank you,” she whispered.

Suddenly she staggered like she was going to pass out but I steadied her as I noticed that she had begun to lose touch with reality.

“ Miss Miller, Ariana, stay with me,” I said as I shook her shoulders but she only mumbled incoherent words.

I gently sat her down on the elevator floor as I rested her back on the elevator wall.

“ Miss Miller, stay with me, okay please don't close your eyes," I said as I shook her cheeks but she only looked at me with half closed, half opened eyes.

“ I just want to sleep,” she whispered as she looked at me with a smile.

“ No, you have to stay awake, do you hear me, look at me," I said as her breath started to come out in pants.

“ I am, I'm looking at you, I've been looking at you for quite a long time," she said but nothing she was saying was making sense.

“ Stay awake please," her eyes were about to close at the same moment a thought came to my mind to keep her awake.

I didn't think it through, I just went ahead with the thought and the next thing I'm doing, I have my lips pressed against my boss's lips.

For the second time.
