Chapter 164- Hardin and Vera's Fight
ARIANA'S POV
“ Hardin!" Vera called in shock as Hardin jerked up from bed, looking around in confusion. His eyes met with mine before he quickly jumped out of bed.
I quickly left because I didn't want to pry in his personal life, what he does and who he sleeps with wasn't my concern then why was there a certain ache in my heart.
“ Hardin, I warned you, I knew that this lying snake would be able to manipulate you, just last night and you already wake up in her bed, I thought you were smarter than this, you fucking had sex with this woman, what next? She's going to tell you she's pregnant with your child and then trap you?!” Vera asked in anger, I could tell that there was going to be a fight and I saw it as my cue to leave but Hardin's voice stopped me, I was curious to know what he had to say.
“ I'm not a child Vera, I can very well take care of myself, why are you getting so pissed about this?” He asked and my former plan of running away got aborted.
“ Yes, I know you're not a child but you're acting like one right now, you know this woman and you got into her bed are you stupid Hardin? Are you not seeing the signs?! She's sent back to torment your life, just when you were almost shot that night and then I and Ronny received a strange note and boom she's back in our lives, do you fucking think it's a coincidence?!" she shouted,
“ Vera, don't fucking raise your voice at me!" Hardin said in anger, fire and fire isn't good and I knew that I had to intervene.
“ I will raise my voice at you anyhow I want as long as you're being stupid, what's wrong with you?"
“ Vera, can we talk?" I whispered as she turned to me with angry teary eyes, she definitely loved her best friend very much.
She looked at Hardin and the woman he was with before she shook her head and walked away. I didn't even bother looking at him, I just followed Vera.
We walked out of the house as I opened my car door and she got into the passenger's seat and I got into the driver's seat as I started the car and drove away.
The car was silent so I decided to break the silence.
“ Do you wanna talk about it?” I asked,
" I hate her, I hate that woman so much. She was Hardin's first love I still feel like she's still his first and only love because she must have bewitched him,” she said as she sniffed and I quietly listened,
“ We all grew up in the orphanage and Hardin was so in love with her, he'd do anything to make her happy, when I mean anything I mean anything even if it means starving himself just so she has something to eat when she's hungry and there's nothing to eat. She was his world but to her Hardin was nothing more than a toy for her to use and when she was tired of him, she left, he was shattered and broken, beat himself up for something that wasn't his fault until he started learning to live without her, he tried with our help, his family, until he finally started to heal and now she's back and he's accepting her life she never left, what would happen if she decides to leave again?”
I would be here for him, I thought to myself but didn't say it out loud.
“ Listen Vera, Hardin is a grown ass man and he can make decisions for himself, that's why he's angry,” I said as I stopped the car by the side of the road,
" But he's not thinking, I'm saying this because I was there to see how broken he was and I don't want to see it again,” she said with a sigh,
“It will be fine, you both just need to chill, your heads need to calm down," I said and she nodded,
“ You like him don't you?” she suddenly asked as she turned to me and I felt like a deer caught in the headlights,
“ What nonsense are you talking about?" I asked, trying to cover it with a laugh but she shook her head looking so serious.
“ There's something in your eyes that tells me you like him," she said and I just shrugged before I started the car and hit the road again,
“ Whatever you're seeing is deceiving you,” I said and she didn't push further, of which I was grateful.
I stopped the car in front of the company and she turned to me with a smile.
“Thank you for the ride boss," she said and I nodded before she opened the door and stepped out.
I stepped out too as I handed the key to the valet to park the car.
I entered the building and walked to the elevator then I got in.
I just couldn't help but laugh at my situation. What did I expect? That because we were sleeping together he'll not want to touch other women? Especially the woman who everyone sees as his first love?
I've really been living in an unrealistic world and I needed to wake up.
The elevator door opened and I stepped out as I walked to my office. I hope Hardin knew that he couldn't mix personal life with work. We had a lot of things to take care of so I needed him here.
I sat down on my chair as I got settled in.
I turned on my computer as I tried to get busy with work but my mind wouldn't stop thinking of what I saw.
He's not my boyfriend, why was I feeling like I caught him cheating. I couldn't help but laugh. Something was definitely wrong with me.
My phone started ringing and I turned to see it was a call from Sasha so I composed myself before I picked the call.
“ Sasha," I called,
" It's happening again,” I heard Sasha whisper.
" What is it?” I asked,
Sasha’s voice tightened as she repeated,...“It’s happening again—just like last time, only worse.” My blood ran cold as I realized what she was talking about. “You need to check it. Now,”she said. I felt my heart skip a beat and I knew that whatever I was about to check wouldn't be good and I wasn't ready for it.
